Although, the whole book tries to show Harry’s heroic traits, the expressions of Hermione changes stereotypes of the female character. When they meet dangers, she is the first one to calm down. Also, she is the most powerful wizard of three main characters. Hermione is a feminist is not only because her struggles, but also her feminine. She is sensitive and emotional, but she does not yield to her own weakness, and stands up to prove herself. J.K Rowling shows through …show more content…
Oppositely, she is very emotion and sometimes fragile. For example, when Ron jealous about her on the train and talk bad about her, she feels hurt and cries in the girl’s bathroom. It shows Hermione is a very sensitive woman and cares about how people talk about her. Filippa Tsatsa agrees when he writes in his article, “Hermione is the only main character of the female sex. She is also the character who most often shows signs of feminine characteristics such as being self-conscious when it comes to her looks, overly emotional and vulnerable” (Filippa Tsatsa, 24). Basically, Tsatsa is saying Hermione is just like other females, sensitive and vulnerable. When she gets hurt she will hide and cry: but this is a woman’s nature, they are more emotion than males. However, this does not mean Hermione is weaker than other male characters. She is actually better than other students. When they are having class, she is always the first one who knows the answer to the teacher’s question. When three of them see the troll, two boys cannot find a way to defeat the troll. If people are born as a muggle, it would be difficult for them to integrate into the wizardry society. They will not be able to get top jobs due to discriminations against them. Just like females in the real world, people think they are weaker than males, and unable to get top jobs. Hermione is a muggle, at the same time, she is a girl. J.K Rowling set this background on her willing to connect the wizardry world and the real world. Hermione is in the vulnerable group either in the two worlds, but she does not give up fighting. Hermione wants equality as a muggle, which also shows the inequality of wizardry world and allusion inequality in the real world. When Hermione sees the problems, she will not hide, but solve the problem. In THE WOMEN IN HARRY POTTER’S WORLD: A FEMINIST PERSPECTIVE by Julia Greif quotes, “When Hermione sees a problem, there is a will for her to not only solve the issue at hand but also to become the most knowledgeable person. The end of the first novel is one of many examples of how Rowling creates Hermione as a problem solver and a doer” (Julia Greif 32). This shows that Grief believes Hermione can be a problem solver by her knowledge. When they go to the trap door, she uses her knowledge of the philosopher’s stone to know the stone is hidden behind the trap door. Hermione has more knowledge of magic because she has born as a muggle and she does not want others
Gender roles that are given represent feminine as weaker and sensitive, while a man may not cry. They must take action with no emotion along with no hesitation. Gender has social, psychological, and behavioral aspects. Female qualities give less damage, looked upon as harmless, while male features give off more destruction and dangers to people. In Macbeth, the roles were acted and reversed in actions that take place; It emphasizes the gender roles.
She explains that there may be situations, such as female circumcision that one culture would see as an injustice while the women in that culture may find a sense of freedom and
‘’It’s not often you get female characters who don’t fit in a box’’, complained actress Rebecca Hall. Females are considered to be extremely emotional and one dimensional characters in classic literature. They point to classic pieces such as Pride and Prejudice’s character Elizabeth and The Scarlet Pimpernel characters. Though female characters can bring humor, conflict, or romance even though they are critiqued otherwise. In The Scarlet Pimpernel, the Comtesse brings happiness and a loving tone to the story while Marguerite brings the conflict and the troubling romance.

This revenues that Jean is not startled to use her wand, when there is distress rising. She is also one of Professor Lupin’s favorite students. In the story it states, “You’re the cleverest witch of your age I've ever met, Hermione.” This reveals that Granger distillates in Professor Lupin’s class because, he teaches them different types of spells. She knows what to do at a certain moment when Draco appears because as soon as he approaches, she knows an issue will
J.K Rowling, the author of the well-received Harry Potter novels, shapes her 3 main characters around adversity. One particular character that perseveres through unimaginable hardship is Hermione Granger. In the first novel, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer 's Stone”, Granger is revealed to be to a “mudblood,” one who has non-magical parents.
The roles of women are depicted in the works of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and A Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft; Jane, who shows women’s roles through her characters and Mary, who spoke about it and strongly tried to persuade women to change
Harry is a master of virtue according to everything from scripture to business ethics. The focus of harry becomes many symposia such as Nimbus and Prophecy and an expected session topic at scholarly gatherings such as The International Conference on the fantastic in the Arts and Meetings of the pop culture Association. While newspaper and magazine critics tented to focus on the social aspects of the Potter phenomenon scholars looked as well as literary person’s ancestors and social background, structures and theme. Throughout the Harry Potter series, it can be seen that the most significant female character is Hermione Granger. The portrayal of Hermione shows Rowling believes about how women should behave as she is seen as the epitome of girl power (Pham, 2014). Her cleverness are shown throughout the series where she is seen to read and study a lot. Besides being smart, Hermione is known to be brave as she follows Harry’s battle to fight Voldemort by defeating the rivals. Other than that, she is known for being a loyal friend and independent, specifically from boys.
Hermione and Ron both tackle specific challenges that Harry would have been unable to face on his own, specifically Professor McGonagall's challenge of the giant wizarding chess and Professor Snape's challenge of the potions. In this case, Harry's friendship with Ron and Hermione saves his life and allows him to keep Voldemort from finding the Sorcerer's
Harry always puts his friends first, and in this book one of the people who are put in danger is his close friend Hermione, and in the end his best friend’s sister is abducted. The book’s theme can be compared to many other books, for example The Hunger Games. Katniss, the main character in that book, volunteers to be a part of a dangerous game so that she can protect her little sister. But the book is also about character development and being a good person.
She is very book smart and spends a lot of her time reading large books. At one point in one of the movies Hermione turns back time to take extra classes that she doesn’t have to because she enjoys learning so much. She is even referred to as “the brightest witch of her age.” Annabeth’s mother, Athena, is the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy, therefore she is inherently wise. Annabeth uses her wits to solve problems quickly in tough situations.
The Harry Potter series have been an interesting series for me ever since I have enrolled in Professor Fox’s class. I personally have not read any of the Harry Potter series during my childhood, but once I have enrolled in Professor Fox’s class I have recently just finished Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Throughout my readings of these two books I have had many observations on certain aspects of the story that I would not have noticed when I was younger. These three aspects that I can’t imagine as a child noticing is how the Dursleys abused Harry, the stance on gender, and prejudgement based on appearance.
Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone by J.k Rowling, portrays many themes during Harry’s years at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. For example, the power of choice and its impact on our wellbeing, on our lives, and on the lives of others. The vital importance of friendship, and family. Family is a very important theme throughout Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Harry only wishes for the family he never knew – his parents – and hates the one he's stuck with – the Dursleys.
The movie series improved as it advanced through the book series. From the first to eighth movie, the three characters Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley started as a kid to teenagers. Their problems started to get more complex as they grew up throughout the movies. Even though the characters as kids were so young, they were able to personify the book characters. Harry Potter and his friends has gained more experience every time they played their role in the movie.
