The Khmer Rouge has taken over Cambodia. This is much like what is happening in the Soviet Union. It may look different but the mass murdering and cruelty has lead both countries into a state which is not looked at kindly. Each country was in the same situation from the standpoint of the citizens. Rights were taken away, torture and cruel deaths occurred, and the death of many was looked at by the powerful as a worthy cause to the country as a whole. These are some of the key similarities of the two countries in their states of distress. But, the biggest point of similarity between the two would be the leaders and how they view the country they are leading. Both Cambodia and the Soviet Union are run by murderous people/groups which have a particular trait in common. They both have vision. Vision for a better country, but neither know how to create better country’s through the growth of their country, both believe that unity and equality is vital among the average person. This creates strife and tension from leader to citizen, unfortunately the result is death to the weaker. We see this outcome in both countries. In cambodia, the uprising was much different from Stalin to Khmer Rouge. Khmer Rouge was lead by Pol Pot, a man originally from Vietnam but moved to france becoming a powerful leader as a communist. Pol Pot eventually became one of the most powerful communist leaders of all time. He then starts the group Khmer Rouge and takes over Cambodia. Another very important detail creating difference between the two hardships in two different countries would be the amount of time the country was under distress because of their cruel leaders. Khmer Rouge only lasted 4 years then vietnam soldiers took over the capitol and restored the country. Stalin ruled for many years all the way through the
Although both revolutions began in the same period of time, they are similar and different in many ways. Similar because of what caused both revolutions and different because of the violence that was used in each movement and the outcome from it. A similarity between both revolutions was the reason that started it all. Both of the French and Haitian Revolution were caused by enlightenment ideas and the lower classes wanting equality. In the French Revolution, the common people had to pay the most taxes, while the upper class didn 't pay that many taxes.
During the Khmer Rouge’s takeover of Cambodia depicted in First They Killed My Father,by Loung Ung, brainwashing often took place to manipulate the people of Cambodia to despise the Vietnamese “invaders.” Most brainwashing occurred in children, because of their impressionable minds. Given the right amount of propaganda to its children, a tyrannical force, such as the Khmer Rouge, can control the population into fighting for them. In First They Killed My Father, children are made into soldiers for the Khmer Rouge, and are taught to resent the “Youn” population. This brainwashing is seen in Met Bong as she says, “The Youns hate you.
The impact of Lenin’s victory over a capitalist monarchy defines an important change in the way Sino-Vietnamese relations would occur, since the focus on nationalism would slowly convert to communism as the dominant ideology to resist western capitalism. The rise of the communist resistance Ho Chi Minh in the early 20th century defines the overarching influence of Chinese/Soviet communist policies, which he followed by building a military force on the northern border of China and Vietnam in the 1920s: “By late 1924, Nguyen Ai Quoc (Ho Chi Minh) was in southern China, building a new revolutionary organization meant to operate inside Indochina. These efforts culminated in 1930 with the establishment of the Vietnamese Communist Party” (Ward 45). In this historical perspective, it is imperative to understand the impact that the Soviet Union had on Chinese Communism, which had been steadily growing as a counter-ideology to the capitalist nationalism of Sun Yat-sen.
The Mexican revolution is similar in many ways to the Cuban Revolution. The cuban revolution, however, was a much larger more world wide known revolution. Both revolutions were fought in mexico, but in the Revolution many more people died or were injured (Kenny). Also, a lot more of mexico was destroyed because of the fighting. A similarity between the Mexican and Cuban revolution was that they were both caused because of government issues.
The Khmer Rouge was a revolutionary group who wanted to reconstruct Cambodian society. On April 17, 1975 the Khmer Rouge attacked the capitol Phnom Penh. As soon as the Khmer Rouge got to the capitol they started to force the people to leave all their possessions and march to the rural part of Cambodia. “Hospital patients
While North Vietnam practiced Communism and was led by Ho Chi Minh, South Vietnam was a mainly Catholic country under Ngo Dinh Diem. Diem was firm against anyone who posed a threat to the unity of his country, and Ho Chi Minh realized he would have to take action in order to make South Vietnam fall to Communism. Thus, Ho Chi Minh formed the National Liberation Front, a group of Communists who pretended to be South Vietnamese citizens that were unhappy under Diem’s rule. Furthermore, the Communists waged a war of terror, kidnapping and killing village leaders.
