The French and Indian war (1754-63) resulted in political, economic and ideological relations between British and its American colonies. Even during the time of war, population was booming. The land was becoming too small for the people, which meant the Americans needed more land. France was not going to let the colonists into their land, meaning there was only one way to go: west. The people that occupied such land were the people that were there since the beginning when the first colonists arrived. The Native Americans were being driven out of their own land so that Americans could wear out the land with their tobacco. Tobacco was called the poor man’s crop, although after a couple years the land was worn out and could grow no more. A chief from the Iroquois Confederacy knew this …show more content…
Americans were heading into Indian land without permission, when usually they peacefully bought land from the Indians. The Indians had enough of the colonists. In 1765, Benjamin Franklin wrote a letter about the Stamp Act and said repealing the act would be “the wisest course for you and I to take” (doc G). Franklin appealed to the British House of Commons on the issue. Colonists rioted, tax collectors were tarred and feathered if ever seen out in public. A propaganda poster to repeal the stamp act was shown in the Pennsylvania Journal (doc H), hoping that they would be listened to. After all of the violence occurring, the Stamp Act was repealed in March of 1766. The American colonists got their way. During the French and Indian war, many territorial changes were happening in
Throughout the mid 18th century there was a big argument about land and power between the French and the British. This land included the upper land of the Ohio River Valley as well as the rest because the more land someone had the more power they also had. The reason why they were competing for this land was because the British were feeling threatened due to the fact that the French were taking away the land they felt were theirs by right. This also brought a feeling of threat to the British because the French were gaining power and control in trading. The start of the French and Indian War was caused by the dispute between the French and British about who was going to have more land since the more land someone had, the more powerful they were.
The French and Indian war was the final colonial war and it to place from 1689 to 1763. It was the last of four American wars. This war altered the political, economic, and ideological relations between British and the French. During this time each country fought for control of the continent with the help of the Native Americans and colonial allies. Britain and American colonies were defeated even though Britain had already won all the land (Document 1).
The Stamp Act of 1765 had not been a first time attempt on taxation of the Americans. The Parliament had passed the Sugar Act and Currency act the year before. Since the tax was gathered at ports, it was easily avoided. Once Parliament passed the Stamp Act in March of 1765, things started to change.
The French and Indian War altered the relations of the American Colonies and Britain through political, economic, and geographical issues. At the start of the French and Indian War the French owned a big majority of land but the during the war the French lost their land to the English. The Treaty of Paris in 1763 gave the English, the French land of North America (Doc A).
The way the colonists reacted to the Stamp Acts is that they boycotted British goods. King George III reacted by repealing the Stamp Act and put the Declaratory Act in to that same day. The Declaratory Act is a law that stated that Parliament had the right to tax the colonies
The French and Indian War started by the French and the British wanting to expand their country's ruling over the new world. Because of the two countries both being there at the same time there needed to be boarders to signify whose land was
The French and Indian War came before the big issue of The Proclamation of 1763. The French and Indian War was a war between the British and the French. The war happened because they were fighting for the Ohio Valley. The British won the war which was good and did create unity between the colonies. The win caused us to somewhat unite and helped us gain confidence.
The French and Indian War At first glance, both websites present me with two different pictures, two different stories, and two different points of view of a dramatic time in history that would forever change the way the United States of America would come to be. I chose to compare History.com and Britannica.com manly because I wanted to see the difference, if any, in an American based website and a more British based website on the topic of the French and Indian War. A war between the French and the British over territorial claims which took place in North America. Needless to say, most of the information found on said websites was almost identical. However, the information given from Britannica.com was so much into detail that they even went as far back as 1663, 91 years before
Many colonists protested against this act by sending messages to the Parliament. “Mobs calling themselves ‘Sons of Liberty’ attacked tax collectors’ homes” (TCI, 67). When the Stamp Act arose, Franklin spoke about his political beliefs and opposition against the Stamp Act. He realized that the Parliament did not have the authority to tax other colonies. Through the help of Franklin and months of protest, the Stamp Act was finally repealed.
Academic scholars have covered elements of Indian warfare and the Indian culture from the Beaver Wars of the seventeenth century to the end of what may be considered the Sixty Years’ War, which consisted of various conflicts between the Eastern Woodland Indians and Europeans. Little has been done to cover the related conflict in Western Pennsylvania other than the battles during the French and Indian War. What I have not found is any study of the relationship between culture and warfare against the Europeans. The research I have been doing is directly influencing how I will approach my topic and possibly change my thesis. Historians may have focused more on Pontiac’s influence in the Great Lakes region of the conflict as well as the bulk
*** As the days continued people progressively began to grow enraged at the tax. Tax collectors were driven out of their jobs at an alarming rate, but alas, Great Britain would not get rid of the tax. It both infuriated and fueled us colonists to push harder, to be as much of a nuisance as possible to the British. Times were dreadful, but our spirits were as tough as nails. Then, on March 20, 1766, nearly a year later, the Stamp Act was repealed.
This angered the colonists and they began to boycott purchasing taxed items. The stamp act was repealed on March 18, 1766. The British government began placing new taxes on the colonists such as the Sugar Act and the Currency
The French-Indian War of 1754-1763 resulted in political, ideological, and economic alterations within Britain and its American colonies. The French and Indian War, also referred to as The Seven Years War, began with British and French conflicts across the Ohio River Valley, as both nations wanted to claim the land for themselves. The first blood of the French-Indian War began with multiple British failures, including Washington’s dreadful defeat at Fort Necessity and General Braddock’s failed attempt at conquering Fort Duquesne, in which he died along with two-thirds of his army (Document C). The British would, however, gain momentum in 1759 with multiple victories, including their most significant triumph, Quebec.
The American Revolution The French and Indian War impacted the American Revolution in many ways. Britain incurred a large debt from the cost of the war and the taxes that they imposed on the colonists created feelings of anger and rebellion that led to the revolution. As a result of the French and Indian war, the British were not at full strength which allowed the actions of the colonists to be more effective. Because of the outcome of the war, France was willing to help the colonists. Without the much needed help from the French the colonist may have never won the war.
The French and Indian War was important to the American Revolution because the debt from the war was the reason that Parliament started taxing the colonists. Also, the French and Indian War made Britain very weak, making the colonists’ actions work a whole lot better. Since France was not happy with the outcome of their war with Britain this was a main reasons for France’s interest in helping the now Americans throughout the Revolutionary War, which was very important to the colonies’ victory. The reason why Britain started to tax the colonists was because of the debt resulting from the French and Indian War. The first tax was the the tax on sugar, which was put on the colonists to help pay off the war debt.
