One of the first interview after college, hiring manger asked me “Where do you see yourself in 5 year?” Deep inside, I knew the answer: Not SALES but I also needed a job… so what do I say? “If there will be an opportunity for advancement in the future, I would like to be able to work as a manager.” I went to several Sales interview hoping to land a full-time position after college but was never satisfied; My heart was always set in doing research. I became interested in research through my study abroad in Ghana- Early Fall 2015 where I had the opportunity to conduct Qualitative research for the first time. So, I picked this topic with the sense of comparing the educational sectors of Ghana and Nepal; I wanted to find the similarities and differences in the school system. My goal was to understand if studying the education system in Ghana will help me understand education in Nepal as well and if technology is the answer to educational development? During the process, I interviewed many young adults, teachers and families as well. With the help of classes in different disciplines throughout my undergraduate year, I connected with my interviewees and gained valuable information that were not found through internet research. When asked about implementing technology in schools, everyone was very excited and positive, however, soon I realized that some part of Ghana didn’t have the basic needs such as electricity and sufficient resources to support my question of interest. I began to understand that, even upon presenting advanced solutions, this project would be unsustainable and costly for the community members. The experience I gained from the program enabled me to understand the isolation of technology development in developing nation. Therefore, upon returning to University, I focused on …show more content…
I enrolled myself in Data Analytics with Excel online course on Springboard and started learning R program on Datacamp.com. Every week, I dedicated 15 hours of my time on both courses simultaneously. After recently completing my Data Analytics course on Excel, I started to seek out for more formal educational program in Data Science. Upon several online research and reaching out to Admission assistant, I became assured that the Data Science Certification Program at Indiana University Bloomington is the best fit for me. What attracts me to this program is the flexible online option with the same quality of rigorous course work as Master’s program and the opportunity to transition to full time Master’s student in future. If given the opportunity, I would like to pursue the Decision-Maker Path of the Data Science program through Masters of Science in Data Science – Hybrid program upon completing the certification program to be well equipped to transition into Research Data Analyst role. I am excited to take classes in ILS Z637 Information Visualization and SPEA V506 Statistical Analysis for Effective Decision-Making as it will be a huge addition to my skill set to communicate effectively though visually engaging methods with the individual/ groups of an organization. While my social science background has helped, me understand qualitative research methods, the strong
The implications of stopping the use of child labour in the cocoa industry in Cote d'Ivoire spread far and wide, affecting the government, cocoa farmers, chocolate companies and children themselves. The UN's Food & Agriculture Organisation states that more than a third of the world’s cocoa is supplied by Cote d'Ivoire. Cocoa is the country's largest export, earning around 2.5 billion dollars in 2010. According to a report by Tulane University that investigated the 2013, 2014 harvest season, there were around 1,203,473 child laborers aged 5 to 17 in the cocoa industry, of which 95.9% were engaged in hazardous work. Stopping child labour in Côte d'Ivoire will improve children's education & health levels.
The course prescriptive analytics would help me prepare for the future with learning about how to collect and implement data processing. The VA Hospital is always collection data and tying out new programs for veterans this course will teach me what is working and what is not working. In this course it would help prepare me on how to input these new systems into play with in all the VA Hospitals. The VA does a lot of data analytics and getting an ahead start on it would be prefect for me

Certain images and stories that I have encountered have influenced my viewpoint on education in lower developed countries. My original view was basically nonexistent, for I had little information on the hardships that those people go through on a daily basis. I used to think that everyone in the world has had the same privileges and opportunities that I have had. A most recent example of an image and a story that have moved me is Ashley Washburn’s story. Washburn is a teacher that predominantly works with kids in Tanzania and has worked to improve the educational experience for these kids.
The AIS 3001 Mid-Collegiate Bridging course has been an eye-opening experience for me. As an adult student going back to school, I was initially unsure of what to expect from the course and how it would fit into my academic and career goals. Throughout the AIS 3001 Mid-Collegiate Bridging class, I had the opportunity to learn and grow in various ways. From the very beginning, the professor introduced the course requirements very clearly and went through how to use the School Catalyst platform for navigation and the assignment modules.
Each day I attended my Marketing class, I grew very fond of the subject of Business. After the first week of school, I knew what career I would be heading in. My goal would be to move back to New York and be a resilient businesswoman. My interest in Business grew, day by day.
Depict me; a full-time CSR, Mother, and wife. I have always wanted to go back to college, even after I dropped out, in 2010. I have always aspired to be a Network and Technology Manager. My dreams has been put on the back burner because of my priorities. Now, my priorities have changed, so now I can finish what I have started.
When investigating health priorities of Ghana, the first approach is to look at the burden of disease. This takes into consideration disability-adjusted life years (DALY), years of life lost from premature mortality (YLL) and years of healthy life lost due to disability. Because burden of disease takes into considerations health outcomes that cause premature death and disability it is a key area to target interventions. Specifically, for Ghana, this includes nutritional deficiency, HIV, and Malaria. This was used as these are the diseases that cause the highest among of disability a crucial factor to take into consideration when determining where priorities need to be.
The social contributions of Mali, Ghana, and Songhai came to be when Mansa Musa went to go make his pilgrimage to Mecca. When he went there he brought back many great Islamic minds, this included architects. The architects brought their skill and ways to the architecture to timbuktu. They built mosques and specific buildings to bring islam to the city. The mosques served as schools too.
You’ve gone to school with a particular career in mind, but even if you’re out of school and can’t find a job, which happens to a lot of college student, you have more
Farmers in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) have probably only two options to continue eking out a living out of agriculture. They will have to either intensify in terms of using technologies to increase productivity per unit of a limiting resource or they will have to spatially expand their production. The second option is highly unlikely in many parts of region and it is virtually impossible in Ethiopia, Malawi and to a certain extent in Tanzania as well. The intensification farmers need to do is however associated with risk that is inherent in adopting new technologies. Given farm households’ imperfect knowledge about the technologies and the circumstances the technologies will be used, it can hardly be expected that technologies for sustainable
In Frida Ghitis In Troubled West Africa, Ghana Leads the Way on Democracy, Rule of Law (http://www.worldpoliticsreview.com/articles/15705/in-troubled-west-africa-ghana-leads-the-way-on-democracy-rule-of-law), the topic of Ghana’s type of government and how it has succeeded is discussed. Ghana, a country that has struggled to gain democracy and order, now has the freest press out of all African countries. Ghana has had to recover from serious civil wars and is being labeled as a “free country.” This says a lot about what is being done to help the country improve. Although it still has plenty of room to improve in areas outside the government, their laws that ensure freedom show potential and look promising.
The promises of educational technology are phenomenal especially in the case of urban school districts. Technology is a versatile and valuable tool for teaching and learning and becoming a way of life. The most important thing is that teachers need to be prepared to use these technologies effectively. Schools can use technology effectively and for the welfare of students, teachers and society, it must be done.
It was a very noticeable pattern even in my family history that the economical prospects for those not very technology savvy are very average. Which gives me a very strong signal, that to be able to move forward and have bright future prospects, I have to consciously re-invent myself and stay in tune with technological advances. Thankfully, most nations in the developing world have realized the same and are making progress in the field of technology as well. With countries such as India and Philippines growing rapidly, they seem to be the new emerging super powers. India has now the third largest economy in the world and it is estimated that with in the next few years it will take over that of Japan’s.
