This suddenly changed. Rome, a city that expanded to become one of the largest empires in the world, began to slowly disintegrate in the 5th century as a result of its problems. The Roman Empire fell because of three main reasons which are unstable leadership, catastrophic events, and weak government issues. One of the main reasons Rome fell was due to unstable leadership.

The fall of Rome was mainly because of plagues wiping out most of the population. The fall of the Han dynasty began from decentralized rule. However, outside invasions had an effect on the fall of both classical civilizations. Series of plagues began to hit the Rome Empire by the 2nd century. These plagues lowered the population drastically.

Given these reasons, it can be concluded of how Rome fell. Rome was too big and when plagues were brought over and were spread, it decreased the population and hassled the economic life because they didn’t have the resources to pay back the Germanic soldiers. When social and military issues came into play, it led to great cities being lost. Lastly, the reason the contributed the most to the fall of Rome was the weak or selfish emperors and the state being ruined because the government was not following the spirit of past

Rome’s military had the responsibility of protecting the empire from invaders. However, invasions happened and the map in document C shows the pathing of the invaders. The Vandals, Ostrogoths, and Huns were invaders that came from Asia that the Roman military couldn't defend against. Rome’s military definitely tried to defend against the invaders but they kept getting defeated. The reason why they kept getting defeated was that they didn’t train with armor and some soldiers ran away during a battle in fear that they would die as shown in document B, which is an excerpt from Concerning Military Matters.

The fall of the roman empire was due to Rome’s dependence on it’s military and it’s expansion, which was stalled by invaders, rebellion, and passiveness brought on by christianity. The larger part of Rome’s economy relied on income brought in by the Roman military from expanding the empire. Because the aristocracy got wealthier through plunder, they were able to buy up land owned by poorer private farmers and use free slave labor of barbaric peoples, and due to this, there were few other ways of income going into the Roman state besides plunder. I agree that Rome was not overthrown by external enemies but was defeated by its own internal problems. The fall of Rome was mainly due to internal problems because the Romans were only fulfilling their own needs, the law were not reliable and the struggle with the right emperor led to the end of Rome. These internal problems made the empire unstable and led to external problems. For example, in document C, Marcellinus, a Roman soldier criticizes the Romans for being selfish and only worrying about themselves.

They were constantly at war with themselves, or to expand the empire. The empire was running out of soldiers to fight, so they made the barbarians they conquered help them fight (Ltd.) With all the fighting, they were barely given any training, which made it harder to fight. The final push of the fall of Rome was because of the invasion of the Huns and the Germans. Another military factor was the soldier's attitude. They weren’t loyal to the Roman Empire, which made it hard to get them to fight for their country.

In closing, there are five factors that led to the decline of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire. Many different things caused the fall. There is no one answer to why it happened. It is very probable, however that the fall was inevitable. It was going to happen because the society was going to grow out of the republic.
