Gender Inequality is prevalent over much of the world. It is not limited to a few cultures and countries, but has global implications that affect everyone, men and women. The tide does seem to be changing, but slowly and there is hope that one day men and women can be seen as equals.
I was lucky enough to interview the mother of two coworkers, one from Laos, and one from Nicaragua.
I pretty much expected what they both told me and their experiences were similar. The mother from Laos, told me that most women in her country were expected to stay home with the children, as was the case in Nicaragua. In Laos, however, if a woman wanted to get a job, a bribe of some kind would need to be offered because the cost of living is low there, and it is expected that both parents would not need to work.
Men and women have equal opportunity to education in Laos, but many women do not pursue it once they get married and have children. Women there don’t have to work if they don’t want to, unlike women in the US. And if they choose to, it is often very laid back and they can take many

Women in the high middle class are encouraged to finish high school and pursue further education. Many go on to university in the US and Europe. The lower middle class may also send their children to university, at great expense. Children in the lower middle class may go, but the preference will be for the boys in a family to go over any boys the family may have. For poor families, girls will not have the opportunity to attend school as children as there is little to access to public school. Girls are expected to pick crops starting around 6-7 and by the time they around 10-12, having spent the time in between selling candy or begging in the street, they are sent out to the streets, to make money any way they can. The schools that are located in higher socioeconomic areas obtain much greater funding due to the parents earning more and therefore being able to fund the school better. In today's society, the leading cause for not obtaining a higher education is the cost of education and therefore Americans who have better upbringings usually receive the best education there is to offer and often choose to seek higher education because they are able to. The effects that are reflected from these financial variations between people of higher socioeconomic backgrounds and ones of people who are not as financially well off inevitably build barriers for the individuals who endure lower education. Not growing up with financial freedom and therefore not being able to afford college has a large impact on the individual's life as an adult. More value is placed on children and families with more money, while working-class schools often receive incredibly poor education. As Anyon states, "Differing curricular, pedagogical, and pupil evaluation practices emphasize differing cognitive and behavioral skills in each social setting and thus contribute to the development in the children of certain potential relationships to physical and symbolic capital, to authority, and to the process of work." (151) When pupils at lower-class schools are only instructed to memorize and not to think for themselves, they're set up to be at a large disadvantage to those who've received an upper-class education and learned how to draw their own conclusions and really assert themselves. This disadvantage manifests primarily in the types of jobs available to such students after graduation, and subsequently, the social class that they'll fall into given their income level. Working-class students are more likely to get blue-collar jobs, while students from the professional or elite class will land higher up the corporate ladder.

There is a relationship between gender socialization and gender stratification problem in the U.S. society. Gender socialization is the tendency for the boys and girls to be socialized differently such as boys are raise to accept male gender role while girls are raised to accept female gender role. Gender role are define role, behavior pattern, attitude, and personality trait set by society that each gender must display according to their gender. Gender stratification is the inequality that exist between female and male such male having higher income then female counterpart, male getting better position at jobs then female, and stereotyping female. In many societies, women have been categorized as inferior to men. Greek poet, Homer, consistently highlighted this ‘women are inferior’ theme throughout his writings of The Iliad and The Odyssey. Even though this degradation of women has currently been brought to light in the 21st century, it continues to remain a serious issue.
As you reach higher positions in jobs, the study becomes more complicated and harder to achieve. A strong foundation in education will lead to a more top paying job.
