Your honor, the jury, emotional distress is defined as mental suffering, and a victim reacts through worry, shame, humiliation, and fright. It is an invasion of personal rights when such distress disrupts the daily life. The defendant, CJ Pearson, caused distress towards Alex Billings. In addition, “The world is made up of two classes -- the hunters and the huntees. Luckily, you and I are the hunter” (17). Additionally, “I have but one passion in my life, Mr. Rainsford, and it is the hunt” (22).
ASD and PTSD are different in two ways. First is the diagnosis of ASD can be given only within the first month following a traumatic event. If posttraumatic symptoms were to continue beyond a month, the clinician would evaluate for signs of PTSD. Second is ASD is the significance of dissociative symptoms. For a person to be diagnosed with ASD requires to experience three symptoms of dissociation (example: numbing, reduced awareness, depersonalization, derealization, or amnesia), while the PTSD diagnosis does not include a dissociative symptom.

1) I became interested in social work after working in a residential treatment facility and witnessing the impact the “system” has on children. I have worked with children who were institutionalized at a young age. They had had several placements ranging from foster homes, group homes, lock down facilities etc., revolving social workers, and broken trust in adults. While working with these children, providing one-on-one care and building rapport, I began to notice the gaps in the system and how they affected these children. With the work I have done providing services to individuals from infancy to adulthood, I have seen the effects of trauma on their life trajectory, if not properly supported.

Trauma to the face caused by assault or impact from solid objects, often causes internal orbita fractures. In 1957, Smith and Regan described the term “orbital blow-out fracture” from their observation that blunt eyeball trauma due to a tennis ball or a fist increased intraorbital pressure without disruption of soft tissue integrity or causing a fracture line in orbital rims but could cause orbital floor fractures (1). Such fractures have been categorized as “pure blow-out fractures” in which only the orbita floor is affected, and “impure blow-out fractures” in which fractures of other maxillofacial bones such as zygomatic, maxillary, and nasoethmoid are also affected. The prevalence of pure blow-out fractures is 2.8% to 21.4% in such injuries (2,3).
According to Cathy Caruth, at long last, in 1980, the American Psychiatric Association decided to recognize and include in the new edition of its official diagnostic manual of mental disorders a new category: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD. This designation came to comprise signs of illnesses which had been called shell shock, battle fatigue, combat neurosis, or traumatic neurosis throughout the twentieth century and related to reactions to both disasters of nature and atrocities produced by human beings (Caruth, Unclaimed Experience
More times than not, children tend to have a severe imbalance in their ANS, because of early attachment issues and/or trauma. They may feel that their bodies and emotions are out of their control. Javier was likely met with irresistible situations, and was left without comfort by his caregivers. Because of this, Javier may have rarely felt safe enough. Since infants require an extended period of care and protection, they are birthed with behaviors that assist them in maintaining closeness to others who are capable of assisting them with regulating distress, first attachment figure.
