Internal Conflicts In The Odyssey

The Odyssey is a story about Odysseus and his journey home. The challenges that he faces, and the things he has to overcome to be back with his family. All these challenges that the gods were with him helping him to get past and endure things that he couldn 't do without the guidance. There are many interpretations of this story and many different types of interpretations. Some are movies, graphic novels, novels, short stories, prose, and many more.

The Odyssey is one of the most famous epic poems of all time. Written by the Greek poet Homer. Odysseus demonstrates his wit and intelligence on many occasions. From his clever escape from the Cyclops to his great thinking when visiting the Laistrygonians. Odysseus is a master strategist who always manages to stay one step ahead of his enemies.

An Odyssey in modern definition is a “long series of wanderings and adventures”; so unsurprisingly Homer’s epic poem, The Odyssey is exactly that: a string of adventures that centers on Odysseus as he travels back to his home, Ithaca, after the Trojan War. Aside from the long journey, the much more can be inferred from just than the places and persons visited; The character of Odysseus can be explored to show what makes him a hero, what his qualities and flaws are, and how he is an archetype. In my opinion, Odysseus is an epic hero because he is only human. In being human his feats of outsmarting the Cyclops Polyphemus seems much grander.

Though it may seem strange, a poem that is almost 3,000 years old symbolizes the obstacles I will soon face in my life. This epic poem is The Odyssey by Homer. When a reader looks at the story at the surface, it seems that it is simply about a Greek man, Odysseus, trying to return home land of Ithaca while he must fight monsters and avoid magical dangers.

In The Odyssey, Homer uses characters who must face various difficult challenges to expose Odysseus’ poor leadership skills, arrogance and inquisitiveness.

The book is better than the movie, a comment that is stated after every film adaptation ever known to man. Why does the book always seem to be more preferable? Seeing the book on screen, through the eyes of the director, will never live up to the expectations that were implanted upon the viewer when the book was read themselves. “The Odyssey” is a superior work of art to the film O! Brother, Where Art Thou?
