Every person has their own definition of home. In the story “The Round Walls of Home,” Dianne Ackerman is saying her home is the earth. She uses the word “round” because the earth does not have walls like normal homes, but the walls are the outside of the earth, making it round in shape. When most people describe their home they would mention the color of the walls, what sorts of belongings, and how many rooms. But, Ackerman describes her home as a, “big, beautiful, blue, wet ball.”

The novel, The Glass Castle, shows how the Walls family lived without welfare. Both Rosemary and Rex refused to take charity or government aid despite the children and others pleading them to take it. Rosemary objected to conforming to what the society thought was best. Rex argued that his sporadic income was enough to keep the family afloat. However, the children begged their parents to accept other 's help to ease the financial burden on all of them.

Angel describes women as, “Filling up the house.” Here, Lou Ann is beginning to recognize the strong female bonds between women and. When Taylor and Lou Ann meet, they both gradually encourage each other and they both learn about the importance of family and community. With Taylor's encouragement and example, Lou Ann becomes more self-confident. With this confidence, Lou Ann rejects Angel and becomes an independent woman.

As a young african american male, I’ve encountered many challenges and obstacles that has been tough to overcome for any male; especially male of color. “I know that I am a destroyer of the most precious thing, which is life”. This quote was from Patricia Krenwinkel. Patricia Krenwinkel had an important role in the Manson trials because she stabbed Abigail Folger countless of times and then later on she stabbed Rosemary LaBianca with a carving fork to death. She was found guilty of murder and they gave her the death sentenced, but the judge overruled it so she got life in prison. It has been 46 years since the murder of the Manson family.

In Stephen King’s memoir, On Writing, he expresses dozens of opinions on his craft and provides a compilation of writing preferences for an audience of readers and aspiring writers alike. Jeannette Walls, the author of the memoir The Glass Castle, seemingly displays similar writing preferences to those of Stephen King. Specifically, Walls and King both leave out unnecessary words, they both use dialogue as a characterization tool, and they both believe in writing honestly. When Jeannette’s mom gives birth to her fourth child; named Maureen, Jeannette says to her, “I promised her I’d always take care of her” (46). She promises to take care of Maureen, and to take care of her Jeannette has to keep motivated and hope for the best, but also remain dedicated and try her hardest. Making that promise shows Jeannette is mature and she will accomplish whatever is possible for Maureen. As life moves on, Jeannette wants to feel like she knows what is going on in the world, “But a newspaper reporter… I decided I wanted to be one of the people who knew what was really going on” (204).

LaRosa did was to build a trusting rapport with Almeada, taking time to learn about her culture and environment making her feel like her life mattered. Almeada moved to a new neighborhood after baby Anne was born, started working long hours to support her and baby Anne but struggled with no social or human services support and is depressed and feels hopeless about her current situation, having to leave baby Anne with a 10-year-old 6 day a week, she knows this is not acceptable. She reaches out to Ms. LaRosa, Ms. LaRosa knows social care, social control and rehabilitative services are needed, since Almeada is only 17, and has no family support, she needs help with child care, parenting skills, along with being able to work on her vocational skills. Using her networking and teaming skills she finds Almeada and baby Anne a case manager in her new neighborhood, she found Hernando Alvarez, a case manager in the child services division of the state department of human service, Almeada would now have the support team she need to help her, and baby

“The Cardboard Room” by Teresa Pitman is about a teenage girl who comes from a judgmental family. Particularly, they are not fond of a refugee family, who according to them do not belong. When assigned to work on a project with a member of the family, Eric Nye, she begins to understand how someone’s appearance does not define who they truly are. After spending more time with Eric and his family she quickly realizes that people should not be judged and criticized for their circumstances. Eric informs the protagonist about events that happened back home and the struggles it took to get where they are today.

Jeannette’s life was hell from the time she was born until she grew up and started realizing what she wanted to do and that was to be successful. Jeannette gets asked if she owes her success as a child or did she become a women because of her childhood. Jeannette became the women she is because of her childhood no in spite it these are the reasons why? Her Education from her parents are not school, the freedom they had, and hardship. Her education I think changed a lot she went to school , But she knew sooner or later they would move again, without her dad she wouldn’t be able to know as much information as she did going to school

Although she went and work in the factory to help out her sister Ana did not give up on her dream of attending college. Without her mother knowing and help from her high school teacher she began to fill out college and scholarship applications. After finally being accepted into the University of Columbia, Carmen takes a stand and make Ana to but her family before college. Ana has more curves than her mother would like her to have. Carmen thinks just because Ana is “fat” she will not be able to find a husband.

After Jeannette got a job in New York as a writer, she would attend parties, art galleries, and etc. When people ask about her background and parents, Jeannette doesn’t tell the exact truth because she felt embarrassed about her parents. She also didn’t want to be looked down upon because of her past. Maureen, Jeannette’s baby sister, left for California after getting out of jail for stabbing her mother. Jeannette felt guilty and sorry for not being able to give Maureen the life she had wanted.

The Walls family lived a very out of the ordinary life compared to most families. They lived all over the West side of America from Phoenix to San Francisco. Yet, one of the most important areas they lived in was Battle Mountain. Jeannette spent a huge chunck of her childhood here. Battle Mountain was where she started to grow up, experiencing learning to swim to kissing a boy.

Who is Jeannette Walls? She’s the author of The Glass Castle, a 2005 memoir about growing up with her family most especially with her parents who could be described as nomads and deadbeats. Notwithstanding the difficult upbringing, her siblings and she had, Jeannette perseveres and becomes a successful Journalist living in New York City. She explains how happy, but conflicted because her parents refuse money from her and live as homeless people. She writes the memoir to work through her feelings and share’s her story.

After graduating middle school her friend lost touch with her and eventually left her life for good: “By the time she got to Welch High Dinitia changed.” Jeannette was also sexually harassed by one of her friends in Phoenix while playing hide-and-seek: “Billy smushed his face against mine… ‘Guess what?’Billy shouted. ‘I raped you’” Lastly, while going to school in Phoenix Jeannette was bullied for being smart and skinny: “The other students didn’t like me much because I was so tall and pale and skinny and always raised my hand too fast… A few days after I started school, four Mexican girls followed me home and jumped me in an alleyway…”
