How macbeth and lady Macbeth change throughout the story. They both changed very differently especially macbeth because he turned not to be himself. Lady Macbeth was still herself and wasn't herself. How they change is in the beginning of the story macbeth was cool person not as savage like his wife when it came down to killing the king he wasn't so sure and lady macbeth was very sure about it .

Lady Macbeth is a loving wife and full of ambition in the play. When Macbeth learns about the three prophecies, he tells Lady Macbeth about them, demonstrating how she fully supports him. In comparison to Macbeth, Lady Macbeth shows no guilt. This is shown when she says, “A foolish thought, to say a sorry sight,”, “A little water clears us of this deed,” and “These deeds must not be thought.” While Macbeth’s first reaction to Duncan’s death is to call it a ‘sorry sight’, Lady Macbeth immediately dismisses him, she does so again multiple times throughout the scene. Lady Macbeth, while her husband is stricken with guilt and horror, takes control over their relationship and scolds him for feeling remorse. She shows her authority over him in this scene and goes against the typical Jacobean ideal for women at the time.

She struggles with the notion that she had a hand in King Duncan's murder. She did not want to murder King Duncan herself because she saw her father in him. This caused her to force Macbeth to do the deed himself. When he failed to plant the weapons on the guards, Lady Macbeth had no other option but to go and do it herself. This caused her to see King Duncan dead in his bed and get her hands dirty with his blood.

Parts where she genuinely feels guilty. Even though Lady Macbeth is a strong, cruel, and cold-blooded character in the play, she does feel remorse. In Act 3, Lady Macbeth starts to feel guilty of what she has done to Duncan. She pulls Macbeth from dinner and tells him how guilty she is feeling. As a result, Lady Macbeth starts the play out feeling confident and she is perfectly fine with the plan of murdering Duncan with her husband.

She feels that they can simply disregard what they have done in pursuit of the crown. Shakespeare later reveals that this is not the case, the blood that both Lady Macbeth and Macbeth have spilled leaves deep stains in their lives that they cannot get rid off.

Macbeth being innocent in the beggining, changed to evil, and Lady Macbeth, who was evil in the beginning, wanted to be good in the end. She makes it seem like it is simple to get rid of the thought that he just murdered the King by just washing the blood. While Macbeth inside is suffering from his guilt Lady Macbeth makes seem so effortless and acts like nothing happened. The thought questioning herself of what action she forced her husband to do or get involved in never crosses her mind. She gives him false hope on stating that everything will be fine if he just goes and washes all the blood and act absent-mindedly. Shakespeare is showing that “ cannot commit such crime without undergoing terrible inner torment and triggering self-defeating behavior”( Paris) shows that it is the less external consequences of his crime than the internal deterioration.

By the end of the play Lady Macbeth became crazy and out of her right state of mind. Her gentlewoman and doctor started to voice concerns about her very odd behavior and discussed that she had a very serious disturbance in her nature. Lady Macbeth was guilt ridden and finally started to crumble. Duncan’s blood started to haunt her, the gentlewoman explained that she would be seen washing her hands for a quarter of an hour mumbling about getting all of the spots of blood off her hands. These actions prove that she was also trying to convince herself to not feel guilt after Duncan’s murder when talking to Macbeth because she was so desperate to wipe the murder off of her own hands.

At first Lady Macbeth did not feel any guilt until things begin to get carried away. Sleepwalking, Lady Macbeth is heard saying, “Here's the smell of blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. ”(5:1:53-55) and“ Out damned spot, out, I say”(5.1.37). Lady Macbeth is saying these things because she is visualizing that there is blood still on her hands representing her extreme guilt because she knows what she did not was wrong.

On many occasions she rules her husband and dictates his actions. Although near the end of the play Lady Macbeth’s personality and strength begins to deteriorate. Later committing suicide after having many detailed memories and thoughts from the murder. Shakespeare not only shows how guilt can change a person’s personality but he also portrays untraditional gender roles.
