French Revolutionary Government Research Paper

The French Revolution had a major impact on Frances society. Revolutions can be contagious; the American Revolution inspired the French in their revolution. Many conditions led up to the French Revolution. Political, social, and economical conditions caused anger and rage to people of the third class. The views of the Enlightenment inspired new ways of government and ways of living to society.

Before anyone can ever discuss anything about the rising and falling of New France, Consideration must to be giving to the French and her Empires that was built in the New World. Robespierre led the French Revolution known as “The Reign of Terror”. The new government would execute large numbers of individuals whom they believed to be enemies of the revolution. So, the Reign of Terror was unjustified, for it not only violated the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen in multiple cases, specifically articles two and ten, but also caused the death of thousands. Although the Committee of Public Safety had good intentions, it ended up doing more harm than good as they invaded people’s lives and disregarded their rights as human beings.

Should certain actions be accepted by society when they are for the greater good? Often in situations there are two defined sides. The reign of terror posed challenges to the government to remain civil and fair. While there were people that brought violence and hardship to avoid any change in the nation. The actions that took place during the reign of terror are justified due to the fact that it brought france order and stability, established fair rights, and abolished inherited human circumstances like slavery and nobility.

As a result of the French Revolution many thought that it gave an example for the disgruntled people of Britain to follow as a way of having their demands met through riots. This is because it was successful for France and their monarchy was overthrown. At that time, the British Army was considered the best military in the world, and they were sending the soldiers to America by the thousands.

The most important cause of the Democratic Revolutions of the seventeen-seventy's and the eighteen-ten’s was political because the people did not have a voice in the government. Before the French Revolution, France was ruled by monarchies. Kings and queens ruled France and had the power of its people. For example, in the article of the “ French Revolution” it states that during their ruling time, they enjoyed his power by using the “ Letter de Cachet” to arrest innocent people. As well, they did not care about their citizens.

The Reign of Terror In September 1793 to July 1794, the Reign of Terror killed over 40,000 people in France using the guillotine a machine that made it a simple way to execute a mass amount of people. The Reign of Terror was led by no other than , Robespierre. He was trying to form a new government but instead caused thousands of people to be massacred. Ultimately, The Reign of Terror in France was not justified because the threats did not require it, the methods were too extreme and It did not support the ideals of the revolution.

Also many French citizens fought against the military draft called the levée en masse and against laws that tried to abolish Christianity in France. France was being attacked from two fronts, outside invaders and by rebels and émigrés. Desperate times require desperate measures.
