In 1989, Dahmer had a lucky escape from the law after encountering a 13-year-old Laotian boy which led him to be convicted of sexual exploitation and second-degree sexual assault. He pleaded guilty to these charges stating that the boy looked over
18. In March of 1989, while awaiting his trial, he lured, strangled, sodomized, photographed, dismembered, and disposed of an aspiring model named Anthony Spears and multiple other young boys. During his trial, he was sentenced to one year in prison, for which he would have been charged more but he promised to change and enter into rehabilitation programs. After he was released from prison, he developed routines and started to experiment with disposing of bodies using chemical means and eating the flesh and organs of his victims. Additionally, he experimented with lobotomies, drilling holes into victims' brains while they were still alive and injecting their brains with muriatic acid. He was very careful in how he chose his victims so that he would not get caught as easily, which included people that were criminals and people of color.

His fantasies included murder and pedophilia which led to necrophilia and cannibalism. Dahmer let his sexual urges take hold of him which caused him to do unthinkable things. After he ended the life of 17 young men, he was finally taken into custody. He tried to plead that he was insane but the court decided that he was guilty of all counts and sane. When he was eventually taken to prison, he was brutally murdered by a fellow inmate, which finally added some closure to the case. It is believed that the inhumanity of
Jeffrey Dahmer came from the societal urge to “be normal”. When Dahmer discovered that he was homosexual, he was unable to talk to anyone about it without being judged and degraded.
He would not have killed 17 men if he were able to talk to someone about his issues. The victims of Jeffrey Dahmer were young men with full lives ahead of them, which is why it is very important to know who one is messing with so that one does not also end up a victim. The many murders of Jeffrey Dahmer are prime examples of man’s inhumanity to
On the night of July 22, 1991, Milwaukee enforcement officers took notice of a man running and stumbling down the street. When confronted, he said that a man had threatened him with a butcher’s knife. After arriving at Jeffrey Dahmer’s apartment, Dahmer allowed the police to search the apartment. When the officials entered, they were hit with a putrid odor and had discovered various body parts scattered about his apartment that belonged to 11 of his victims, as well as Polaroid pictures of his victims' post-mortem in indecent poses. Dahmer was arrested on sight and taken into custody (“Serial Killers”).
Dahmers modus operandi was to find single men, ask them to go home with him for the night, either to his grandmothers or his apartment depending on where he lived at the time, then usually ask them to pose for pornography for him, perform sexually, drug them, murder them, and then cut up the bodies for disposal. He was considered a necrophiliac, a cannibal, and was a convicted pedophile. Dahmer mainly targeted young men and boys between the ages of 14 and 33. Most of his victims were African Americans, as he once said he hated black people, but not all of them were. All of his killings were in Wisconsin, and one in Ohio, being his first ever murder.
Dahmer claimed that he always had thoughts of necrophilia and murder and the stress of his parents marriage led to him taking those thoughts into actions. Dahmer found his first victim, Steven Hicks, while the man was hitchhiking and picked him up and brought him home. They hung out, drank beer, and had sex. When Hicks tried to leave Dahmer killed Hicks with a barbell which he used to hit him in the head with. He dismembered Hicks, put his body parts into plastic bags and buried them in the woods behind his parents’ house.

Many murderers hide in plain sight; they could be friends, neighbors, or even a local bartender. Homicides are discovered each day in the United States, but the question remains, “Was this the act of a serial killer?”
Dahmer would have sexual intercourse with the corpses of the men he killed. The defense expert argued that this was something Dahmer could not control. “The final defense expert to testify, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Carl Wahlstrom, diagnosed Dahmer with borderline personality disorder, schizotypal personality disorder, necrophilia, alcohol dependence, and a psychotic disorder.” (Jeffrey Dahmer). Prosecutions denied this claim of insanity and another psychiatrist came in and claimed that Dahmer was not insane at the time of the murders.
On January 30, 1992, Jeffrey Dahmer was indicted on fifteen murder charges and his trial began. Even though the evidence against him was overwhelming, Jeffrey pleaded insanity as his defense due to the nature of his incredibly disturbing and uncontrollable impulses. Two weeks later, the court declared him sane and guilty on fifteen counts of murder. He was sentenced to fifteen life terms, for a total of nine hundred fifty-seven years in prison. In May of 1992, he entered a guilty plea for the murder of Steven Hicks, and received an additional life sentence.
After the second murder he began to kill sporadically, until he began killing one person every week until the summer of 1991. Reports showed that he began to developed rituals as he progressed, experimenting with chemical means of disposal and often consuming the flesh of his victims.
