Life In The Middle Colonies

Josh: The New England Colonies is a great place to live and this is why you should live here. Payton: The geography is great because there are large mountains with abundant trees. Josh: And trade routes are great with the Atlantic Ocean in such close access.

Each region of the English colonies has weaknesses and strengths, but in my opinion, the Middle Colonies was the most viable as a separate country. For the reason that the Middle Colonies have a diversified economy, they are self-suficiente agriculture (cause of their fertile lowlands), also they have timber and animals (fur) in their territory. However, they have a good clima, presenting hot summers and mild winters, which do not disturb agriculture as in others regions. The last reason is the religious freedom, people were able to believe in what they want, this grow the quantity of imigrants form diversified parts of the world (growing the number of people working and contributing to diversification of culture). Intro In the 17th and 18th century the three colonial regions were all similar in the way they farmed but differed in what they farmed, who farmed it and who they sold it to. The economy of the middle and southern colonies differed from that of new england because it was based off of creating a surplus of cash crops farmed by slaves to sell and create a fortune, While New England manufactured ships and large amounts of iron while also using subsistence farming and fishing to create a humble economy which was just enough to feed themselves and their families. Exportation Of Goods/ What Was Farmed Similarities between the colonial regions included the recurring theme of farming and exporting goods to foreign lands.

Northern and Southern Colonies in the Early 1700s During the 1700s, the economies of the Northern and Southern colonies differed majorly from one another. The Northern colonies were completely opposite of the Southern colonies economy wise. Life in society was quite different considering the fact that there was an influx of immigrants (Textbook). This helped to create a very diverse population in both of the colonies (Textbook).

The middle colonies had a wide range of terrains from coastal beaches to soaring mountains that lied inland. The wide range allowed the middle colonies to have a unique and diverse economy. For instance its costal shore was optimal for harbors and docks. Also due to its location between the southern and New England colonies it made it a prime spot for reaching all 13 colonies. Its rich soil allowed farmers to plant a variety of crops.

Within the 13 colonies, it is relatively easy to see where the similarities and differences lie between each of the three regions. While each of the colonies, specifically referring to those of the North and South, did receive a charter to make their voyage and settlement in America, they did have varying motivations as to why they wished to make a new start. Beginning with the Southern colonies, the settlers of this area had one particular goal: unimaginable wealth. While their initial hope of stumbling upon riches never did occur, the rapid production of tobacco granted many of the settlers the wealth they desired. The economic possibilities of the Americas were also attractive to the Dutch, who settled in the middle region of the country,

• Spent a lot of time trading goods and exported agricultural/food related products to other colonies. Although it was difficult to farm here, they managed to grow things like pumpkins, squash, and beans for trade. • Molasses and Syrup was also a common good up for trade. It was usually made into rum and whisky. •

I would have preferred British Middle colonies to live. First of all, the middle colonies were the most diverse ethnically and culturally. This colony is full of different kind of religion, which helps us to know about religious and traditional importance of many religions. There were many religious tolerant. Another thing I like farming so the land in the middle colonies was very fertile where we can grow many types of crops and food so that I don 't have to pay money for fruits, vegetables and food.

Welcome to the Middle colonies. Have fun with your chores. A lot of work is required in these colonies which are now known as: New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. There was a lot of farming involved in these settlements. Although there is a lot of work to be done, when that is finished, it’s game time.

Settlement in North America was separated in three regions. The New England colonies, the Middle colonies, and the Southern colonies each had ideal living conditions. The south had a strong agricultural society, and many agricultural advancements. New England had a strong economy, with industrialization and urbanization.

In the 1700’s , people were travelling from Europe and England to join the Colonies. These colonies had many resources available, and the port cities of New England were quickly turning into trading centers. One of the most abundant commodities in New England were its trees. Especially the white pine trees, which, untouched, had grown tall, straight and wide, optimal for the masts of British naval ships. Meanwhile, in England, most of the suitable trees had already been harvested and used, therefore they saw the opportunity using these trees from the colonies presented.

In the Middle Colonies, there was fertile soil and part of it was hilly and part of it was flat. There were some ‘mountains’, wide valleys, and fast rivers. In the Southern Colonies, like the Middle Colonies, the land there was fertile. It was very humid there. Their summers were very warm and rainy, and in the winters, it was a mild climate so it did not get very cold.

People from many nations, religions, and cultural backgrounds settled in the middle colonies. These people came because of what the colonies had to offer. They realized the middle colonies gave generous land grants and supported religious tolerance. They also wanted money, and the middle colonies had fertile soil and a pleasant climate, perfect for farming. People were tired of being poor and persecuted for their beliefs.

It has fertile soil for growing crops.  They have long growing seasons.   They get lots of rain.  

Life in the colonies would be hard but, some people had it easy. There was rich and poor and people in the middle. There were also many things to do and be. Some aspects in life are down below and there are many more like African Americans, leisure, and cities. So there are many aspects of life in the colonies and some people had it easy and some didn’t.
