How Do Baby Boomers Affect The Nation

The Greatest Generation, is an astonishing book written by Tom Brokaw. The “Greatest Generation” is based on children who grew up during this generation while the Deep Depression was going on and who became adults during World War 2. There are strong reasons as to why Tom Brokaw considerers this generation great. The children, adults, and seniors all took part of making the generation great, most kids and teens and adults took an initiative of putting their own life aside to fight in the war, this generation had to be the be the greatest, by far. I state this, because this generation was forced to go through so many life changing events like the Great Depression, then had to face War for six years.

Following WWII, the United States enter a time that would be called the Baby Boom. From 1946 to 1964 over 76 million babies were born in the United States. At the time babies made up around 40 percent of the American population. This changed the United States in a major way. Most historians believe that many families had babies because they were final out the Great Depression and can final afford to take care of it.

She uses stereotypes as one way to prove how predecessor generations feel about millennials, stating that they are just narcissistic, self-absorbed, opinionated, whiny individuals who are uneducated, lack focus and are not responsible (Ellin 205). The main rivalry is between the baby boomers and the millennials because they have opposing perspectives and characteristics. “Millennials have self-confidence and assuredness, and these characteristics can be off-putting to people in older generations who feel that because of their age and experience young people should be more deferential towards them”, says Julie Coates, an adult-learning specialist in River Falls, Wisconsin (Ellin 208).

“The Beat (Up) Generation: Millennials’ Attitudes about Work” is an article written by Abby Ellin and published in Psychology Today. It talks about the generation born between 1982 and 2004, how they react to working around the older generation and why they are hated by the older generation. The millennial generation was born during the rise of technology. They can do a lot of work remotely and not have to work as hard because of all the technology they have access to and the boomer generation doesn’t understand it they equate working hard with time and physical work. The boomers feel that millennials are just lazy and have no respect.

After World War 2 until about 1956, the baby boomers had an impact in the Canadian society in many ways. The major impacts were, more marriages, which resulted a birthrate increase, also an economic impact on the aging population. Firstly, the increase in marriage was one of the major impacts in the Canadian society. The larger majority of young couples married, had children during their first year of marriage.

Every step that was taken in the past leaves behind a footprint in the future. In 1946, after the World War 2 was over, the economy raised and soldiers returning from war began to start their families which resulted in increased birthrates. The term used to describe the period of increased birthrates from 1946 and 1965 is known as Baby Boom. The people born during the baby boom period are known as ‘Baby Boomers’. This generation is yet the largest generation in Canada.

Children of post war America are the most effective demographic gathering ever. Organizations flourishes or comes up short in light of their capacity to keep pace with the preferences and aversions of this financial powerhouse known as the people born after WW2. At 76 million in number, boomers have the impact to control the commercial center and ensure they keep a spot set only for them as the biggest era. Because of its substantial size, the Baby Boom era has significantly affected society, business, and the economy. The effect of the era has been felt in every aspect of buyer spending, from expanded offers of child items when they were youthful; to rising interest for houses as they set up their own particular family units; to development in retirement funds vehicles as they get ready for their senior years.

With every new generation of teenagers or young adults, there always seems to be this negative look towards the youth culture. What really strikes me is that it happens with every new generation. It seems like once a person hits their teenage years they suddenly become “rebels” of society, and for what reason? How do most adults see the younger generation? They are young people who have bad manners, no respect for the elderly, they are real tyrants, they do not stand up when elders walk in, they do not listen to their parents or teachers, they talk in the presence of adults, and they eat gluttonously (Socrates).

Baby boomers challenge the stereotypes about aging is that they do not want to retire at the age of 60 years old. They already know that the economy has changed and therefore money is not available for a lengthy retirement. The average baby boomer today is more active than a person would think that they are active. They take a important role in exercise and are open to new ideas. Examples of families in later life that dispel negative myths on aging is the fact that people are living longer.

Young people often do not know the importance of Social Security except the fact that it is used often for identification purposes. In recent years there has been a lot of talk surrounding the Social Security system and the current crisis that it is facing. Of course there are many possible solutions to combat this crisis, but none without their faults.

The Canadian population is made up of several, diverse generations, the baby boom generation is the most defining, and most significant of all. The baby boom is a sudden rise in the number of labours. When an unexpected fall in the amount of labours is identified it is considered over. The soldiers coming back from World War II were racing to arise their families which resulted in the Baby Boom. Why was the baby boom the most defining and significant moment in Canadian history?

But wait were not the baby boomers the generation of “the pre-AIDS years of free love, the free education, the happy dilettantish flirtations with radicalism,….. the big cars, the enduring sense of smugness”(Hawking). Furthermore, now they have the nerve to accuse their kids for their repercussions. The millenials are the general population who having to experience the “hangover from the baby boomers party”(Hawking). Millenials are drowning in college debt and having to pay off liabilities that the baby boomers generation created.
