Before the industrial revolution though Africa was hard to capture and conquer fully, this was due to serval reasons the main reasoning being diseases (conquerors would die from diseases before they could explore far into this content). With the industrial revolution though explorations had better ships to explore up that lead into central Africa, they had better guns to kill Africans with; which made exploration into Africa even easier and soon came the discovery of the cinchona tree that contained quinine that prevented malaria. In time Africa became divided and conquered by serval European nations, which meant that African political power would shift to the nation that conquered them and that the society and people would be treated as slaves to produces a much raw resources for Europeans to sell and make

European countries tried to civilize Africa and succeeded in their movement on trying to imperialize them but only lead the Europeans to making a profit and nothing for the African workers. The only independent African states were Ethiopia and Liberia, the rest was ruled over strong European nations, like Britain and France. European nations ruled over Africa from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s, King Leopold was one of the most notorious rulers over the African estates, Leopold ruled over the Congo free state and was considered to be one of the richest near his death. What motivated European nations to imperializing Africa were, money, resources, and nationalism.     

For instance, in the 1800s, the Rifle gun, “a fast-loading gun used to fire multiple shots”, was invented (Doc C). The gun was a faster weapon that could be used from a distance instead of close combat. It could be used to stop riots and shut down any resistance from the natives. The Industrial Revolution can be credited for the inventions and discoveries of the Steam engine, Quinine, the Telegraph, Bessemer Process, Maxim Gun, the Rife gun, and etc. (Doc C).

“No African delegates were present. Simply put, the European powers agreed to recognize any areas that were already occupied to being developed by other European nations. Because of this, there was a big push to the interior of Africa by competing European Armies, as they all rushed to establish…legitimate claims on areas not occupied by other European powers.” This really struck me because it shows they didn’t care about the African people at all, in fact they could care less. Imperialism took place in Great Britain in the late 1800’s. After a short while it began to gradually spread throughout Europe and this was a very important factor of the colonization of Africa. There was plenty of motivation for Europeans to conquer the world, and while some supported it, others didn’t. One would expect a man like Primrose to defend the decisions with excuses such as, Africa being a better place to populate but instead he expresses the truth of the matter that the main motivation behind the acquisition of African colonies was an expansion of their own

Best Answer: well african rulers didnt have such strong support against imperialism as the muslims did.....muslims didnt want to be conquered by the western countries but they wanted to modernize without western rule..... so they fought for there lands....... but the many african rulers almost gave control to the western countries.... there was one country that revolted against imperial rule and it was Ethiopia..... although it was in independent rule they still modernized to improve there military and education..... -Same-

During the time when European imperialism was beginning, Great Britain was undergoing their industrial revolution. When Britain had colonized parts of Africa, they realized that there was an abundance of natural resource that they could exploit. By taking resources from African colonies and turning it into products in Britain, they were able to boost their economy. Document D and E prove how Great Britain was able to make

The United States and Japan were also imperialist powers; however, neither was involved in colonizing Africa. Economical, political, and social causes were the roots of imperialism. Economical causes included materials and markets. Materials were a cause as countries wanted to depend on themselves for raw materials.

This increase in empire brought much pride to Europeans and increased nationalism. The European people saw the increase in colonisation as a good thing and it gave them a reason to feel superior to the countries with fewer colonies to their own. This then encouraged rival nations to join in the race for colonisation to compete with the other nations. The nations with the most colonies were considered to be superior and therefore brought European countries to fight for colonies more to win the hearts of their people and of the people from other countries. Because of the pride and nationalism that this brought, political parties would use the promise of colonisation to win votes during elections.

People who share a common history should create an independent nation. In Cecil Rhodes “Confession of Faith,” the imperialist author his views and preferences on nationalism. During this time period, Africa was in a state where it could be taken over by Britain, due to the lack of a strong government. Rhodes envisions this opportunity “to seize every opportunity of acquiring more territory.” This act is the result of imperialism, but not nationalism.
