Countries all around the world use memorials and tributes to honor historical events and great leaders. These structures help build national pride and unity. Memorials can be found throughout the United States in just about every city to commemorate anything and everything ranging from local community leaders to Civil War battlefields. The idea of creating a monument similar to Mount Rushmore to commemorate more recent leader of this country is one I believe most of the U.S. would support. The first President I believe should be included in this monument would be Theodore Roosevelt. President Roosevelt’s story may be characterized as the epitome of the true American spirit. From a cattle rancher to the President of the United States is quite …show more content…
Some of President Roosevelt’s greatest accomplishments were the creation of the Panama Canal, the establishment of the national forest’s and wildlife refuges. Roosevelt won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1906 for his efforts to mediate peace between Russia and Japan (Kelly). The second President I would nominate for the monument would be Franklin D. Roosevelt. FDR took the reins of the United States in 1932 when the country was in the depths of the Great Depression and he immediately went to work in restoring the public’s trust. Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal redefined the role of the Federal Government in the lives of the everyday citizens. FDR warned the U.S. of the dangers posed by Germany, Italy and Japan before most recognized them as a threat (History.com). After Japan attacked Pearl Harbor Hawaii and war was declared FDR took a leading role in forming an alliance between countries to combat the Axis powers (History.com). Throughout the war effort President Roosevelt took to the airways on a regular basis to report on the war and to rally the American people to support the war. FDR also helped set the stage for a post war peace organization that came to be known as the United Nations (Histroy.com). Throughout his Presidency Roosevelt became increasingly sick and on 12 April 1945 he suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and
In 1901 the most amazing thing that ever happened to America took place. On October 27, 1858 Theodore Roosevelt was inaugurated. Unfortunately, this did not occur on the best of terms. He was vice president to William McKinley. He was fatally shot a month before.
Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR), our 32nd president, contributed significantly to the history of the United States from 1900 to 1940. During his four terms in office, FDR changed the way that people viewed the role of federal government. While addressing the problems of the time, he put forth legislation that he believed would help to solve the economic and social hardships that people were going through. First elected president of the United States of America in 1932, FDR faced the daunting task of dealing with the Great Depression. Millions of people were out of work, banks were failing, the stock market had crashed and there was literally, no food on the table.
Teddy Roosevelt was the 26 president of the United States. Everyone loved Teddy because of his leadership skills, his diligence, and he was a loving man. There are four faces on Mount Rushmore which are Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt. Why is Teddy on Mount Rushmore? Maybe it was because he protected the environment or many he improved Public health.
I think President Andrew Jackson’s image should be removed from the 20 dollar bill because it doesn’t reflect what the U.S. is about. He was a president, but in my opinion, he wasn’t a very good one because of the many atrocities he committed against Native Americans. One of those bad decisions was forcing many Indians to move to Oklahoma. Another example of this is when he was given the orders to invade Florida, but he destroyed all of the Seminole tribe there. He also let his personal experiences cloud his judgment, especially with the British.
Theodore Roosevelt became the 26th and the youngest president of the United States a year later after his predecessor McKinley was assassinated. During his presidency he was known for his progressive reforms, his great handling of foreign policies and his promoting of piece notably in his famous mediating of the Russian-Japanese
On February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia, VA one of the greatest presidents was born who changed this country by his smart, wise, and tactical advice. This famous president is come to be know as George Washington. George Washington came to be the first president of the united states and cause this country to go into directions where no other man could have possibly done. George Washington always had a smart mind set and tactical, with this, he deserves a rightful spot where his face would be shown to all on mount rushmore. George Washington had many pieces of great influential advice, some examples of this are, not having political parties that cause different opinions and forced more problems.
Franklin D. Roosevelt or “FDR” as he was commonly called, was elected the 32nd president of the United States. He served the longest presidential term in American history, from March 1933 to April 1945. Roosevelt showed great determination throughout his life, even lessening the crucial effects of The Great Depression and leading America through war with Japan for bombing Pearl Harbor. Roosevelt also created programs/laws called the new deal that changed everything in the United States His response to the challenges he faced throughout his presidency made him a defining figure in American history.
When I was informed that I would be writing an essay on the best president in US history, one man immediately came to mind. That man was the twenty-sixth president of the United States, President Theodore Roosevelt. With his major accomplishments in foreign policy, and his work in protecting the environment, that easily qualifies him as the best president. Although some of his accomplishments might not be well known, such as his founding of the National Park Service and the US Forest Service, some of his other accomplishments might be more well known such as the creation of the Panama Canal. Also, he was the youngest president ever to enter office at the age of 42 when his predecessor, President McKinley sadly got assassinated.
On November 8, 1932 the American presidential election was held. Democrat Franklin D. Roosevelt defeated republican president Herbert Hoover during the effects of the Great depression. It began in 1929 when the United States had severe unemployment, drastic declines in output, and deflation. The American People were looking for someone that would lead them through this rough crisis. It was not looking too good for president Hoover because the voters felt he was not capable to rebuild the country.
Andrew Jackson should be on the $20 bill. He helped with the expansion of the United States, inspired the commoners when he became president, and defended the Union and the people. Many people could say that Andrew Jackson is a villain because he forced Indians to move westward. However, he did help with the expansions of the United States.
As much as the United States wanted to stay neutral during World War I, it proved impossible. This meant the United States had to raise the forces and money to wage war. The United States had desperately tried to stay neutral. However, ties to Britain, propaganda, the sinking ships by German U-boats, and a German attempt in the Zimmermann Note to get Mexico to declare war on the U.S pushed the United States to get involved. Thus, the President during this mayhem is the most important figure for America.
Lincoln Memorial The Lincoln Memorial was built to honor Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States. Lincoln was assassinated during office and was honored as one of the most amazing men alive. The Lincoln Memorial has a 19-foot tall, 175-ton statue of Lincoln right in the center.
The argument that Rushmore represents American principles is true: especially if the belief states that theft, genocide, and slavery are the foundation that this country was built upon. The facts are there throughout history, yet people choose to ignore it. People know that this country was founded on the backs of dead indigenous women, children, and elders. These lands carry the remains of their ancestors, they carry the ghosts of terrified screams of those who have died in horrible and inhumane ways. People need to realize exactly what this monument really and truly represents.
Today, his legacy remains all over the U.S with six national parks dedicated to Roosevelt. All of his achievements are remarkable, and are still remembered up to this
Has there ever been a president as influential as Franklin Delano Roosevelt? Truly Roosevelt was a unique man that lead American through one of its hardest times. WWII threatened world peace and the Great Depression was actively wearing the U.S. away. Few other times in U.S history required someone of FDR's caliber to lead America through such a storm. Roosevelt was undoubtedly meant with much success and love.
