How Has Softball Changed Over The Years

Major League Baseball started in 1869, the first MLB baseball team was started in Cincinnati. The first official game of baseball in the United States took place in June 1846 in Hoboken, New Jersey. In 1869, the Cincinnati Red Stockings became America’s first professional baseball club. In 1871, the National Association of Professional Baseball Players was established as the sport’s first “major league.” The MLB has gone through many transitions of talent and skill levels.

The evolution of baseball like many other evolutions of our time has been drastic and is continuing as we speak. Prior to 1940 baseball had many rule changes, equipment modifications, and strategy innovations. To name just a few pitchers were banned from “soiling” a ball in 1908, shin guards were introduced in 1908, in 1920 all “freak” deliveries were outlawed such as the spitball, and in 1925 pitchers were first allowed to use a resin bag. These new changes in baseball were just a few of the many events and rule changes that occurred prior to the 1940’s. The first rule change that I will write about is the 1920 rule where umpires were required to change the ball out of the game when it became dirty and how the spitball and other quirky pitches

Abner Doubleday in his early 20s was the man who invented the game commonly known as baseball. In Cooperstown, New York, during the summer of 1839, Abner then brought up the idea of a ball being batted by a bat. He then went on to be Civil war hero, leaving Baseball behind not knowing it would be America’s beloved pastime. Baseball as defined in the dictionary, “a ball game played between two teams of nine on a field with a diamond-shaped circuit of four bases.” This definition however does not cover the lengths and difficult regulations the game contains.

Unfortunately, numerous individuals confuse baseball and softball to be quite similar, but the two sports are extremely diverse. If one is a male, one will play baseball and if one is a female, one will play softball. Dissimilarities in baseball and softball include: pitching, the bat, and the game, but these dissimilarities are also somewhat similar. The similarities are where one could get reasonably confused with the two sports. The pitching performance is perhaps the most observable dissimilarity between baseball and softball.

When the sport was played in war encampments, the teams were conceived purely off of a soldier’s skill and not military rank. Baseball became so serious in the American Civil War that every company had their own baseball

The Newest Pitcher! POP! The sound of the softball in the glove brought a smile to my face! I threw on my dark green softball uniform, not knowing that today I was going to be the newest softball pitcher on the team! Being a softball pitcher was tough at first, but every day that I had practiced, I got better and better.

Back in the day baseball players would wear therepants up and have certain socks they would wear underneath there pants. The New York Yankees were the popularity in baseball in the 1990's, because at that time they were winning the world series. There biggest rivalry back then were the Boston Red Sox. They have played so many games against each other and have been in many fights.

The size of a softball field is 7,200 ft2  whereas the size of a baseball field is 16,700 ft2. When balls come off the bat in softball, the velocity is up to 100 mph. A softball player has less time to react from an infield line drive (0.61 seconds) than a tennis player does from a Serena Williams serve (0.65 seconds). When fielding grounders an infielder has to get the ball to first in less than 3.2 seconds which is over a second faster than a typical MLB player can reach first. The infield has even less time to react when facing a slap hitter.

The game of softball has changed throughout history in many ways. Many people do not think that softball has ever been an important sport. There are many different levels in the game of softball. The game of softball was invented by a reporter for the Chicago board of trade named George Hancock and a group of young men playing around at a Yale football game on Thanksgiving day in 1887. It started when a young man from Yale threw a boxing glove at a Harvard man as he hit it away with the end of a broomstick which gathered the two and started an illuminati.

You can play softball just about anywhere. If someone is at a cookout and very bored, then you could get a glove and a ball and pass. Throwing the ball is one of the most important motions you do in softball, so it’s good to practice every chance you get. Softball can help you get stronger and it can build up endurance by running. It’s a sport with a great history, so your parents and grandparents and so on, could have played softball or baseball.

At first you might not think you’re good but you can get better. That was my reasoning on why you should play softball. Along with some facts about the sport. A lot of girls play the sport and I hope that you will too.

Baseball is considered by many to be America’s favorite pastime. Softball in many aspects is similar to baseball but in reality it is harder to play. This can be shown in all aspects of the game from hitting to pitching to fielding to catching. One major aspect where the difference is obvious is hitting. I had just knocked in two RBI (run batted in). From the chalked-up dirt to the fresh cut grass, a softball field is always a place I love to be. No matter where I am in life I can always rely on softball to make me feel better. I started this physical activity in 5th grade. I found out that I love the sport and was exceptional at it.

A softball field is very simple. It has this red tinted dirt, fresh cut green grass, 4 white bases, freshly white chalked lines, and a group of girls that love the game. Baseball and softball are sports with the same background. The two sports are known to be the same by people who do not play either of them. In both sports, there are two teams, one on defense and one on offence, battling for a common number of seven innings to see which team scores the most runs at the end. Although baseball and softball are very similar sports, differences exist such as: the pitching, field setting, and ball differencing. Both baseball and softball pitchers on the defensive side are striving for the same concept and that is to strike out the batter up to bat.
