The Jews Darkness Our author Elie Wiesel went through a lot of hardships through his memoir night whether it be sadness, darkness, or cruelty these are just some examples of the hardships he faced. Elie and his father are taken prisoner by the Germans because they are Jews. They face many challenges in the camps and traincarts as the author describes as horrific. The author’s use of foreshadowing in the story reveals the dehumanization within this cruelty and imprisonment memoir.

The noun “Night” is defined as “the time from dusk to dawn when no sunlight is visible” (Night). It is well-known that when the sun goes down, it will come up again in about 12 hours. It is predictable and, will never be any different. The title of Elie Wiesel’s novel, Night functions as imagery but, Wiesel’s night is not defined in the same way that a dictionary says. His night is eternal and hopeless.

The book Night by Elie Wiesel is an incredibly written memoir about his struggle through the Holocaust. I have chosen to look at the motifs in this memoir. A motif is symbol or image that is constantly referred to in the text. In this paper we will focus on the motif of night and it’s significance to the story telling.

What kind of world do we live in? In the book Night, by Elie Wiesel, the reader learns how Jews were treated during the Holocaust, how blind the world was, and how survivors’ lives were forever changed. This book goes through many optical and is a really good book to read and learn about all those things. What would happen if society knew what was actually going on in the world?

“Strawberry Springs” – Vivid Against “A Rose for Emily” When the term “Strawberry Spring” comes to mind, one assumes that it means something pleasant, and almost sweet sounding to the ear. Yet for Stephen King’s short story, “Strawberry Spring,” the phrase becomes a whole different meaning. Dressed in murder and painted with the vivid colors of narration, the short story reflects upon the deception of a false spring in the early beginnings of March 1968. Several themes and ideas appear within the story, and readers receive the messages that are hidden between the lines.

Your walking up a steep, and rugged hill. All your hoping for is to find gold. But, the you hear someone shout, “no gold here, everyone go home.” You drop everything and head back home. For many miners, this story became a reality.

Can point of view change how you develop a character? By using first person point of view, the authors of The Georges and the Jewels and Black Beauty: The Autobiography of a Horse quite effectively develop each character. For example, if the reader did not know that the bit tasted bad and the straps were uncomfortable, he/she may assume that the bit was made for a custom fit for the horse and the mouthpiece tasted like strawberries. First, in The Georges and the Jewels by Jane Smiley, a girl’s father has her ride and train horses even though she think the horses have feelings and don't like the gear and the training. Paragraph 10 states,”...

In 1943, during World War II, there was a mass genocide of the Jewish population. Many people in the concentration camps had lost everything from clothes to family to names. These people who after losing everything, gave up, lost their lives. But those who continued putting one foot in front of the other, made it through to the end. Elie Wiesel, a young boy at the time, has lived to tell the world about his experiences in Auschwitz.

Morris Gleitzman uses the first person viewpoint to reinforce the readers experience of the horror of the Holocaust in World War 2. For example when Felix sees the blood of the Jews who were shot, running in the river, he says "The water 's so red it almost looks like blood. But even with all those gunshots the hunter couldn 't have killed that many rabbits."

Narrative point of view can express a different perspective to the reader by presenting experience, voice, and setting. Perspective is a particular way or attitude of considering events, by whatever character’s point of view the narrator takes. A character’s background and experiences in their life is a key to help the reader relate to the character. Culture may provide more insight about the circumstances, and can change a reader’s perspective, as well as the voice of the narrator - sophisticated or naive.

Frederick Douglass uses point of view to show the love that one embodies. Point of view is used to show the love his mother had for him even from being separated. In the story, Douglass talks about being separated from his mother and father as a child. He barely had seen his mother to really know her and was able to only at night.

Point of view is an essential component of Grendel because it gives us a perspective of how Grendel sees the world. Having the ability to view the story from the eyes of Grendel gives the reader insight into how Grendel thinks, how he sees people, and how people see him. The first person point of view in Grendel reveals a deeper understanding of how isolation can shape one’s existence and change them over time. When Grendel was younger, he was a curious creature who was intrigued but terrified of the outside world. The first person viewpoint of the story allows us to see how the way the humans treated Grendel took away his innocence and isolated him.

Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston is the author of this wonderful and personal memoir Farewell to Manzanar. She was born in Inglewood, California on September 26, 1934 and lived in Ocean Park and Terminal Island with her family up until she was seven. Her father, Ko Wakatsuki, was a fisherman he was a first generation Japanese immigrant who was from “Ka-ke, a small town in Hiroshima-ken, on the island of Honshu” (page 60). From Japan he moved to Honolulu, Hawaii and then to Idaho with Jeanne Wakatsuki’s mom, Rigu Sukai Wakatsuki. Her father had a lot of pride and dignity so when the FBI took him and imprisoned him, because they thought that he was a spy, it really affected him.

In the book “Night” by Elie Wiesel, Elie tells about his dreadful experience as a Jewish prisoner in one of Hitler’s concentration camps. As he realizes all the cruelty he sees in the camps, he starts questioning his faith in God. He slowly starts losing faith/belief in God. The more horrible stuffs that happen to Elie, the more he becomes distant from God and starts showing less devotion towards himself. He began to change the way he was.

A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings Gabriel Garcia Marquez was a Colombian novelist, short-story writer, screenwriter and journalist. Marquez has made many stories but in my personal opinion “A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” is his best one. The point of view for the story is third person point of view. This is a magic realism story which means basically the real world and the fantasy world and mix together.
