Today, Canada is seen as a multicultural and peaceful nation that has evolved over the course of history. This great nation would never have been possible without the impact that former Prime Minister, Lester B. Pearson left on this country. To start with, Pearson is undoubtedly a symbol of Canadian excellence, seeing as his efforts and impact were exceptional. At that time, the world was undergoing war, crisis and prejudice so it is impressive that Pearson was “one of the 20th century’s most untiring and effective workers in the cause of world peace.” (Baldwin 39). However, in the midst of those doubts Pearson managed to prove that he was the ideal leader for Canada by _____ ________________________________. Quebecois “Distinct Nation” by Theresa Klein Throughout history many nations that have a powerful, shared sense of identity, but never acquired their own state or sovereign entity. I chose to write a profile of the Quebecois in Canada as a testimony to what type of national conflicts can arise in regards to the quest for independence. I visited Quebec, Canada in 1984, and at the time, as it now, a very peaceful place. Firstly, Quebecois is another word for the French-speaking natives of the Canadian province of Quebec, Canada.
Also, his determination and courage helped him inspire others, while also leaving a lasting legacy to inspire Canadians for years to come.
Pearson completed and formed many programs and acts that helped Canada and beyond. As shown through his excellent job in politics, international affairs and improvement of Canadian lives, Pearson was able to become a successful Prime Minister. Canada has come a long way. From becoming an independent nation to participating in the first and second World Wars, Canada has lost a lot but gained even more. Many of the Canadians have grown from the history of their past and others made history. Lester Pearson was one of those individuals who left behind a positive legacy. Pearson was the leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and the most notable Prime Minister of Canada from 1963 to 1968.
Joseph Philippe Pierre Yves Elliot Trudeau was the 15th Prime Minister in Canada. He is recognized for his significant impact on Canadian politics because it brought a refinement to Canada for a better promise. He remains well renowned since he gave English and French language an equal status. He provided Canadians political rights and civil rights for citizens and non-citizens alike that lived in Canada. Also he allowed enhanced multiculturalism in the country.
It takes a lot of courage and manpower to run a country especially such a big one like Canada. William Mackenzie-King was born 1874, he served as prime minister from 1921-30 and 1935-48. Considering he served for twenty-three year and he served as the longest standing Canadian PM through the great depression and a world war, he made few mistakes mostly not recognizing and acting during the depression. William Lyon Mackenzie King was a semi-successful prime minister considering the economic and military conflict that was present in Canada at the time of his reign. He had a close friendship with the American prime minister, Franklin Roosevelt ultimately helping the Canadian and british war effort.
In the years from 1945 – 2000, Canada developed and changed as a nation. These changes had both positive and negative effects and many have subject to controversy throughout Canada. With global crises at hand, such as the Cold War, Canada found itself involved in international affairs in a way it had never been before. The role Canada had to take in the international community greatly developed Canada’s international role. Throughout this, Canada found itself heavily influenced by the US and struggled to keeps its autonomy from American influences and maintain friendly relations with the United States.
He stated “The Pearson flag is a meaningless flag. There is no recognition of history; no indication of the existence of French and English Canada; the partnership of the races; no acknowledgment of history. It is a flag without a past, without history, without honor, and without pride.” John Diefenbaker believed that the act of creating a new flag to bring Canadians closer together will consequently tear Canadians
There were many political challenges he had to face while he was Prime Minister, a famous one was stopping Quebec separatist from wanting to leave Canada. Aside from the many things he achieved, Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau is best
Trudeau’s first term ended in 1979, but he was elected again in 1980 (13). He was responsible for uniting Canada from coast-to-coast, advancing and developing multiple key aspects of Canada, and passing major laws; therefore, Pierre
The Past is to be respected and acknowledged, but not to be worshiped. It is our future in which we will find our greatness. -Pierre Trudeau, Prime minister of Canada 1968-1979///1980-1984 The future of our country was at the forefront of Pierre Trudeau 's mind when in office, and though our country grew out of simple history, the land was still riddled in many faults. To combat that, Trudeau created the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, which has continued to flourish and protect the welfare of Canadian citizens since its signing, though in some cases, has not been of the expected benefit.
Canada is now known to be a diverse, multicultural, bilingual and inclusive nation largely as a result of his work. Pierre Elliott Trudeau also believed in an equal Canada for all, he is primarily the one to introduce rights and freedoms to the citizens of Canada. While some view Pierre Trudeau as impulsive, for enforcing the War Measures Act, Trudeau enacted this for the protection of Canadian citizens against radical extremist and his actions were more rational than impulsive for the situation that had suddenly occurred. Pierre Trudeau was one of Canada’s greatest Prime Minister’s, who’s impact fundamentally changed the course of the nation by introducing multiculturalism, for introducing the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and for paradoxically upholding democracy by strong action during the October Crisis.
The fact that Pearson won a Nobel peace prize shows the world that this man is truly the father of Canadian peacekeeping. The world giving Pearson Nobel Peace prize was a symbol of the UN giving Canadians their respect and thinking of Canadians as synonymous with peacekeeping. In the aftermath of the Suez Crisis the world viewed Canada as peacekeepers and many Canadians embraced this new role with open arms. Canadians were incredibly proud to be known as peacekeepers and many Canadians praised Pearson for his “idea of using soldiers to end hostilities rather than begin them” and the glory it brought Canada. Canadians take pride in the fact that it was their idea “to end hostilities rather than begin them” and that world looked to them in times of trouble.
