John Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo were both arrested on October 24th, 2002. They were found sleeping in a Blue Caprice Chevrolet in a rest area near interstate 70 near a place called Myersville in Maryland. They were both capable to withstand trial. John Muhammad was convicted in Virginia on November 17th, 2003. He was convicted for two accounts of capital murder, the conspiracy to commit murder, and the illegal use of a firearm. A recommendation was put out by the Virginia jury, that Muhammad be given the death sentence. 4 months later on March 9th, 2004 he was sentenced to death. The claim is that Malvo was indoctrinated into a cult of two, and that because of the brainwash he couldn’t comprehend what was right and what was wrong. Some experts in the psychology field were skeptical of this claim. Whereas actual cult experts are saying that Malvo was indeed brainwashed. When Malvo was describing crimes he was laughing at the same time. Steven Alan Hassan, director of the Freedom of Mind Resource Center in Somerville, Massachusetts, argues that not only can a “cult of two” exist; it can spawn an extreme form of indoctrination. (“The Brainwashing Defense”, 2003). This was meaning that when Malvo was laughing while talking about the murders he was in his cult identity still. Malvo’s lawyers also added that his true self identity is regaining its dominance. The reason for regaining its dominance is because of Malvo’s time away from John Muhammad. While Malvo was with Muhammad, Muhammad filled his head with ludacris things such false descriptions of eminent racial wars. He even told Malvo of his own bitter views of Islam.
