Investigating an Academic Tug-a-war: PE and GPA Running a stimulating mile, performing relaxing exercises, and spending time with friends all sound pleasant and truly are as components of physical education. Students are given the opportunity to showcase their abilities or improve upon and learn new techniques. Physical education is imperative and provides many benefits to students. This class should continue to be counted in one’s grade point average, despite the recent arguments, proposed by opponents, which greatly lack evidence. An argument in favor of keeping PE when calculating grade point average is, “Gym is freedom and allows students to exercise at their own paces, team up with friends, and learn to keep their bodies in shape” (Hakimian, Kim). Physical education is not a difficult class to earn a passing grade in as long as constant effort is put in by the students since the grade is mostly based on participation. Students who may not have satisfactory grades in other classes can achieve an A or high B if they push themselves to the limit. In turn, this gives a healthy boost to students’ grade point averages, balancing out their other classes’ grades (Uscribe). For instance, in my own physical education class, participation weighs as two-thirds of the overall grade with actual physical …show more content…
There will be many times when students will neglect their health due to other factors such as stress or simply ignorance. By beginning now, we can instill a sense of physical education’s importance and ensure that students carry on these abilities to their adult lives, knowing that having a good physical state would vastly improve their mental
This is done now through the process of having a two assessment category- formative and summative. Both of these categories are used to determine the student’s quarter and semester grade. The summative category would be based on four common assessments, and one of these must be a performance task. As for formative assessments, this would show students the progress that they have made in mastering the material that would appear during the summative exam. He continues by saying that the school has realized that they can no longer control student’s grades based on behavioral infractions.
Learning Journal ACEs Score The ACE score measures 10 types of childhood trauma, the first five of them are personal and the last five are related to other family members. As a child, most people may experience different types of trauma all to different severities. Depending on how high a person’s ACE score is determines how high of a risk that they may have for developing problems that may affect them as adults, including health problems, as well as social and emotional issues.
Extraneous variables such as, children’s motivation levels and environmental conditions may have influenced the physical fitness test. Furthermore, the type of available physical education program may have impacted students’ scores. This research did not investigate the physical education (P.E.) program at the LAPUSD, nor did it investigate how often students for each school year received P.E., or if they received at least 50 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity
Today in America, many kids still concentrate on sports and attempt to succeed in their favorite sport. The role of high school sports includes providing health
When a student plays a sport, then the lesson of P.E. is already learned. To play a sport you have to be fit, eat nutritious food, and exercise a lot. It makes no sense for an athlete to take gym class then because the lesson is taught by their coaches. Gym teachers are used to be served as role models, and to demonstrate the knowledge of health, physically wellness. Athletes already have an example of a healthy lifestyle.

The student's grades in gym should not affect their grade point averages because it encourages bullying, the grading scale is subjective, and GPA's are a measure of a student's academic prowess. Gym class will encourage bullying through all types of forms. One of these cases being that teachers will praise a student for being able to do X amount of pushups in Y amount of time, and give kids who are genuinely trying
Physical education may be very beneficial for student’s health, but it really should be the student’s choice. There are some students that aren’t the best at physical education and are behind in grades. Although helpful for people’s health, this is unfair to make it compulsory especially when they aren’t good at it. When year 11’s and 12’s are doing SACE subjects, for people that aren’t that skilled in physical education they would be wasting a subject where they could actually be doing something they enjoy and something they’re good at. Doing that would then bring their ATAR score down and perhaps prevent them from getting the right marks for the university of their choice.
Finally, the most important reason that high school students should not be required to take P.E. classes every year of high school is Some students have medical problems that make them unable to take p.e. classes. Imagine if a student with hemophilia were running with a group of kids outside and he tripped and scraped the skin off his knee, the coach might know how to respond but if he just happened to not be paying attention then there would be a student bleeding to death surrounded by children who would have no idea that something serious was even happening. Indeed, while it is important for children to exercise and to learn how to keep their bodies in shape, high school students should not be required to take P.E. classes every year of high school. I think that if a student has taken at least two years of P.E. already and still don’t exercise properly by themselves having them take a P.E. class every year for the rest of their school life would be a waste of time that they could be using to study other things.
Dear Editor, I am Writing to express my opinion on the issue of having physical education grades affect your total grade point average. Some may argue that children will take gym classes more seriously now that they know that their grade in that class will affect their overall grade. But if those students did not try before then they must not be students that will change their mind over a grade. People may also say that some children perform better in physical activities then in academics, but academics are always more important than sports. Even if you are a professional football player you are going to need some form of education to get into a good college or have a good job.
Why should Reynolds students be required to take a course in Physical Education (PE) to graduate? As we know that the physical education is the one of the courses which cannot lack in the education systems. In my opinion, an absolutely evidence is that physical education is given to school program when we were as children. We cannot deny the benefits that bring to us, such as physical, mental, and social. Students taking physical education course will have a good physical -----------------.
PHED 3670 Final Reflection Planning Commentary My college students were between the ages of 20 and 25. The class had prior knowledge of what occurs in a physical education and some had even played a sport before. Moreover, they had a high maturity level and knew to wear appropriate athletic wear. The prerequisites for this class was balance, coordination, leg strength, physical abilities, and developmental readiness.
Kids have grown to love sports over the years but many parents worry about their children’s scholarship. In many argument essays, people state that the entertainment kids are so fond over can have an effect on students graduation. Therefore, school sports should be removed because exercise activities take away the chance of students doing their school work, they cost too much, and not having these athletics will mean kids won't be distracted anymore. Many parents think their kids spend too much time focusing on sports than they do with their work. In 2012, 80 percent of the students in Premont Independent District passed their classes (Ripley 10).
As a Maccabi soccer player and sports fanatic, I believe physical exercise has a major influence on my sleep. Moreover, physical exercise has impacted on my health, productivity and quality of life. This curious belief specifically regarding the influence of sports on sleep, has encouraged me to complete my major research task on this above topic. I am fascinated to know if physical exercise truly impacts on a person’s sleep or whether it is simply the placebo effect in action. In this research task I will investigate whether or not playing sport impacts on a person’s quality of sleep.
Physical education is a process aimed at improving human performance through physical activities associated with the acquisition and refinement of motor skills, development and maintenance of optimal health and fitness to good condition, acquire knowledge, and develop positive attitudes toward physical activity. Jenny (1961) and Williams (1964) argues that provide education through physical education and physical activity affect all development goals, including the physical, mental and social development. However, many people today who do not know the advantages of physical education. , They argue that physical education is important for their children while physical education is also one of the success factors of a student . What is meant by physical education is also a subject which all students have to take it either in school or even university.
