Agriculture has existed The United States of America since our country was colonized by the British and learned the process from the Native Americans. American agriculture has shifted from this structure of small farms that used to exist. Rural communities and small town farms are now less frequent while industrial-style farms and factories are becoming the standard. “Early 20th century agriculture was labor intensive, and it took place on a large number of small, diversified farms in rural areas where more than half of the U.S. population lived” (Dimitri et al. 2). Food security is all or most of the people in a given country that have daily access to enough nutritious food to live active and healthy lives (Miller 131). The opposite of food security is food insecurity, which would be not knowing where the next meal is coming from. Because of food insecurity one in six people in developing countries cannot grow or buy enough food to meet their basic energy needs (Miller 131). About eighty percent of the world’s food supply is produced by industrialized agriculture (Miller 131). The issue with this process that the twenty percent of those that are being fed are those in the undeveloped countries who do not have the resources to use commercial farming, therefore they do not receive as much food to feed their country. Another issue is that large amounts of fossil fuel energy, water, commercial fertilizers, and pesticides are used to produce the monocultures that go into industrialized farming. According to G. Miller, nineteen percent all commercial energy is used in the United States for food production, food processing, and food distribution (138). “Like most of the other leading processors, Tyson supplies its growers with one-day-old chicks where they spend their entire lives on the grower’s property belonging to Tyson” (FFN, 141). These growers are exposed to harmful chemicals and strict guidelines in order to get their paychecks. In the movie Food, Inc. a Tyson farmer shows us how the chickens are raised in a seven week period and how many die from the growth hormones. Most of the chickens were unable to carry their own weight from their breasts being too big for their own bodies and their bones growing too fast too soon. Both organic farming and the Tyson feedlots do the same thing: provide food by the growing and then slaughtering of animals. The deciding of which process of better is merely the decision of whether or not animals have rights to healthy conditions, and then whether those workers caring for the animals deserve to be properly compensated for overseeing and tending to the process. The organic farming cows can spread their own manure in a large pasture which then helps fertilize the grass, therefore the pasture is a feasible environment for them to live and graze in. I know a lot of people don 't know how to farm nor do they want to. But a lot of people forget on caring about where and how they got their produce as long as it is on the market for them to feed themselves or their families. What they don 't know is more and more these days the animals are living in horrible factories their whole lives. Which means they aren 't being treated wrong. They are neglected with the proper food and are being drugged with medications like steroids.

Technology increased hugely over the years but the prices were outrageous to the agriculture society. Because farmers could not afford anything, they lived in poor conditions. Although the farmers were the “front-face” of the society and provided everything for the country, people were forgetting about the, and they were not being represented enough in the government and its policy.

In Blake Hurst’s “The Omnivore’s Delusion: Against the Agri-Intellectuals,” he opposes the accusations made by tofu-eating, recycled-toilet-paper-using, self-starving Michael Pollan and his followers. Throughout “The Omnivore’s Delusion…,” Hurst mentions how methods of farming have evolved to match demands of produce. The author states that “Only ‘Industrial farming’ can possibly meet the demands of an increasing population and increased demand for food as a result of growing incomes” (Hurst 4). This quote essentially means that “Industrial Farming” is the most efficient way to farm for today’s population level. A second point that is made by Hurst is that changes made by today’s farming are necessary.
The industrial food chain unveils the scary but accurate truths to some of the foods found in our local grocery store. For example, Pollan trails the process of turning cattle in a feedlot to the meals found on our dinner tables. He finds many imperfections in the system--the health problems resulting from feeding the cattle grain and not grass, the overwhelming use of chemicals and antibiotics in crops and animals, and the disgusting and cluttered environments of feedlots and industrialized farms. Section two focuses on organic, or rather, the ambiguous definition of organic foods. Pollan explores the manipulations of labels and advertisements, claiming that their foods are “organic”.
During here interview, she stated, “The companies don’t want farmers talking They don’t want this story told.” (Kenner, Food Inc.) Morison also claimed to state that, “It doesn’t matter if the chickens get sick. All of the chickens will go to the plant for processing” (Kenner, Food Inc.) From this interviewer’s statements, Carol Morrison is a credible source because he spends most of her time in the chicken farm and she has interacted with many other companies like Food Inc. To show ethos in this documentary, the author used his personal experience along with what the industry has stated.
Over the past few months, business has been stable throughout the colonies. The leading occupation in these colonies is farming. Although farmers produced a lot of crops, their income was dependent on the value and quality of the crop itself. Agriculture plays a vital role in American economy, and there is evidently some strengths and weaknesses in this business.
I chose to write about factory farming because I’m with familiar with it. Growing up on a 500-acre farm has given me the chance to scrutinize the importance that they are to our community. Throughout my childhood there was always fresh meat and vegetables on the table. When other families were worrying about the recent recall on the type of meat they had just purchased or the chemicals being sprayed onto their fruits and vegetable, I was left wondering why these other families just didn’t do as we did. Having your own family farm not only saves money that you would spend in the grocery store, but also allows for your family to bond over something that’s not on TV.

The brothers began to run their restaurant in a factory style. Each worker only had one specific job to do. Because the workers were assigned simple tasks, they were all paid a low wage and were easily replaced.
Food security is define as having access to a sufficient amount of affordable and nutritious food that meet their dietary needs (Food Secure, n.d.). A person who does not live in fear of being hungry is considered to have food security. Natives now have access to food that may not grow in their region. This would mean that items that are not available in a certain area are delivered to a market where Natives will be able to purchase them. But food security does not say where the food comes from or under the conditions that it was produced and distributed.