Research project and presentation write up: Genocides in the 1970s For this project I worked with Madison Latonie to cover the genocides of the 1970s, including the Bangladesh genocide, the Cambodian genocide, and the East Timor genocide. Of these, I was responsible for completing the section on the Cambodian Genocide and the factual elements of the East Timor genocide. I was honestly shocked at how many horrific genocides took place in this single decade, and the seeming lack of international response that I feel these situations should warrant. The Cambodian genocide began when the Khmer Rouge, aka the Communist Party of Kampuchea, took power on April 17, 1975 by overthrowing the existing leader, Lon Nol.
In our history there have been many wars, revolutions, and consequences to all of these things, such as lives lost or land being destroyed but it was all worth it when they succeeded and got what they wanted, freedom. Many countries go through revolutions because they might have been under rule from another person and or country and wanted their independence. A revolution is when people overthrow a social order or even a government and are in favor of a new system or government. The American Revolution and Haitian Revolution had some similarities and some differences and this is what my argument will be about, comparing and contrasting both revolutions.
Lenin continued to give Stalin power and the people could not do anything to stop it. After Lenin’s death in 1924, Stalin had complete control over the communist party. By the late 1920s, he was the dictator of the Soviet Union. Stalin kept finding way to get more power and the people were not able to do anything to fix
One similarity between the two is that both the Nazis and Khmer Rouge forced people to move out of their homes without any notice. If the people hesitated to do so, they would be killed. There are so many more similarities such as, the U.S did not get involved in either events, the Nazis and Khmer Rouge both wanted an agrarian lifestyle, and that both were obsessed with documenting every move. One last similarity between the Holocaust and Cambodian genocide is that the Nazis and Khmer Rouge both stole many of the people's valuable possessions like gold and money. Even though the Holocaust and Cambodian genocide are two totally different events, they still happen to have many
If you are to say that the United States and Texas Constitution are the same, then you would be extremely mistaken. Not to completely disagree with you, there are some same attributes in both constitutions, but the differences are written between those lines to. One of the similarities are that both have representative democratic government values which means that the government is ruled by trusted, elected officials chosen by the people. These appointed leaders are like a spokesperson, they were selected by the people so they fight for the people.
Both leaders also use propaganda as a method of control. Mao and Kim Jong Un both used paintings, advertisements, and posters to show that they were the best and people need to show love to them. One Example is Mao would have pictures of people holding red books to show that if you did not have one you were not part of the revolution and you would be punished if not. Also, Kim jong Un had pictures of him as the sun to symbolize that he is like the “god” but if you get to close to the sun there would be serious consequences. Kim Jong Un uses censorship but mao did not really use it.
Cambodia is a country in Southeast Asia. The population in the 1970’s was about 7 million. The majority of the people were Buddhists. Cambodia gained its independence from France in 1953 after nearly 100 years of Colonial rule. During the 1970’s Cambodia’s prince was given the power to rule Cambodia.
The first way that the French Revolution in the late 1700s and the Russian Revolution in the early 1900s compare is their government. During their times, they both had weak leaders that did not desire to rule, this was King Louis XVI of France and Czar Nicholas II of Russia. Both Royal families were eventually executed or assassinated. Also, both countries around the time of their revolutions were affected by a war in a way, the American Revolution for France and World War I for Russia. Both tried new governments, for France this was democracy and for Russia it was communism.
The Viet Cong were the communist regime in North Vietnam that were supported by China and the Soviet Union. The South Vietnam regime were a noncommunist regime that were primarily allied by the United States. These Vietnamese communists were a military branch of the National Liberation Front. Before the Vietnam War Vietnam was struggling to get independence from Chinese and French. The country then was under the control of the Chinese and French.
