Open letter to Mike Pence and Paul Ryan,Supposedly the two most power men in Washington soon to be under the most powerful man in Washington, Donald J Trump. I am 60 years old, I remember the presidencies of John F Kennedy and Lyndon B Johnson. I also remember Martin Luther King and Robert J Kennedy all great men who wanted to make such great change in our Great Nation. These men were true believers in God. They loved the oppressed and fought hard for the civil rights of all Americans. They understood that people sometimes require a hand up but never a hand out. Great men that history records as some of the most beloved by Americans. These great men reigned before the decision of Roe V Wade. A time when the majority of Americans were Democrat …show more content…
I myself am Irish Catholic my people, although poor, were hard working and loved nothing more in the world then Jesus Christ and America. My father, although disgusted by the ruling, understood that just as many republicans supported the bill as did democrats. Ronald Regan further promoted this fallacy that republicans were morally appalled by abortion when he used it in his campaign saying he would somehow end it; we all know that never happened. Many of the poor voted for Regan believing he would somehow end abortion. Many of those poor suffered greatly by the jobs lost under the Regan presidency when he claimed a war, not on abortion but, on unions jobs. Regan deregulated everything from factory workers to transportation. Unemployment rose to 10.9% in America and the homeless shelters were bursting at the seams but abortion continued on, even rising because of the cuts to government programs and the extreme poverty that people were experiencing. Americans who thought they could not afford another child simply aborted them. The Irish Catholics, who never voted republican, voted for Regan and they …show more content…
Many of these poor white Irish Americans, who voted for Trump, are under the Affordable Healthcare Act. It is the only insurance they have, and many of them thank God for it, but still they voted for Trump because he said he would make it better and he would bring back coal jobs. This week I watched you and Mike Pence take the beginning stages to kill healthcare for over 20 million Americans. I watched you lies and viewed your smiles as you told the American People Affordable Healthcare is failing and it must be repealed. I knew immediately you were lying and that this was nothing other than a political move that would allow you to make bigger tax cuts for Americas rich, because that is who wants it dead. Shame on you PAUL RYAN, shame on you for selling out the poor Irish and Scotch Irish. Shame on you for using Jesus as a hidden reason to kill healthcare, because I’m a catholic like you, I know Jesus would never harm anyone and use abortion or anything else as a ploy to bring harm on others. You are not a good Catholic Irishmen; you are a hateful greedy human being who cares for nothing other than yourself. Please don’t use your faith as an
This was in contrast to previous times with republicans like Nixon, who supported social programs,
While Carter worked to remove corporate regulations that hurt laborers and consumers alike, Reagan showed great concern for the economy which trampled over worker and consumer concern. Regan wanted to replace environmental laws and regulations and allow businesses to decide what to do for themselves. Reagan continued to lower corporate taxes, which would ultimately hurt his citizens greatly. An example of this was Social Security cuts. Over three hundred thousand people suffered from Social Security and disability benefits cuts.
In the 1980’s when President Regan was president, he had such a personality that he made many Americans to believe his conservative ideas. With that we had periods of economic highs, soaring stock market profits which made a lot of people a lot of money. We had a turning point in the Cold War with the Soviet Union, and also had triumphed in American foreign policies. In 1981 Regan formed a coalition with the conservative Democrats and then passes major tax cuts. The people are happy with what Regan is doing and reelects him again in 1984.
Not only did he cut tax rates, but the Tax Reform Act of 1986 simplified the income-tax code by eliminating many tax shelters, reducing the number of deductions and tax brackets. Finally, Reagan gave the workers an ultimatum when members of the federal air traffic controllers union (PATCO) went on strike, violating a federal regulation, and ended up firing more than 11,000 of the controllers, sending a strong signal that union workers needn’t be
“I hope you’re all Republicans” (“Ronald” 4), were the words of Ronald Reagan as he was joking with his doctors after getting shot shortly after his inauguration. Evidently, most Americans were Republican in the 1960s and 1970s. Ronald Regan played a big factor in the swing of the U.S. public opinion. Clearly, Reagan was a strong representative of the Conservative side. He was able to improve the plagued economy, which he had inherited.
