During the years that led up to World War 1, many factors took place that potentially caused the war to occur, especially in the continent of Europe. In the Balkan peninsula, a belief called nationalism caused lots of chaos and tension between the nations (OI). Prideful Balkan countries would battle amongst themselves to prove their dominance as a culture. On top of this, countries formed alliances, creating an intricate alliance system that stretched throughout most of 20th century Europe

Major reasons that the First World War started in Europe (1914) World War I occurred between July 1914 and November 11, 1918. By the end of the war, over 17 million people were being killed including over 100,000 American troops. The reason why war erupted is actually much more complicated than a simple list of causes. There are some chain of events that directly led to the fighting. Among all the reasons, let us highlight on the top and main five reasons/causes that led to World War I in Europe (1914).

Germany also took rather outrageous measures to defend their fellow ally. As displayed in the chart of per capita expenditures of the Great Powers on armaments, growth of Germany’s military spending far surpassed that of other nations by a whopping 540%, or increasing by almost seven U.S. dollars in the years leading up to the war (Document 1). Such an increase on military spending raised suspicion that war would be initiated among the European powers. As tensions escalated, these excessive actions taken by the Central Powers would transform Serbia’s revolution

The expansion of armies and militarism was a leading cause of World War 1. Although several forces created tension among the nations of Europe, militarism was the most significant for pushing countries into war. Each country that fought in the war was planning on obtaining better military strength and forces. Militarism would allow countries to develop, and if they were lucky enough, they would acquire more land. Milltirims also united the country as a whole.

During the 20th century in European nations, countries fought amongst each other in the First World War. The causes of this war and disputed upon to this day, but three of the causes are definitely: The concept of the countries already prepared for war, the strong sense of nationalism, and the prominent amount of national power. All throughout Europe, even in the days of peace before the war, the countries were prepared to fight each other. Individuals saw war as a necessity for life itself (Doc 1). Most nations talked about fighting, but never really acted.

The European powers did not make any active effort for more internationalist/cooperative policy that would have been the antithesis for the growing causes of World War I. It would only be after World War II and to some extent the European Union that would encourage Europeans to work together instead of turning the continent into a wasteland every few decades. Firstly, I would argue nationalism is the starting point for World War I. During the Industrial revolution, nationalism became an important driving force in European countries to industrialize and make technological progress.

Before the start of World War One there were many things that had contributed to starting it, the most immediate cause that started it would be the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. When the war was coming to an end and Germany was losing they had to surrender due to certain factors such as the British blockade and their untrained army with low resources. The causes that began World War One were things like Alliances between countries, growing armies, and the major cause and start to the War: the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. The main alliances were the Triple Entente (Allies) and the Triple Alliance (Axis).

Main causes of WW1 World war one or the Great War was one of the most harsh and worthless battle between nations. Many people did not achieve anything or archive any land during the war and still over 10 million people were killed. Many countries were already on their tippy toes and ready to fight. There was a lot of tension between countries for a few different reasons. The tensions cause these countries to go against each other even more and really strive and achieve what they want, simply because they want to prove that they are the best and most powerful.

Leading up into World War I, America was an isolationist country. Just before the United States declared war they had desperately tried to stay neutral, but ties to Britain, propaganda, the sinking of the Lusitania by Germans, and a German attempt in the Zimmermann telegram to get Mexico to declare war on America pushed them to get involved. Try as they might, the American government could not stay isolationist, and in turn upheld the founding ideals of democracy as they marched on into the war. There was no doubt that entering the war was the wish of the public; therefore the United States was upholding democracy. When American lives were lost, nationalism seeded the country with anger.

During the period of time before the outbreak of World War 1, there was extreme growth in the military as well as improvement in military weapons. After the Crimean war and other conflicts in the time, people were able to study war and develop many improvements and new weapons. One of the most important improvements was the change that made long range artillery more accurate and deadly and the creation of deadly gasses to be used in war. Militaries were also growing faster than ever. Both the armies of France and Germany doubled between the time of 1970 and 1914.

According to alphahistory.com “Imperialism is a system where a powerful nation controls and exploits one or more colonies”. Toward the end of the 1800s, several imperial powers existed. The British empire was the largest. Both France and Britain had many colonies in Africa and Asia.

The Causes of the First World War Carmen There were quite a few causes of the first world war (WW1). The long-term causes were the militarism, alliance system, imperialism and nationalism- MAIN. The short-term cause was the fact that Austria-Hungary blamed Serbia for killing Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife. I personally think the most significant cause to WW1 is the alliance system and here, I will justify why I think like this. I think the most significant cause of WW1 was the alliance system.
