People had many opportunities to work during this time. Before the Industrial Revolution children usually grew up and had the same profession as their parents because that’s what their parents taught them. Once the revolution started however, children were able to work in factories, as servants, on farms and etc. During this time, a lot of technology was created but jobs were also cut down. Machines like the spinning jenny were invented, which gave factories the option to cut down on their employees. These inventions were good for factory owners since machines did the same job as the employees at a faster rate and machines don’t get paid. By using machines, factory owners don’t have to worry about anyone getting hurt nor do they have to worry about how crowded their factory is. The Industrial Revolution didn’t only occur in the United States, it also occurred in Britain and Western Europe as well. Meat factories had meat falling onto the floor onto dirt and sawdust.
During the eighteenth and nineteenth century, with the French Revolution, Declaration of Independence, Napoleonic War, and Opium War, none compares to the Industrial Revolution, which completely revolutionized the whole world with new technological advancements. The Industrial Revolution started in Great Britain in the mid-eighteenth century with the improvement of the steam engine. In the 1760, machinery began to take over hand-crafted jobs; for instance, the spinning jenny for clothing and the textile industry. Furthermore, trains now powered by steam engines became more efficient and allowed the building of railroads for transportation. (Blanco “What’s so revolutionary about industry?”)

For one the tenements were vastly overcrowded with poor immigrants who virtually had nowhere else to go. Each unit was cramped and had very little light or ventilation.
Immigrants often had the worst living conditions, second to living on the street. They were in not great parts of town and the neighborhoods were not made to house the amount of people living there. This helps to provide a support system for them. Immigrants had to rely on each other. People living in cities during the 20th century did not live a life that you would want to live.
