The 18th century was the golden age of piracy. Piracy was a common crime, and prevented many ships from reaching their destination with the cargo they set sail with. Many of these pirates reached such a level of infamy that their names have evolved into legends. Among these names are pirates like Captain Kidd, Black Bart, and possibly the most infamous of all, Blackbeard. Blackbeard, also known as Edward Teach, was a character that would strike fear into the hearts of his victims.

Today, Christopher Columbus is primarily viewed as an important historic figure and a hero for his famous voyages in the 1400’s. However, many people to this day still debate whether he should be known as a hero or a villain. In my opinion, Christopher Columbus should not be considered a hero. A hero is somebody who performs good deeds for the sake of others, and not for their own benefit. Christopher Columbus just wanted to find gold and riches for himself and the country of Spain.

Columbus was not born into the richest family but he was able to teach himself on how to sail and navigate the sea just by working on boats at a very young age. He was a man that worked very hard to earn the rank of captain of the seas, with this rank he became famous in European and American history and change the meaning of sailing.
