Social media can lead to many things such as cyberbullying, a person catfishing, or invasion of privacy. Many people tend to use social media as a way to bully people. Which isn’t a good thing bullying shouldn't exist at all. Not only that but people also tend to use social media to make a fake account to talk to someone or pretend to be someone else.

Do you think social media is good for America? Well I don’t think it’s good for our society because if you u take a look at the article ‘’Are Social Networks Messing with Your Head’’ made by David DiSalvo and in his article he talks about people in America is getting too addicted to social media. In the year of 2009 Nielson Online reported that 70 million Facebook members in the US spent 233 million hours on the app in 2009. That was 6 years ago can u picture the number now that we have more technology like cell phones that can now give off out location and etc. That’s why social media is bad for our society if u can just think about it kids, teens, and adults all post things like their pictures their location and sometimes where they live on social media.

a daily basis, kids are texting and posting events parties and stupid things like homework. Kids believe they have to post everything on the internet. Some kids post dumb things and get themselves into trouble. I agree with the claims Stout has a hundred percent. Today we have put our trust on the media as a priority to give us entertainment, news, and education. There are some positive and negative that influence young people of our society when it comes to media. The positive things kids like to express are their self with is the social world with apps like instagram, snapchat, twitter, and facebook which allows them to take pictures, share photos, or even just chat with someone. Although people like to use social media for fun there is also a negative side to it. For instance, some kids tend to abuse the use of media by bullying others online which goes by cyberbullying, that can result in kids getting their feelings hurt or even trying to harm themselves because of what other said too or about them.

Since the beginning of high-school, my cousin struggled mightily with a negative self-image, caused by her peers and others on social media. With all the negativity from Instagram and even from TV shows, she ended up developing an eating disorder. Her eating disorder became so terrible that she ended up severely underweight, and because of that, she had bad health. One day she was taking a shower and fell; because she was so skinny from her eating disorder, she died from the fall. The past year we have all felt the loss of her, and miss her very much.

It has been an increasingly common phenomenon for bullying and harassment to take place online through social media. Bullies feel as though the device, which they use to harass other people, is a form of protection for them. By not having to look at the victim, a bully is able to post hurtful comments, spread rumors, and express hateful opinion without having to face the consequences which would accompany those actions if they were to be done without hiding behind a screen. “Alarmingly, teens typically suffered cyberbullying in silence. “Kids really are hesitant to tell anyone when cyberbullying occurs,” Hamm said.

When children have access to technology and to communicate to anyone, a whole new form of bullying takes place: cyberbullying. Cyberbullying can make a child feel so frightened and unsafe that they feel as though this world has gained a brand new level of danger. A child could feel so helpless that they could take their own life. A man named John Halligan informs an article about his son named Ryan Patrick who killed himself in 2003 after being threatened and bullied by his classmates online for months (“Prosecuting Cyberbullies”). This type of bullying that technology has created makes bullying a child easier because the bullies do not have to see the victim face to face.

In the article, “On Social Media, Teens Take Risks First Seek Help Later”, Traci Pederson discusses the risks behind the internet and steps that can be done in order to prevent these possibilities from happening to juveniles. Multiple steps can be completed to educate minors on privacy issues as they use social media. First off, teenagers should be frequently warned about the dangers of the Internet. Informing teenagers about local incidents caused by the misuse of social media teaches them the significance of confidentiality settings. After notifying adolescents on these terrible consequences that occurred from the Internet, they should begin to realize the importance of safety precautions and privacy settings.
