Survival can mean the difference between life and death. Making choices that a person’s life depends on can lead to paranoia. If anxiety is at the front of the brain, a person’s rational decision-making ability can be impaired. Being able to make rational decisions is key to surviving. Both Elie Wiesel and Harry Potter exemplify that survival takes knowledge and alliances. For instance, Elie Wiesel is the author of the memoir Night and a survivor of the Holocaust. He is an example of a survivor who beat all the odds. Elie Wiesel is a Jewish man who endured he horrors of the Holocaust. Harry Potter, from the Harry Potter book series, was a fictional wizard. The books were set in the late 1980’s. Harry Potter defied all the odds when he survived a killing curse at age one. Voldemort tried to kill Harry, and succeeded in killing both his mother and father. Harry however, was able to survive because his mother gave her life to protect Harry, which in turn created a shield, so that Harry could not be harmed. Harry was then given to the Dursleys, his only living relatives, and was brought up in their abusive household. When Harry found out he was a wizard, he immediately left to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There, he astounded everyone with his magical capabilities. As the years went on and Harry realized how serious things had gotten between him and Voldemort, he heavily relied on friends and teachers, and also on his wizarding ability, and his vast knowledge of spells. Harry always relied on his friends, who were with him to the end, and he always had help from Dumbledore and the other teachers. Harry defeated Voldemort multiple times, despite only being a teenager. Harry even sacrificed his own life to protect the ones he loved. Harry survived the killing curse once again, and was then able to defeat Voldemort in the final battle. Harry managed all this with the help of friends and teachers. During a lifetime you are forced to make many decisions. some may have your life on the line. Like the decisions that Elie had to make in the Memoir Night by Elie Wiesel. In the time that Wiesel and his father were in the concentration camps they were forced to make many decisions that would determine in they would live or die.
11 million people endured a violent murder at the hands of Hitler's Nazis without doing anything wrong. Around europe Jewish people suffered and slaughtered like animals under the Nazi and their concentration camps lived a life of death and horror, but some survived conquering death and abuse, resisting the odds and surviving. One of these people went by the name Elie Wiesel. Wiesel survived the oppression and insurmountable obstacles pushed in front of him by the Nazis because of his undying stamina.
