Everyone wonders what the future will be like at least once in their lifetime. Ray Bradbury and George Orwell addressed this idea with the writing of their books, Fahrenheit 451 and Animal Farm. These novels force one to think about what the future may be like. In these two books the authors attempt to convey messages of warning about what may come to be in the future by creating a society in which everyone is oblivious to the option of individual rights. Then, by using allusions, the authors compare their fictional worlds to today's society and give signs that our current world may become like these fictional societies.

Mass school shootings have been going on for years and have only gotten more frequent. Mass school shootings have tripled since 2011 according to a Harvard Research. There have been five school shootings this year since August. People wonder if having stricter gun laws in general or allowing guns on campus would help these horrible tragedies from occurring. Depending on the environment being lived in plays a big role in the use and possession of guns.

Over the course of three years, approximately 160 school shootings have been recorded. Including fatal and nonfatal assaults, suicides, and unintentional shootings. In all, the incidents resulted in 59 deaths and 124 nonfatal gunshot injuries (Analysis of school shootings). It is unreasonable how many innocent lives have been taken away because of these tragedies. Oftentimes when a mass shooting occurs, people debate gun control laws more profoundly.

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution grants its’ citizens the right to keep and bear arms. Though the Second Amendment addresses the legality of owning a firearm, the morality of owning a gun is left as an unanswered question. Since the right to bear arms is not a fundamental right and guns cause harm to innocent people, it is my position that the government should endorse stricter gun control measures, particularly automatic and semiautomatic weapons. In this paper I will argue my position of abolition by examining both premises in depth, discussing the role and duty of the government, and addressing an objection to my position.
