Maria Del Carmen Garcia AP Seminar 31 August 2017 Innocent Until Proven Guilty The homicide of Hae Min Lee is intriguing considering how many facts don't add up and the many holes there was and still is in the entire investigation. In the beginning no one knows who did what and who was where? It is hard to recall a day that happened months ago. Let me start by breaking down this case for you. On January 13, 1999, in Baltimore, Maryland Hae Min Lee went missing from her school. Following this event she was murdered and buried in Leakin Park. She was found in a shallow grave at Leakin Park on February 1999. Keep Leakin Park in mind as it is important to the whole case. It was later then know that she was strangled to death on January 1999. Now people started to speculate that her killer was none other than her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed. On February 28, 1999 Adnan Syed was arrested for the murder of Hae Min Lee. This was all from the result of Jay's first testimony with the detectives. Here I will tell you how absurd and inane this “speculation” is and why Adnan Syed was condemned wrongfully and injusticely. Personally I think there is a lot of evidence proving Adnan's innocence which leads me to my next claim. Adnan Syed does in fact deserve a new trial. What led me to this …show more content…
He was connected to the murder of another Korean woman through DNA testing by the name of Annelise Hyang Suk Lee. The connection between this murder and that of Hae’s is that both murders happened to be in the Baltimore area. These murders were only 10 miles apart, and both were killed by strangulation (Dickson). It is hard for me to believe that this is a coincidence since both women killed were Korean, murdered in the same area, and in the same manner. It is surprising to me how more DNA testing was not done on Hae’s body to see if this DNA matched, something that could determine Adnan’s
Undisclosed and Serial, two podcasts, have made Adnan Syed’s case a public phenomenon. This case originated on January 13th, 1999. Hae Min Lee, a senior at Woodlawn High School, was found murdered and buried in Leakin Park about a month later. Adnan and Hae dated and had broken up shortly before the incident took place. This makes Adnan a main suspect in the investigation of her disappearance and murder.
Jay testified he helped Adnan bury Hae’s body in 1999. “Jays first interview with detectives. He tells them Adnan
Who killed Hae min lee? Hae min lee was your typical teenage girl who was then murdered and buried in a park. The park called Leakin Park which is about a seven minute drive from the school she went to. A man named Mr. S, a janitor at Hae's school, found her body in this park while trying to go use the bathroom. Hae's body was found in Leakin Park next to a fallen tree.
On January 13, 1999, in Baltimore, Maryland, Woodlawn High School senior Hae Min Lee disappeared. Her body was later found on February 9, 1999 in Leakin Park. The primary suspect of Hae Lee’s murder by strangulation was her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed. He has been convicted of first degree murder and has served 17 years. Through the testimonies of the many witnesses and other evidence collected, it is evident that Adnan Syed is guilty of Hae Min Lee’s murder, however, this is case has grown very controversial, especially after Serial’s release, and many believe the justice system failed Adnan; the members of our society trust our justice system, it is not always perfect, it has flaws, but it is still expected to carry out its function, to protect the innocent, and every time
There were several pieces of evidence that were not tested which brings up question if they could have helped solve the case. When Officer Ritz is interrogating Mr. S he mentions testing cans and bottles from the crime scene. Sarah states, “He’s bluffing here they never do test.” This quote shows the lack of physical DNA evidence to prove Adnan’s guilt. This is important because the tests could have answered the question we’ve all been dying to know, who killed Hae Min Lee?
