In april the year of 1992, chris walked alone into the woods of alaska north of Mt.Mckinley .he gave $25,000 that he earned from a college scholarship to a charity . Chris then proceeded to abandon his car and most of his possessions , burned all the money in his wallet and then started a new life for himself. Later down the road chris met three other important individuals wayne westernburg, jan burres ,and ron franz. Chris met wayne westerberg at the beginning of his adventure.

He distanced his family, designed another name, and made another life as Alexander Supertramp. Many individuals call his activities narrow minded and remorseless, yet others trust that while it might have been narcissistic, it was a respectable and vital change for him. By not notwithstanding speaking with his sister, Carine, with whom he was very close, Chris made it very obvious that he would not like to be found. Chris propelled himself all through school; scholastically and physically. At that point later he drove himself to be totally confident in light of the fact that: "… it was vital for him to perceive how free he could be" (Krakauer 125).

HE wanted to get away from society and he meant it. “I don't want to know what day it is or where I am. None of that matters. ” (Krakauer,7) Chris did not want anything to do with the outside world. He was brave enough to go out there, let alone

In August of 1992, a man by the name of Chris McCandless was found dead in a bus located north of Mt. McKinley Alaska, by a group of hunters. The book, Into the wild, is written by Jon Krakauer who takes on the task of finding out who exactly was Chris McCandless. Through the book, we find out about his childhood, his school life and his travels. The book gives us a sense of who he was a person, his childhood life, and his thoughts on the world. Many argue that his death was a suicide but one can argue that his death was exactly the opposite.

All over the world, people read short stories, articles, and any other books. Those having numerous genres to choose from. Some make us question the actions of an individual, some are inspired by he/she, and some kind of angry at the person or character. Into the Wild is one of those books that makes you envision what that person must of gone through to do such a risky, yet adventurous journey alone. Some may or may not have the full picture of why Chris McCandless followed through with his journey.

Respect is very important to Chris, though it is apparent that Chris wanted to be absolutely clear to his parents that they did not have his respect. A short time before Chris vanished from his family’s sight, he wrote to Carine saying that he would “be through with them[his parents] once and for all, forever”(64). The very fact that he knew exactly what he was doing and was not apologetic in the slightest proves that he was quite selfish in terms of his parents as he never looked back. He wanted to escape the life that his parents desperately wanted so that he very carefully calculate his disappearance. Billie McCandless(Chris’s mother) informed Krakauer that Chris had instructed the post office to hold them until August 1, apparently so we wouldn’t know anything was up” (22) When Bille speaks of “them:” she was referencing the numerous letters that her and Walt sent to Chris during the entire summer after Chris graduated from Emory.

Numerous People state that Chris McCandless was a very thoughtless individual who made crazy decisions after graduating college. Yet many people found his actions to be inspiring as he risked his life to flee the hectic world that surrounded him. As Chris was raised in a perfect environment, living in wealthy middle-class, His relationship with his parents was very degenerating especially towards his father after he found out his dad cheated on his mother when he was younger. This ultimately led Chris to begin his trip to Alaska so he can find his true-self and to live life how it's meant to be lived.

Chris Mccandless was intelligent and thoughtful even though he was woefully unqualified. Almost everyone he met on his trip had nothing but good things to say about him. “´It is the experiences, the memories, the great triumphant joy of living to the fullest extent in which real meaning is found. Going into the wild isn't as simple as it seems, you need a desire, or drive, to venture off like Chris McCandless had. Chris McCandless is the main character of the non-fictional book Into The Wild. He went off on an adventure out to Alaska to discover himself, although his journey leads to his death he finds who he really is. Most of his life, he was subjected to seeing his parents fight and argue. He had always wanted to get away from this, as depicted in the movie.

He decides to live simply, like Thoreau, not only retreating into nature, but he also living a purer, simpler life. Without money and material goods, he is truly espousing Thoreau’s views, as he decides to not be beholden to anything. McCandless cuts ties with anything reminiscent to society, clearly viewing it unnecessary to live according to societal norms, as he believes - like Thoreau - that this makes the individual lose sight of what life is supposed to be like. Without any money, McCandless finally feels free. To focus on possessions is wrong, according to McCandless’s borrowed views on life.

Chris spends the majority of his life listening to his elders. He goes to school, get’s good grades, does as he’s told, and then he goes to college. When he graduates he decides that he isn’t happy with his life. He doesn’t believe this is the right path for him to follow. He wants to change his life and himself.

He wasn’t afraid of not coming back alive. So when he went into the wild in Alaska, Chris felt like he was for sure going to come back and publish the book that he has written throughout his journey to show others that taking risks like this is totally okay. Unfortunately for Chris it wasn’t okay. I believe that he did not intend to “kill himself” for going into the wild with basically nothing.

The way I look at him is that he was courageous and adventurous to just go out and follow his dream. This is why I think Chris McCandless is courageous. When Chris burned what money he had left I thought it was courageous because he was trying to get around without money and how hard it would be. By Chris burning his money and trying to brave the world without money show´s that he´s courageous because do you know how hard it is to get around without money?

Chris McCandless was a peculiar young man who explored the wilderness of Alaska. Many people would consider him courageous as he died doing what he loved, on the other hand some feel he was foolish and unprepared. Inspired by literature and seeking escape from his rocky relationship with his family, Chris wanted to live off the land in the cold Alaskan winter. Jon Krakauer explores what led to McCandless’s death and explains the actions that led him into the wild. In my opinion, Chris seemed more foolish than courageous, since he was escaping his problems back home and was highly unprepared for what he was tackling.