Ronald Reagan and the Conservative Resurgence The rising tide of a new capitalism, a powerful intellectual movement that is still rising, created political momentum that swept Ronald Reagan to prominence and power. After two decades of sexual revolution and moral degradation of American society, this wave crashed down on the American people with a strong and powerful force, calling for greater moral standards and more freedom to the people. This Reagan revolution restored faith in America and changed the social values in the United States for the better.
Chapter 15: The Rise of the New Right • Former actor & governor of California, Ronald Regan brought charisma to Washington, declaring America was destined to lead the free world and “stand tall” again • Promised to fight the Cold War without compromise, lower taxes, diminish govt. interfere w/ economy and restore family values • Cut taxes from the wealthiest from 70% to 28% • Nation recovered from post-Vietnam recession • Cut back on enforcement of environmental protection laws • A new tolerance of diversity in America made it difficult to punish individuals to performed acts that were supposed to be private choices • Conservatives felt that the Republican Party was headed into liberal tendencies “wooly mammoth” needed to change direction
President Obama spoke to the American people that government run health care with higher taxation, larger prices, and letting the insurance agencies operate with little to no rules were “wrong”. It was to improve and provide all Americans with affordable health care and easier access to doctors and medical care and offer subsidies
Since Trump took office, Republicans have proposed laws that would rob 32 million people of health insurance, fund a border wall by drastically reducing poverty programs, and cut $1.8 trillion from Medicare, Medicaid and Obamacare in order to pay for tax cuts for the
In 2017, Republicans take on changing the health-care industry was for each senator to find the best solution for his or her state. The most perilous rift sits between Republicans from states that accepted the federal funding to enlarge Medicaid coverage to millions more Americans, and those from states that turned down that expansion. Earlier I mentioned how many do not look at congress as a business, but indulge in emotions to fix an issue. Many of the Republicans from non-Medicaid-expansion states are more
The real debate is how can we accomplish the goal of universal healthcare in the most affordable and sustainable way. The United States is evaluated as a wealthy country, yet there are more penurious countries who provide health maintenance, paid through higher taxes. “In the United Kingdom and other European countries, payroll taxes average 37% - much higher than the 15.3% payroll taxes paid by the average US worker” (Gregory). With this data, the only reform would be to end the private health insurance companies of dominant health services, and incorporate a single payer system. Conversely, it is factual that taxes will rise, but the implementation of universal healthcare will better the health of American citizens.
Unemployment rates began to increase. Over time, Reagan had increased taxes 11 times, mainly on the middle class. When Reagan had left office, he had tripled the national debt of United States. This had affected the United States and led to several issues later on. This is the reason Reaganomics had both aided some and destroyed others.
Health care should not be considered a political argument in America; it is a matter of basic human rights. Something that many people seem to forget is that the US is the only industrialized western nation that lacks a universal health care system. The National Health Care Disparities Report, as well as author and health care worker Nicholas Conley and Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), strongly suggest that the US needs a universal health care system. The most secure solution for many problems in America, such as wasted spending on a flawed non-universal health care system and 46.8 million Americans being uninsured, is to organize a national health care program in the US that covers all citizens for medical necessities.
Additionally, they were able to protect the country when it was vulnerable and going through hardships. One reason that both men are so admired is because they ruled the country with similar practices and principles. However, their distinct methods during the presidency also allowed them to succeed
Obama Care also known as the Affordable Care Act signed in by president Barack Obama in 2010, This was to insure that all the Americans will have free access to medical care if they got sick and it would will help reduce the growth of healthcost spending in the country, hence in economic and stability growth among the citizens of America. Right now in the USA the ObamaCare law is a permanent part of the landscape, The USA republicans said that, despite the high court decision upholding various subsidies, the law itself remains the largest and dangerous threat to health care. Although it has its own benefits, Obamacare is increasing costs for hardworking families. Republicans argue that many people have to pay higher costs or see their former policies canceled. Which is leading to poor economy and increasing of debts and deaths within the country.
