Recently I read the book Panic, by Lauren Oliver. The genre of the story is realistic fiction and is written for young adults. Lauren Oliver also wrote the books “Before I Fall”, “Pandemonium”, and “Requiem”. The book Panic is about a group of teenagers that compete in a high-stakes game that involves many secretive, dangerous challenges. Even though the game is so dangerous, the $67,000 cash prize makes it well-worth it. The story takes place in a small town in New York, where not much happens. The main character, Heather, needs the money to get her and her sister away from her drug-addicted mother and stepfather. Heather’s best friend, Natalie also plays, and hopes to use the money to start her modeling career. In addition, Dodge, their other friend, plays to get even with somebody who hurt his sister. Everybody who plays panic has a reason to play, and needs something only the game can give them. Some people play for money, some to get even, and others play for a thrill they can only get from panic. Heather, Natalie, and Dodge work together to get through the challenges. Throughout the book, Heather’s character changes from the challenges. When Panic first starts, she fears the challenges and doesn’t believe that she can do them. After a while, she …show more content…
The book kept me guessing until the very end of the story. The main characters are easy to relate to, and are very likeable. Lauren Oliver’s style in the book is casual, yet it keeps the reader greatly intrigued. Oliver is able to paint a very vivid picture of each event in the story, that makes the reader feel as if they are right there, participating in the challenges. The theme of desire reoccurs in the story, as the characters all desire something throughout the game. Panic is written for young adults, and can be classified as a realistic fiction genre. Panic was published by HarperCollins in 2014. The ISBN number is
The book has many characters with very different personalities. The book has unexpected twists and turns throughout it. The novel involves kidnappers, a dragon and (of course) the 5 children from Miami that know nothing about what they’re getting into. This book started out as, a fairly normal story.
11) The title of my book is Crash. This is a good title because it captures the overall feeling of the story. The main character suffers through a traumatic vision that eventually is all she can think about. The vision ends up taking over her life, causing her to “crash” or shut down. She is unable to make the vision go away, which causes her to act out of the ordinary, so her friends and family begin to worry.
Player One: What is to Become of Us? Only five short hours make up the timeline of this novel, but in such a short period of time the reader surprisingly finds themselves very involved in the story. In a small airport lounge on the outskirts of Toronto four people meet for the very first time. Luke the runaway pastor, Karen the outspoken ‘cougar’, Rick the unlucky bartender, Rachel the robotic beauty, and Player One the more humane alter ego of Rachel all tell their side of the story as it unravels. It may have seemed like a typical day for these people until the unthinkable happens and the life of everyone in that small airport lounge would forever be changed.
This book also contains mystery, drama, suspense, and so much
This story ‘Tomorrow when the War began,’ by John Marsden is about Australia being invaded by another country. Due to this invasion a character Ellie and her friends become isolated from their families in Wirrawee. The group of teenagers are imposed to discover their hidden strengths and learn important values and lessons about the real world they live in. These values and lessons begin with gaining courage and strength, learning how to fend for themselves when they come to a point where there is just them to fight for their country. To be more in depth of this novel it starts off when a group of teenagers come back from camp and slowly start to realize that something is terribly wrong, that their country has been invaded.
This book shows how a twelve year old girl named Lucy uses makeup to help her family, who is on the edge of bankruptcy. I really enjoyed reading this book because there was a lot of emotions in it and there was a lot of drama in it which is the type of book I enjoy reading. This is the type of book that when you start reading it you just can’t stop. This is because you need to know more and it pulls you into wanting to find out the ending, which is why I read it so quickly! Reading this book really inspired me to be more environmentally friendly so that our earth will be as productive as it is now in future generations.
Rick Yancey’s The 5th Wave is perhaps the young adult novel of the season. It’s been accompanied by a massive promotional push, with what seems like every Barnes & Noble in the world pushing it as the inevitable successor to Twilight, Harry Potter, and The Hunger Games. And unlike 2012’s event YA book—John Green’s justly acclaimed The Fault In Our Stars—The 5th Wave has a premise that promises at least two more books to come: There are aliens, and there is a girl, and Earth has been invaded. What next?
so she decided to write some herself. This paper is going to discuss expectation, description, comparison and review. The target audience for this book is teens and young adults making it a book chosen by middle school teachers for a class to read. So of course for most this book’s expectation was set
I have a have a few predictions for this book. First of all I predict that the girl on the team named Dee will be able to stay on the team because she is bringing in fans to watch the games. Dee is also one of the best players on the team so I would assume that the player would end up wanting her to stay and help the team. My second predictions is that I think
In a life or death situation do you play it safe or take the gamble? Will starts by being naive but persevered through the attack and became more grateful and a stronger person in the end. John was a very strict business man and is competitive just like Will by the end he is happy with everything he has. The little asian woman, Ting, was weak and shy at the beginning but by the end of the book she was more tolerate and became friends with Will and his father. In the novel We All Fall Down by Eric Walters, during a crisis people become their strongest and best self.
It 's a jaw-dropping book that will leave you wanting more as the author Laurie writes in a crisp and clear way describing the young girl Melinda’s horrific story and how it unfolds. The author 's tone gives off the vibe of a young frighted girl which I find really enhances this sad, but exhilarating story. This story taught me to always speak up for myself and to never let anyone take advantage of me. I would recommend this novel because it is extremely detailed, painting vivid pictures in your mind that really help to magnify and
The book I have chosen to review is Boy 21, a fictional read that is written by Matthew Quick. Quick is a New York Times best-selling author debuting in novels such as The Silver Linings Playbook and Love May Fail. To best describe this book, it is a captivating read that is comforting for the mind, as it canvasses the raw and unflinching life of a high school senior who displays love for basketball and life relationships. Furthermore, set in a troubled Belmont city of Philadelphia, Quick incorporates the presence of mobs and violence which is captivating towards the reader and audience. I was intrigued about how the novel was written through Finley the main protagonist, which was Quick’s childhood perspective of life in Philadelphia and his passion towards basketball.
The book, Divergent, by Veronica Roth would be in my library because it has a strong, action-packed plot and it’s theme is about being yourself. The plot of Divergent is about a teenager growing up in a dystopian society where
The line conveys and proves that the story is also about a test of fate and commitment. This book, Gone Girl packs itself as a winning piece and formula, by confusing, frightening, and intriguing its readers all at once. Flynn, with this novel, has proven that her book deserves to be well-known, and an author to be crowned as the queen of Plot twists. At first, you might think that the novel is pale and boring but this book has its own sweet time to pick up the thriller type of genre that readers will not expect- It is definitely worth the wait.