Hae Min Lee was an extraordinary girl who had a bright future ahead of her, until she was murdered on January 13. Hae Min Lee was only 18 years old when she was murdered and the person who was charged for her murder was Adnan Syed; Adnan was Hae’s ex boyfriend and was believed to have kill Hae, and there was enough evidence to help prove that he was guilty. However that is not the case for Adnan, because he is innocent and did not kill Hae Min Lee on January 13. The first thing that should be pointed out is about when Adnan found out that Hae had died; he was clearly shown to be very distraught. As described by others they say, “We went inside and Adnan was sitting at the kitchen crying, after a while he said that there had to be a mistake and Hae was still alive…
Ever since i've started listening to Serial, I’ve been hearing all sorts of things from my classmates on whether or not Adnan killed Hae. They've starting questioning everyone in each episode, listening carefully to any detail into who may be the killer, but this story doesn’t have an ending and till this day remains unsolved. Listening to others and what they might say about this case, may have a disagree with the ones that say Adnan is guilty. I believe Adnan Syed is innocent. A murder of Hae Min Lee took place in Baltimore, Maryland on January 13, 1999 and some, including the state, believe that her ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed is guilty for that crime.
Adnan could not have killed Hae. On January 13 Hae Min Lee was last seen around 3:00pm after school and her body was found in a woodsy park on February 9 and was identified two days later. The first suspect for the crime was her ex-boyfriend Adnan who was still attending high school. After the sloppy course of interrogations the jury found him guilty with the murder of Hae. But then what was the evidence that was used to lock Adnan up for his whole life, there was no physical evidence that Adnan killed Hae and secondly none of the stories that Hae's friend make are really truthful to what actually happened mainly referring Jay at this point.
No physical evidence linking Hae's body to Adnan or to the trunk of her car, none documenting that her body spent the first ~7 hrs "pretzeled up in a trunk" (physical evidence actually contradicts this theory), no physical evidence that Jay or Adnan were in Leakin Park that night, no documented attempts to recover shovels, no DNA testing done at time of investigation. Appalling lack of documentation of the burial scene. Based on the podcast Serial stated,”no physical evidence linking Hae’s body to Adnan or to the trunk of her car.” How can we really trust in the word of this fellow person and not outline the events of the day.
Almost 18 years old, a young teenager named Hae Mine Lee disappeared. On February 28, 199 Adnan Syed was arrested for the murder of his seventeen year old ex- girlfriend Hae Min Lee. Hae Min Lee was a senior attending Woodlawn High School located in Baltimore, Maryland. As a young teenager, she enjoyed sports such as lacrosse and field hockey. Sarah Koeing, an american journalist, describes her as smart, beautiful, cheerful and a great athlete.
These people say that since Hae broke up with Adnan and that was enough reason to want her dead. However, Adnan was a smart kid who would realize that killing someone for breaking up with you is not a valid reason. Adnan was not hurt enough to kill Hae; he was devastated when she died and he didn't know about it when he was told. Also, they say that Adnan had enough time to kill Hae. What this opinion fails to take into account is that Asia saw Adnan at the library around the same time of the murder and she was never used in court as an alibi (Koenig, “The Best Defense is a Good Defense”).
Imagine your significant other’s body getting discovered at a park after he/she went missing for about three weeks. This is exactly what happened to Don MacGillivray when his girlfriend Hae Min Lee’s body was found in Leakin park in Baltimore, Maryland in 1999. In the podcast Serial, Sarah Koenig discusses the possibilities of who’s guilty and shows evidence to prove him innocent or guilty. One of the suspected murderers? Hae’s ex-boyfriend Adnan Syed.
Relationships, lies, murder, conviction. These are all aspects that come into play when talking about the January 13th, 1999 murder of high school student Hae Min Lee. Adnan Syed, Hae’s 17-year-old ex-boyfriend was convicted of her murder in 2000. The problem with this is that the only evidence the state had to convict Adnan was the stories told by others, specifically someone named Jay who was with Adnan for some of the day Hae went missing and had possession of Adnan’s car and cell phone. He claims Adnan made him come pick him up after the murder was committed and assist him in burying Hae’s body.
Pride and Jealousy are very powerful things! Some people will go to the farthest limits to preserve their own ego and selfish desires. The Serial Podcast by Sarah Koenig is about the very complex murder of Hae Min Lee on January 13th, 1999. Many different people are brought into the Hae Lee case but the one that sticks out the most is Adnan Syed. On the day of January 13th, 1999 Hae Min Lee was strangled to death by Adnan Syed with the assistance of Jay Wilds.
