First Continental Congress Essay

Those two groups were the Sons of Liberty and The daughters of Liberty. The Sons of Liberty were a groups of citizens and merchants that began to strike in order to get the resignation of the official stamp distributors. Much like the Sons of Liberty, The Daughters of Liberty set forth a boycott of British items such as clothes and food, the British calls for order in all colonies versus American demands for liberty. Because of these events the colonies called for a continental congress that would speak on behalf of all the colonies. The First Continental Congress meeting took place in Philadelphia on September 1, 1774.

The American Revolutionary War was a war fought from 1775-1783, also known as the American War of Independence, between the Kingdom of Great Britain and the thirteen colonies. The colonies wanted independence and free from British rule. In order to gain their independence the colonies had to fight for it.

The American Revolution started in 1775 and lasted until 1783. It was fought over American Independence from the British empire but in the end the colonists persevered and won. At first the British dominated winning many battles and starting the colonists off on a bad foot, with many casualties. The colonists were determined to succeed and soon they won their first battle, the battle of Charleston. Soon after they won other battles including, the battle of Trenton, Princeton, and Saratoga.

In September 5, 1774, 54 delegates gathered at the first Continental Congress at Carpenter’s Hall in Philadelphia. They were extremely displeased by the Intolerable Acts. Among the delegates were radicals John Adams, Patrick Henry, and George Washington, a moderate representing his ideas; they wanted peace in the colonies, yet expected violence that came. The Congress ended with 4 agreements, one of them concluded that if one colony was attacked, then it was an act of violence on all of them. Therefore colonies then needed to be protected if the British refused their declaration to colonial rights and decided to harm them.

Analyzing the Documents On the day of November 15, 1777, the Articles of Confederation was created, a few years later on March 1, 1781, the Articles of Confederation was ratified. The Articles of Confederation, which used to be called the Articles of Confederation and Perpetual union served as the first constitution of the United States. The articles were a list of agreements the thirteen colonies could follow to become a unified nation. Unfortunately, the Articles of Confederation failed, because the government were too weak, some efforts were put in to try to strengthen the government but it failed.

It was made over the issues of the blockade and the Intolerable Acts penalizing the Province of Massachusetts. George Washington was among many of the delegates at the meeting. While the colonies had the same idea of colonial rights, they were split between those who wanted legislative equality with Britain and those who wanted to break off from Britain. On October 26, 1774, the First Continental Congress came to a close, but agreed to continue in May 1775.

In the late 1770s the Thirteen Colonies of Britain wanted to separate and form their own nation. On July 4, 1776 they signed a declaration this was the Declaration of Independence declaring these colonies a new independent nation. When the shot was fired at Lexington it was heard around the world which started the American Revolution. Although some critics argue that the revolution had meager affects, the war actually revolutionized The United States of America which is evident by the greater equality for the social classes, the increase in equality for the minorities, and the creation of a republic.

A year after America declared independence on July 4, 1776 congress had drafted the Articles on March 1, 1781 they ratified America’s first written constitution, The Articles of Confederation. The Confederation was still facing economic, political, and diplomatic problems. A group of men called the Nationalist decided to step in. They believed in stronger government to protect America’s interest and decided to meet in George Washington home back in Philadelphia.

Few of its members then could have guessed that it was about to lead America into this decisive and seemingly irrevocable break with England. To a degree, Congress ' hand was forced. Tension between British troops occupying Boston and the citizens of that city were bound to erupt, as they did a year ago last spring at Lexington and Concord. A subsequent engagement at Bunker Hill made it doubly hard to "uncross the Rubicon." The King himself seemed to be encouraging a fight.

The American Revolution was a very pivotal point in the history of the United States of America. Tensions were building between the colonists of the new world and the British. The British attempted to raise taxes in the colonies causing angry resistance from the colonists. Resistance from the colonies led to violence in 1770 provoking the British Parliament to pass a series of acts to reassert imperial authority in the colonies. By June of 1776 the war was in full swing.

The Continental of Congress meetings played important parts of the Revolution. The First Continental of Congress and the Second Continental of Congress have many similarities and differences. For starters, both of them were discussed in Philadelphia. Every colony sent a representative there except for the state of Georgia in both meetings. (there were no western states)

On June 7, 1776, Richard Henry Lee had announced a motion to Congress to proclaim independence. John Adams and Benjamin Franklin reviewed Jefferson’s draft of the declaration; and they had conserved its imaginative form, but struck passages that were more than likely to meet disagreement or skepticism, particularly the passages that blamed King George III for the intercontinental slave trade and all of those who blamed the British people rather than their own government. The British Government tried its best to terminate the Declaration of Independence as an insignificant document by the unhappy colonists. The British officers hired publicists to highlight the Declaration’s faults. The most significant diplomatic result that came out of the event was to agree on respect for the United States by friendly foreign

Henry's Appeal to the Virginia Convention In 1775, American Colonists were Satisfied about their relationship with Britain. Some people were still hoping that the colonists would work out the disagreements. Others, like Patrick Henry, thought the only thing left to do was to go to war with Britain. Patrick Henry was known for his speeches supporting the American Democracy.

The Battle of Saratoga in September and October of 1777 is the turning point of the Revolutionary War because the French joined with allies, British troops surrendered their arms, and the Patriots had crucial victories. It was a victory for the Patriots in the American Revolution and is the most decisive battles in history. The Battle began as a plan by the British to control New York and isolate New England from the Southern colonies and put an end to the Revolution. Which ended as an opportunity for the Patriots.
