How Did Ida B Wells Affect The Civil Rights Movement

Civil rights demonstrates that all people, no matter what race, religion, color or class, are equal and have equal rights. Although the civil rights time period is a subject that is not talked about much today, it was years ago when there was a lot of segregation and discrimination. There were many African Americans who made a difference in their fight for civil rights, but not many white people tried to make that same difference. Jane Addams was one of the few white people who made this effort; she had an even bigger impact on civil rights since she was female and wealthy, along with her skin color. Jane Addams got involved in promoting civil rights because she grew up around many sophisticated adults that also supported it.

The causes of the Progressive era were unsafe working conditions. The progressive era was trying to progress forward and make things better and safer. One very important thing the progressive era did was make working conditions safer and that is what ida tarbell did for the standard oil company. Ida tarbell noticed the unsafe working conditions and fixed it. Ida tarbell had a huge impact on the progressive era and how we live today.

During the 1800’s, those who saw social prejudice or corruption started many reform movements to correct the difficulties in America. The Second Great Awakening really helped shape the United States into a religious nation and paved the way through the reform movements, while stressing individual choice that caused an uprising in denominations leading to followers by the masses. Antislavery abolitionism became a movement mostly because of influence from the religious revival that was taking place, and demonstrating to all of those religious that slavery is a sin. Reformists of the antislavery movement transformed their thoughts forward of equality to all people, no matter their race.

Harriet Tubman was born in 1820 in Maryland. She was born into slavery, so there are no exact records of when, and where exactly she was born (American Library). Her birth name was Araminta Ross, but was shortly after nicknamed Minky, and later on Harriet (history.com). Her life at home wasn’t the best, nor the easiest. She had work and a job 24/7.

during the civil rights movement there was a lot of chaos going on. People back then were treated differently due to segregation. The african american people tried fighting for their rights to have the same equality as the white people had. any african american tried making history by either going to an all white school or getting their rights to vote.

Ida B. Wells is someone made of fiery bravery and courage. Someone who was brave enough to speak out about huge issues when it was dangerous to do so, despite such high stakes. Ida B. Wells has taught me to be extremely brave, and to fight for what’s right no matter how much hate you get for it. Hold your ground and get your point across. I am just so grateful that men and women that fought as hard as Ida B. Wells existed to shape the world we live in

Between 1877 (End of Reconstruction) and the 1950’s (Beginning of the Civil Rights Movement) African Americans went through immense hardships. They had to fight numerous times in order to gain their rights and even be counted as “human”. During the Harlem Renaissance many African Americans arose and found ways to create and show what they were going through.

Take for example, Harriet Tubman she is individual that persevered and showed her resilience despite of being born into slavery, for 29 years Tubman was a slave in a Plantation in Maryland. Before escaping, Tubman suffered through family hardships and personal sickness. When she finally escaped to Pennsylvania a free state, she went on to become one of the greatest abolitionist of the 19th century. Tubman role in the underground railroad was as a conductor, she went on to free her family and hundreds of other people through the underground network of safe houses. In addition to being a leader of the underground railroad, Tubman worked with the Union Army as a cook, nurse, scout and even as a spy during the Civil war.

Ella Baker is often overlooked as a Civils Rights leader because she worked for organization with strong male leaders. Baker led by example and always advocated for equality. She pushed for inclusion of all people in the civil rights movement, encouraged others to join the movement, and treated others with respect and appreciation. Ella Baker played a prominent role in the fight for

" Parks, who had lost her job and experienced harassment all year became known as 'the mother of the civil rights movement' " (Bio). From her many speeches and appearances she made, many people started to recognize her and supported her on the messages she was trying to get across. "I would like to be remembered as a person who wanted to be free.... so other people would also be free"(woman history).

Rosa parks follows another woman, Claudette Colvin. Claudette did do exactly the same thing as Rosa, but she was pregnant at the time so the NAACP though she didn’t have the ability to stand up on her own. Colvin, Parks, Lafayette, Emeagwali, Fuller, Malcolm X, and Bridges are just a couple of the great african-american heroes. Rosa Parks is a influence on all people. She shows everyone that if they stand up in what the believe in they can do all things, even if there are consequences.

Introduction: The civil rights movement of 1954-1968 has made a huge impact on the history of African-American equality. All the great leaders of the movement have gone down in history for their courageous work and outstanding commitment to the civil rights movement. One of the most famous of the activists was Martin Luther King Junior (1929-1968) . King is still remembered today for his legendary speech entitled “I had a dream”.
