He was the 19th president of the United States, and he served during one of the toughest but greatest terms during his election. He battled through rebuilding the nation and making peace between the Democrats and Republicans. Hayes experienced the Civil War which gave him the right to appoint issues for the Americans.

Theodore Roosevelt, former governor of New York, became president due to an odd set of circumstances. Former governor of New York, he was put on the ballot as incumbent President McKinley’s running mate. This was so he could stay in politics, an important member of the Republican party, but giving him as little power as possible, so he could be unable to exercise his unorthodox methods. However, President McKinley was shot, and Roosevelt was sworn in. As shown in Appendix 1, President Roosevelt’s foreign policy was based upon regulating two entirely different groups of people; the developed, rich countries, and the undeveloped, poorer countries.

Because of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s ability to unite America through ending Prohibition, re-establishing faith in the banks and the government, and instilling a sense of patriotism during WWII, Roosevelt is one of the greatest US presidents of all time. The theory behind Prohibition was that alcohol led to prostitution, which led to STDs.

The Great Depression was one of the darkest periods of the United States' history. While as a country we had been prosperous during the 1920s, at the end of the decade, our enthusiastic consumerism and greed came back to haunt us. Beginning with the stock market crash in 1928, the Great Depression was a decade-long economic downturn with worldwide consequences. Franklin Delano Roosevelt is generally regarded as the more successful of the two presidents who were in office over the course of that decade, because of his proactive approach to providing relief to citizens during this tumultuous time.

Even after Japan attacked in the pacific Roosevelt still tried to stay neutral and not get involved much, but later on Germany and France were battling it out a big part of WW2. Roosevelt didn’t want to help the allies but once Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii a warning was given to Japan and then the US finally decided to get involved with WW2. The allies were Britain and the Soviet Union, the reason why the Soviets joined was only because the US agreed to help them with fighting off Germany. Being a President during WW2 says it all, FDR did a great job even though he didn't accomplish his original idea of isolationism. “There is nothing I love as much as a good fight.” an interesting thought to be uttered from a president like that of Franklin Delano Roosevelt. FDR had to push and fight through a lot, not a surprise coming from someone who not only looked up to but was related to Theodore Roosevelt. I believe Franklin Roosevelt to be the greatest president we have ever had, taking on the responsibilities of presidency for 12 years through the Great Depression and World War II, fighting disease the entire time. Roosevelt battled with polio through his entire presidency until it killed him shortly after being elected for a fourth term, the only president to achieve such a feat.
