Introduction Over the course of this paper, I will be discussing Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s accomplishments, management skills and ability to lead a nation through a crisis as the 32nd president of the United States of America. FDR won four elections and served longer than any US president in history. When elected first in 1932, America was in the midst of the great depression, which started in 1929 after the stock market crashed, which has been attributed to the GOP. The idea was thought of by some to be an outrageous proposal, but is now widely accepted by both liberals and conservatives everywhere. Similar to minimum wage, social security was also thought of as a radial form of collectivism back when it was established. (“Franklin D. Roosevelt” 2016) Social security works by adding a tax on everybody's pay, that is kept track of so when they retire, it can be paid back to them by the government. It is a way of guaranteeing a person saves for retirement. However social security is in need of reform to revamp its effectiveness and prevent it from running out of funds. I believe this can most effectively be done by raising the cap of how much of an individual's income is contributed to their social security and by raising the age of retirement to accommodate the current and ever elongating average life expectancy. In 1901 the most amazing thing that ever happened to America took place. On October 27, 1858 Theodore Roosevelt was inaugurated. Unfortunately, this did not occur on the best of terms. He was vice president to William McKinley. He was fatally shot a month before.
The idea was that people would contribute to funds as an insurance in hopes to provide economical security during old age or unemployment due to a disability. Roosevelt also wanted to help people plan for the future but also make sure that the social security act would not have negative effects on the economy despite congresses stance that an individual should be responsible for their own future without the help of the government.
Franklin D. Roosevelt, the 32nd President of the United States created a series of programs during his terms as President in order to aid the country. The United States at the time was experiencing the Great Depression. At this time in American history the US was facing the “deepest and longest-lasting economic downturn in the history of the Western industrialized world”(History.com Staff, 2016). The New Deal was FDR’s series of programs created to aid the country. With this New Deal he planned to provide Reform, Relief, and Recovery to the country during the Great Depression.

All of his programs were included in the New Deal. The New Deal was created by President Roosevelt to get America out of the depression. One program he organized was the CCC, which stood for Civilian Conservation Corps. This program provided jobs for young men aged 18-25. The work they did in the CCC was mainly a variety of different conservation projects like planting trees, annihilating stream pollution, creating fish and bird sanctuaries, and many more (Doc B).

(Civilian Conservation Corp.), the A.A.A. (Agriculture Adjustment Administration), And the W.P.A. (Work Progress Administration), provided jobs to thousands of unemployed Americans. Some of these New Deal programs still exist today such as the F.D.I.C. (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation), the F.H.A. (Federal Housing Authority), and the T.V.A. (Tennessee Valley Authority). The FDIC protects the American people from any money losses because of the bank’s failures. FDR established the Social Security to provide aid for the elderly, the unemployed, and children. According to Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, it states, “Social Security remains one of the nation’s most successful, effective, and popular programs.” During Roosevelt's presidency he also advocated for worker reforms. Worker reforms such as better working conditions, better wages, and better working hours.

This brought the global affairs of the country right into the living room of the American home. The transformed the lives of many Americans. On April 13, 1945 President Roosevelt died bringing a great sadness over the nation.
