This paper describes and analyzes a life review interview with an older adult. The purpose of this paper is to discuss, record and reflect on an older adult’s life in order to evaluate them on the last stage of Erik Erickson’s theory of psychosocial development; integrity versus despair. This paper will also focus on the elements of a life review as well as the reflections of the interview on the part of the author. JC is a seventy-seven year old white male who lives by himself in New York City. He was born in London, England, and was an only child. During his child hood he moved around quite often due to the fact that his father’s job required frequent travel. JC attended boarding schools and received an education. He eventually graduated Harvard with a Masters in Business Administration. He married and had two children. He worked in the advertising field for thirty-five years having been a CEO for one of the two agencies he worked for. Julian is currently divorced and his two children are grown. Throughout his middle adult hood he kept working at the Ralston Purina plant and continued to support his family. His wife was a school teacher at the local elementary school where she taught 4th grade. Now that he was older he had the ability to go on some family vacations during the summer. They had the opportunity to travel all around the United States and they had the opportunity to travel to several different countries. Some of the events that he remembers during this time period would be the first man on the moon, JFK assassination, and getting his first brand new car.
ARTICLE FOUR I chose, Settling Sown and Aging Out: Toward an Interactionist Theory of Desistance and the Transition to Adulthood by Massoglia & Uggen (2010), due to the extremely thorough nature of the research that was conducted. The criminal justice system has always been focused on delinquency as well as desistance, and in this study the researchers brought in numerous hypotheses to test, to determine what exactly enables the aging out process. The interesting aspect of this literature, not only that is connects with desistance which we have learned about this semester, it incorporates life course aspects and variables that occur in people’s lives that possibly play a role in desistance.
He grew up in the Canarsie Bayview projects of the New York housing authority. This event had a specific toll on Nava, for he began to exhibit depression and constantly blamed himself for what occurred.
