During the beginning of the new country known as America. Many of our founding presidents who helped build our country and set many precedents for following presidents to follow.Which include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe’s leadership on political policies created and strengthened the still growing nation. George Washington’s presidency had a great effect on the future government, as well as on America’s actions at the time. He made some great decisions. The nation was just starting out at the time, and he had to choose which actions would be best for both the current time and the future. He had to set an example through wars, rebellions, and treaties, preserving our country along with his own opinions.I know one of George Washington’s greater achievements was during the Whiskey Rebellion. He was the first man to send his own army after U.S. citizens at this time. The farmers were killing tax collectors in protest of the whiskey taxes, and George Washington believed it wasn’t an appropriate method of protest. I think this was a great achievement because Washington set an example by showing the citizens not to go against the government’s …show more content…
Citizens from the South refused to pay bonds that should have been paid for by the North, so the nation’s capital was moved from New York City to a place that would be more convenient for both areas, and close to the Potomac River. This was a great achievement because it pleased both areas in the nation at the time, and provided a capital that seemed even more convenient overall. One of George Washington’s final achievements was included in his farewell speech. George Washington mentioned that he didn’t want there to be a division between the two
So, Washington helped set up the new government, he was elected as the first president.
During the “New Nation” time period, there were five overall presidents that had some sort of impact on the nation known as the United States of America. George Washington was the first president and the leader of the American revolution that started this entire thing. He, himself, had overall the most impact on the States. There was a reason why during the election of 1789 he got 100% of all the votes. Washington was known for his drive.
In general, the people were angry at Washington for making them seem like a vulnerable weak nation, especially because it was in front of
When the country called upon him, unanimously electing him to the presidency, he stated: ”’ My movements to the chair of government, will be accompanied by feelings not unlike those of a culprit, who is going to the place of his execution, embarking the voice of the people, and a good name of my own, on this voyage; but what returns will be made for them, Heaven alone can foretell’" (Ibid., XI, 379-80). Although he didn’t want to lead this country, Washington understood the country needed a strong leader, like him. Given his military background, he wanted to unify the country under one strong leader.
Throughout American history, there have been numerous shifts and changes in politics and in the government. From the time George Washington was sworn into office in 1789 to Andrew Johnson’s assumption of presidency in 1808, one of the most prominent changes is the transformation of the presidential power and interpretation of the Constitution. As time goes on, the influence of the president gradually expands and evolves from a tightly constrained role into a significantly powerful position. The authority of the president grows along with the expansion of the nation's prosperity and prestige in the world. During the Revolutionary War in the late 18th century, the Founding Fathers created America and established a new system of governing.
Mayor Washington had a lot to try to overcome in his first three years of his term. He was being opposed at virtually every turn and everything that he tried to do by a group of white aldermen. Never wanting to give up, he did all he could to
Nathanael Greene said “ He is the deliverer of his own country” (386). People were proud to be Americans due to George Washington's outstanding
Washington was America’s first president. However, not only was he voted in once, but was successful in his run for reelection (Adler, 173-190). In all, Washington served two terms, and, what is an accomplishment in itself, did not run for a third term. As David A. Adler stated, “Many seek power, but few voluntarily relinquish it” (189). Washington was able to succeed in relinquishing power, ignoring any thirst or greed for power he might have had.
Even though George Washington had inherited his father’s slaves when he was just eleven-he still viewed slavery as a conflicting factor. He knew that it would be hard to abolish slavery at the time since some states were considered slaves states. If the issue arose any more the states who still had slaves could have walked away from the convention to start their own pro-slavery constitution (PBS). The issue of slavery needed to be discussed separately with a compromise. Washington hoped that slavery would be eliminated as soon as a stronger union had been formed
“He was involved twice in Germantown 's contribution to American history” (George Washington, 2013). Washington stopped the decimation of the nation’s capital by coming up with a permanent place safe from attacks, favoritism, and disease. “One challenge came from the national debt. Fighting and for and gaining independence did not come cheap and the amount of debt that the new nation faced was staggering” (George Washington, 2013). He faced many challenges during his presidency from paying back war debts.
George Washington was instrumental in the winning of the revolutionary war. He might have owned slaves but without him our country would be different today. What many people don’t know is Washington struggled with slavery his entire life but he could not legally free his slaves until Martha and himself had both died. In his will he left a not saying once Martha died that all of the slaves at Mount Vernon would be emancipated.
Some judges actually changed their way with Washington’s speeches in Atlanta, with Washington’s writing, speaking to the president on the issue, and with his movement in his school
George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and James Monroe were the first five presidents of the United States and the people who led America to success during a time of great conflict. These presidents helped shape America into what it is today. Without their problems during their presidencies and then solving them, no one knows where America would be. For example, why did President Madison go to war, in 1812, unlike all of the previous and future presidents. Washington wanted to stay neutral during his presidency, so he completely avoided war with foreign countries.
He believed in taking responsibility for your condition, and proving that you are not inferior by working hard getting a job and becoming financially stable. Washington believed in working hard and that ¨No race can prosper till it learns that there is as much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem. It is at the bottom of life we must begin, and not at the top. Nor should we permit our grievances to overshadow our opportunities¨ (Textbook p.4). Washington told African Americans to be thankful for the progress made and hopeful for the future.
Out of the three that are listed here I think that his part in the American Revolution was the most important. Without him we wouldn’t have a leader, nor would we have continued to fight on. This was the first step to our new nation and without him we would have given up/still be under British rule. People like Washington have given people a voice and has motivated them throughout the years. He had kept our hopes up whenever we felt the need to give up and because of his role/actions we are our own
