Company The company I chose to analyze is Apple. The entrepreneurs that founded Apple were Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak on April 1st, 1976. Apple started with the building of Apple I in Jobs’ garage. Apple II came out with color graphics which revolutionized the computer industry. In the year of 1980, Apple went public, and sales jumped to $117 million. In 1983, Steve Wozniak left Apple due to a diminishing interest and Steve Jobs left shortly after in 1985. Jobs returned as CEO in 2000 and revamped the computers as well as introduced the personal laptop, the iPod, and an mp3 player. Amazon has recently announced the release of their new product, the Kindle Fire. Responses to this release has been significant; Amazon is taking 20,000 orders per day leading it to have around 2.5 million pre-orders by the time the Kindle Fire is officially released. In addition to this, Amazon can be viewed as a threat due to them having the most popular online shop. Amazon was able to tackle down barriers between them and Apple making them a tough competitor. Amazon, despite the competition it has created, is not expected to cause any major problems for Apple in the near future (Brew, 2011).
Collaboration
Amazon and Apple, despite their competition, collaborate on multiple occasions. For example, Apple and Amazon worked together to raise the price of iPhones and iPads. They did this by eliminating third-party sellers on Amazon who were offering Apple products at a lower cost. This elimination made Amazon the dominant seller of Apple products through the Amazon Marketplace, which both companies proceed to benefit from (Clover, 2022). Apple has also collaborated with both Amazon and Google on a new idea called “Project CHIP”.
