Book Report #2
“Killing Lincoln”
Killing Lincoln is a very good easy to read historical book. I already knew some about when Lincoln was shot and how he died but this book put in so much more little details that any other thing I have gotten information from. I feel like Bill O'Rreilly did a very good job writing this book. I really like the way that it was wrote using the time and different days for the chapters. That helped give the book some detail and helped me understand what was going on in the book and when important scenes were easier to understand. The book takes place all over Washington and the eastern part of the United States This would have taken place up until April 26th 1865,

Obviously some of these characters had more to do with the book than others did such as John Wilkes Booth and Andrew Johnson. Everybody knows the story of john wilkes booth, being an american actor and a very popular person.
There are several missions by several different people at the beginning of this book. Some of the obvious ones is the mission of the conspirators Or the mission of the Union Government and Abraham Lincoln. Obviously John Wilkes Booth’s mission was to Kidnap or assassinate lincoln. While Lincoln and the american government were trying to rebuild the union and our country. They were also trying to free the slaves. While the Conspirators were trying to tear apart the American Government.
There are many tough parts to the book but obviously the worst one would easily be when Abraham Lincoln was shot in the back of the head by John Wilkes Booth. It was one of the worst thing to ever happen in the American Government and it was the first president to be Assassinated. Obviously being president Lincoln could not make every person in the United states but he did what he thought was the best for our nation and our country. And most of the time he was right. The night President Lincoln was shot there was also another attack on secretary of state William H Seward he was the secretary of state at the time and stabbed him three times in the throat and twice in the

The first part of the book was the planning of the assassination. John Wilkes Booth formed a group of people that would together assassinate the president, as well as the Secretary of State. At first, they were just planning on kidnapping the president, but later, Booth decided it would be better to assassinate him. Booth was the leader of the group, the others included
These characters included in the novel are based on actual historical figures that were very large influences in America’s history. Also, in the beginning of the book, there is a Confederate spy, Harrison hired
The book begins on Saturday, March 4, 1865, with Lincoln preparing for his inauguration. O’Reilly describes the exhaustion felt by Lincoln as the full weight of the Civil War is continued to be placed squarely on
Chapter 1 of Chasing Lincoln’s Killer by James L. Swanson is about the assassination plan of Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth. This assassination plan had strengths and weaknesses. John Wilkes Booth was a twenty-six year old actor who was a strong, loyal, and passionate confederate. Booth and his conspirators had a mission to take down some of the top leaders of the United States of America - the President Abraham Lincoln, Vice President Johnson, and U.S Secretary of State William Seward. In assessing this plan, which is similar to any other assassination plan, it includes good and bad situations with conspirators, location/time, and also weapons.
This book is about Lincoln’s assassination in 1865. The person guilty of assassinating Lincoln was John Wilks Booth. John Wilkes Booth was part of a family of celebrated actresses, but he was not known for that. He was known as the person that killed President Lincoln. What some did not know was that John was a racist and did not like that the war was over and the slaves were going to be free.
Overall, this book gives a complete overlook of Lincoln’s few weeks alive and the aftermath of the assassination. This book was written to inform readers of the events before, during, and after the assassination of Lincoln with keen insight drawn from eye witness accounts. The book, Killing Lincoln, has four different parts: “Total war”, “The Ideas of Death”, “The Long Good Friday”, and “The Chase”.
There are many different books that tell the story of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. One such book is Killing Lincoln, written by Bill O’Reilly. This book is not only about the assassination of President Lincoln, but it’s about the end of the Civil War too. O’Reilly’s Killing Lincoln has many strengths and weaknesses, overall, it’s a good book.
As Booth began his bold escape, the fate of Abraham Lincoln was unknown. According to “Abraham,” Charles Leale heard the pistol fire and Mary’s scream, so the twenty-three year old doctor sprinted towards the wounded President . When Leale reached Lincoln, the young doctor saw the physical condition of the President. “He found the president slumped in his chair, paralyzed and struggling to breath” (History.com). “Assassination” states that the doctor reacted quickly by ripping the President’s shirt open for a physical examination, but Leale could not find the bullet wound.
The Radical and the Republican by James Oakes Book Review James Oakes’ The Radical and the Republican is a thorough and captivating account of two of America’s most distinguished figures, Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas. In his intriguing and polished work, Oakes examines the issues of slavery, race, politics, and war in America during the mid-1800’s. Though both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas engendered immense social and political change throughout the Civil War era, the relationship between the two men is often neglected.
James L. Swanson Chasing Lincoln’s Killer 2009 Chasing Lincoln’s Killer is a book about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, a past United States of America president. The introduction of the book is how John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s killer, and his accomplices, made a plan to kidnap the American president, but their plan failed. So, John Wilkes Booth and his little gang decide to kill the President, the Vice President, and the Secretary of State in one night. John Wilkes Booth would kill the president at Ford’s theater, His accomplice George Atzerodt would kill the Vice President at the Vice President’s hotel room. Lewis Powell and David Herold would kill the Secretary of State.
The book is broken down into thirds. The first third of the book talks in depth and detail about his early life. The second third of the book goes into the presidency stage, elections, office, and the obstacles headed his way. The last part of the book talks about the war and the choices Lincoln had to make. As an overall book it was really descriptive and informative.
Presidents are elected to preform and achieve greatness in America; they serve as the commander and chief of armed forces, and they find ways in coming up with agreements regarding trade and aid along with many other things. Being the president is obviously not an easy task. Have you ever thought about who you thought the best presient of the United States of America was? According to a debate in Taking Sides written by Larry Madaras and James SoRelle they presented an argument between Phillip Shaw Paludan and Melvin E. Bradford debating if Abraham Lincoln was America’s Greatest President. Many people agreed and disagreed whether or not President Lincoln was the greatest; however the sides of two professors were part in the Taking Sides issue of yes or no.
The novel Across Five Aprils by Irene Hunt is based on the story of the childhood of Hunt’s grandfather during the Civil War in the United States. The story takes place in Southern Illinois in 1861-1865, ruled by Abraham Lincoln. The Creighton family live in Jasper County, Illinois and Matt guessed that eighty percent of the people in the part of the country count Missouri or Kentucky or Tennessee as somehow being their own. Missouri and Kentucky historically stay Union while Tennessee turns Confederate, and this was why there were complicating attitudes about the war in the Creighton’s community. Between 1861 and 1865, political emotions were growing long before that.
In conclusion, Abrahams assassination was needless because he was the first to have sympathy for slaves and made sure it ended and he lead America better than most other presidents.one thing to take from this essay is to support the correct leaders and dont support the incorrect
