The Bill of Rights represents the first ten amendments of the U.S Constitution. The First and Fourth amendment does protect the citizen privacy, however it does not regulate the choice of medical care. The Supreme Court has overruled the Obama care in which has made a decision of making every citizen must have health care or will be subject to a penalty on their annual tax and by 2016 the fine is $695 per adult or 2.5 percent of annual income whichever is greater. If you look back to the founding of our country you can see that we have fought war after war to protect are ability to have a first amendment right. Wouldn’t you say that it is a pretty important issue if we are willing to send millions of men and women to fight, and potentially die, for its cause? The first amendment is important because without it there are ghastly consequences. Just look at countries that don’t have the option to speak freely, such as China or North Korea. In these places they are people who constantly have to live in fear about saying the wrong thing to the wrong person.

According to James Madison, “Congress shall make no law…. abridging the freedom of speech….” The First Amendment was written in 1789 and it has worked for decades. However, after the introduction of internet in human’s daily life, the society is now challenged with the idea of government’s role in monitoring the internet content. With situations that include threats, substance unsuitable for children, and online malicious behavior, there is a need for government’s regulation on people’s speech.

Freedom of speech is the concept of the human right to voice one 's opinion publicly without fear of censorship or punishment. Today, freedom of speech is not just limited to public speaking. The internet and social media applications are becoming more frequently used platforms for people who want to convey their views on issues. Due to the huge amount of information being shared online daily, many tend to use the internet and social media to obtain easy access to this unlimited information. However, some might not have the knowledge to differ wrong from right on screen without censorship or any type of online data filter.

The fact that one has the right to say and believe is the foundation for democracy to function. If no one dared to say their opinions, then it had become a dictatorship where only one opinion on how society and the country should work had been the “right”. If people dared to express their opinions, they will help improving the society one lives. Freedom of speech gives one the responsibility to consider what fits into different contexts, and it will make us better persons and people. Simply, people will feel safe in the society they live in.

Abstract This research project is about, hate speech, right to freedom of speech & expression, present landscape of hate speech in politics and role of media in this. The research proves that there is a rise in hate speech during elections. Many political leaders are accused of giving hate speeches during elections just to gain the sympathy of their vote bank. But they forget that it may end up in apathy in the society.
