Julius Caesar was one of Rome’s most successful and outstanding leaders. The question of whether or not he deserved to die is very simple. No, Julius Caesar did not deserve to be assassinated for the good of Rome because he was the good of Rome. Politically, militaristically, and economically he benefited Rome. Did the conspirators kill Caesar for the good of Rome or for their own personal motives? To begin, the conspirators projected things unto Caesar that never happened and were false. For example, they said he was climbing ambition’s ladder and he wouldn’t look back. How do they know that? Act III Scene II says, “death for his ambition” (3.2.30). Meaning they killed Caesar because he became too successful or desired too much success. Brutus wanted the good of Rome but he killed the man that provided the most benefits for Rome. Caesar and his military conquered the rich lands of Gaul that expanded Rome’s borders. “Gaul had fertile land for agriculture, large forest for timber, and mines filled with golds and metals” (Science Times). Caesar also doubled his soldier’s pay. Politically, he removed a corrupt tax system, removed a quarter of Rome’s debt, and allowed tenants to live free of rent for a year. This shows that Caesar did the best possible for Rome’s citizens. However, Brutus portrayed him as a bad man to his crowds during …show more content…
However, Caesar denied the crown three times as it was offered to him. He never asked to become so popular or high in status. In fact, it just became so as Rome thought he deserved to be crowned. Caesar denying the crown shows that he had no intentions of becoming tyrant and that conspirators had personal motives for the assassination. Caesar’s will showed that he loved Rome and the people. In Act III Scene III Antony reads the will in which Caesar gives seventy-five Drachmas to each man and donates all of his land for the citizen’s pleasures
Julius Caesar is dead. He was betrayed by a fellow friend .Jc was growing in power and now now the roman, romen dictator. JC friend Brutus and accomplish Cassius planned to assassinated JC.Julius was blamed for his dizzy spell is this the truth. In doc C it says that Brutus tried to calm JC.
Firstly Brutus one of the conspirators was a very big part in the death of Julius. If Brutus did not convince Caesar to go to the senate that day as in document C he would not have gone. But Brutus who was said to be Caesar 's friend in Doc C wanted him to stop so Brutus himself could gain power. Cassius the other big conspirator openly expressed his hatred. This is shown in document A where after a war Caesar gave money to low class people.
Even though he was seen as someone who was greatly entitled, he stood for what he knew was right and would most benefit everyone, not just himself. Although Caesar was never an official king, he stood as one of the greatest leaders of all time. Caesar was in charge of Rome, the country was struggling and didn't have a steady leader under control. So once everyone saw the potential and strong leader they offered him the crown three times and he never accepted it, however, he stayed in charge until his
He increased how many rights the common allied citizen had. He also granted full citizenship to all of the teachers and doctors in Rome that did not already have it. Although it can appear as if Caesar wanted to be King, this was not the case. The reason he passed these laws was to grow Rome. Growing Rome would not only grow the amount of people in the Roman army it would also help the Roman economy because when there are more people buying items, there are more people selling the items, thus adding jobs to Rome, thus lowering the unemployment rate.
Historians may argue that Julius Caesar helped rome to make it better and stronger for the people. While this might be true this is misleading because all of Julius Caesar's good actions like giving people more jobs, but it just covered up his worse actions that hurt rome. Also Julius Caesar was named a awful man throughout history from not persevering in hard situations, hurting not helping rome, and doing things for himself. To begin with Julius Caesar was named a awful man from how he didn’t persevere in hard situations. One way he didn't persevere was when Sulla (the emperor of the time) ordered Julius to divorce Cornelia (his first wife) because she was from the family of Sulla's enemies.
In the reading “Killing Caesar” by Jon Herman the author gives evidence on both sides of the argument is Caesar a tyrant or a hero? Did Caesar deserve his horrific, and bloody killing in front of so many subjects? Caesar did not deserve this he was a hero to all around him. Caesar was a hero because he made sure to put his people above even himself.
“Cowards die many times before their deaths; The valiant never taste death but once.” Julius Caesar said this when he was talking about cowardness. Brutus had the choice to join the conspiracy or not. Here are a few reasons why. First, the people of Rome could see Brutus differently.
Julius Caesar’s assassination turned out a bad thing for the Roman Republic because it caused civil war, changed the perception of him, he conquered many land, and the people favored him. After Caesar’s death, another Triumvirate tried to get back at those who killed Caesar by starting a civil war which led to many deaths and suicides. This shows how if Caesar was not killed, many peoples lives would be saved and that killing Caesar created a domino effect on the death count. His works, while living, showed themselves as not all great. But because of his assassination, it made him seem like a martyr which changed the overall perception of him from a horrible leader to the good guy.
While some may argue that the extent to which the conspirators went to may have been too far, the extent of power Caesar may have reached would have extended to the point that Caesar would have been unstoppable. A point is reached where eventually those in power become so untouchable that then there is no chance for change. With Caesar, he would have become a dictator and the conspirators stopped him as soon as they could. This becomes a question of if you should punish people for what they might do.
I think that Caesar did not deserve to be murdered for the fact that he had a different view than other people. In (act II,scene 1,line 32-34) the text says “And therefore think him as a serpent’s egg which, hatched, would as his kind grow mischievous and kill him in the shell.” This text is saying that he is evil and should be killed. Conspirators should not have killed Caesar. Just because someone has different views and opinions that you don't like you can't murder them for that.
The conspirators long thought out plan came to end when Antony started an uproar. He starts to say that he is only there to bury him not praise him, but I think we all know he had other motives. The conspirators reasons for killing Caesar were because he was too ambitious. If you barely knew Caesar you would think this is true. However a very dear friend of Caesar points out some very valid reasons as to why this accusation is false.
He was also was a very bad man. He would kill all people that would disagree with him, was a terrible leader, and weak. He was a terrible leader because he was not going to go to the traditional race at the festival of Lupercal. The only reason he was not going to go is because a soothsayer told him to beware the ides of March, March fifteenth to be specific. Julius Caesar is a man that the conspirators would consider a bad man.
The final reason why Julius Caesar was a villain is the fact that he took action first without thinking about what the consequences would be. Some people might say that Caesar was a hero because he conquered new lands and saved Rome from the hardships of war. Except Caesar, like stated before, only cared about fame and wealth so, he sought out to conquer new lands when really he just started the wars and put Rome in a zone of danger. He started unnecessary wars without thinking about how the rise of taxes (due to the war) would affect the economic part of Rome and it’s citizens.
As the many of you have probably heard, Julius Caesar came back to Rome a few days prior to the horrid assassination that occurred. We know of the people who assassinated this great man, but we are still unsure how to wrap our heads around their reasoning behind killing great Caesar. Caesar was a great man with good intentions, unfortunately not everyone thought that he would be the best choice to lead Rome. As many may already know, a majority of the citizen voted and chanted upon Caesars arrival, but there was a selective few who were doing the complete opposite.
That is a noble man, he wants what's best for his country. He only truly and honestly killed Caesar because of the fear that he might become king. Rome hasn't had a king for centuries and Brutus
