Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy Book Review
This novel is set in 1912. Turner Buckminster, the son of Reverend Buckminster (preacher in Phippsburg, Maine), has just moved from Boston, Massachusetts to Phippsburg, Maine and is constantly being teased for simple misunderstandings, not to mention being automatically disliked by the boys of Phippsburg for playing baseball differently than the “cool” boys do. Turner meets a girl, Lizzie Bright Griffin, befriends her, despite his difficulty with social situations. Turner has to save Lizzie’s family and friends before they all must leave Malaga Island. But that means standing up to the authorities, including Turner’s Father. Turner has to gain self confidence and he learns to stand up for

Turner tries to find stuff while he is in Maine. While he tries to find stuff to do he meets a girl named Lizzie. Turner thinks Lizzie is a brat and is not very nice, but she turns out to be kinda like Turner and nice. The more Turner hangs out with Lizzie the more they get along. Turner is still a little discombobulated because he still trying to get used to living in Maine.
The theme in this novel is to be honest and be kind to others. Don't let things that people say hurt you and don't let people bring you down. Turner and Lizzie are good examples of being kind and nice. This novel is a great example of how people can be treated and how people shouldn’t be treated. No one is perfect and that is what counts. Just because someone may be a little different looking doesn’t mean you can’t be friends with them.
Turner was playing baseball one day and some boys came up to him and told him he didn’t play right. The boys made fun of Tuner because he played differently than they did. When he was being made fun of he tried to brush it off and act like nothing ever happened. Turner had lost self confidence and is trying to gain it back. Turner isn’t very social so he didn’t go through that issue very well. When Turner was trying to gain confidence he meets Lizzie who helps him. Lizzie tells him that no one can make you upset, you make yourself

change: change means that you do something differently Seedfolks by Paul Fleischman is a book about a girl named kim who plants lima beans, she does this hoping she would gain a connection with her dad. as she plants the lima beans people around her community see what she has done and it inspires them to also plant a seed and make a difference in their community. and they do this because they know that they can help make a difference in their community by planting a seed so people will see their plant and it will inspire them to plant something of their own. in this book there are thirteen different characters and they all have their stories, different ethnicities and they all get impacted by kim who starts a garden. two people that got impacted were wendell and sea young.
It is one drop of water, one mistake, that ripples outward until we don’t even realize it is there anymore. Brent’s one mistake travels with him, rippling far away from home, in both direct and indirect ways. Whirligig, the novel, by Paul Fleischman demonstrates how one small choice can lead to many consequences, but direct and indirect, that we may never even be aware of. Brent knows he has impacted many other people, but throughout the book he discovers that it also impacted himself.
Friendship. It is something that is essential to human life. Without it, life can be miserable. However, spoiling children is something the world should be without. It happens constantly, though.
Symbols and themes are usually what makes a reader understand and interpret the book they are reading because it gives the reader a perspective on what they are reading. Also how each detail connects and how a symbol shows a specific theme and then shows how it can affect each situation that is shown. In the book my Antonia by Willa Cather she leads each situation the main characters go through using specific symbol that lead to bad things that changes and molds the characters and their way of living and thinking. In my Antonia Jim lives in a farm a little wealthier than others around. Living by Jim and his grandparents and their workers lived a Bohemian family.
Samuel Smiles, a scottish author and governor, said, “Hope is like the sun, which, as we journey toward it, casts the shadow of our burden behind us.” Roland Smith wrote a great short story based on the topic of hope and determination. Roland Smith wrote a short story, “The Ghost Bird”. This story is about a girl named Hannah who teams up with Mr. Tanner to find the rare ivorybills that are on Mr. Tanner’s property and never gives up on hope to find them. The author uses characters personality traits and setting to convey the theme of even in the most difficult times, never lose hope.
The main character, Jess, meets a wonderful girl named Leslie. Throughout the book, she changed his opinion of imagination, and he fell in love with her. Soon following this, they experience a fallout. Throughout the novel, Patterson displays themes of significant tragedy, grief because of the people stressing the tragedy, and the quest for identity.
Gemma often thinks about her family and tries to forget about reality and remember little moments from her home. But, then she wakes up and sees that she is no longer there and is still stolen from what makes her happy. A signpost that is important to the story is contrasts and contradictions. When Gemma is taken her first thing she thinks of when she sees Ty is that he is going to hurt her.

Turner does this act of kindness for Elwood because he knows it is important to him. This small deed Turner does for Elwood truly shows how their friendship changes him considering he would not have done that in the beginning of the book. It also shows how strong their friendship truly is. Finally, Turner reflects on his action of taking on Elwood’s story and life. Turner reflects to himself, “In some ways Turner had been telling Elwood’s story ever since his friend died, through years and years of revisions, of getting it right, as he stopped being the desperate alley cat of his youth and turned into a man he thought Elwood would have been proud of” (204).
In Incidents In the Life of A Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs, Harriet shares her experience in slavery and how she overcame trials presented in the form of her master and mistress, and how she battled constant separation from her family and children. In order to protect herself from her master, who constantly attempts to pressure Harriet into a sexual relationship with him, Harriet becomes involved in a relationship with a white man and gains two children. However, in order to escape slavery, Harriet stays for seven years in a small shed in her grandmother’s home and eventually gains her freedom. The book shows that in a system of slavery, family ties and the idea of motherhood are two things that are almost unachievable due to the uncertainty
Friendship is like a rollercoaster. There are ups and downs, but in the end you will always have fun. In the book Speak, The main character is shown as an outcast archetype. In most novels with the Hero’s Journey the main character is portrayed as a hero, making this book unique and unlike others. An outcast is a person who has been rejected by society or a social group.
In this novel, the character Minny Jackson comes across many obstacles. As the novel, goes on she eventually begins to find herself more, and gets the courage to finally free herself from the power of her husband, Leroy, as well as Miss Hilly. When you find you find confidence and strength, you can get out of a bad situation. Minny Jackson was a strong lady, who everyone would look up to because no matter what was going on at her household or in her life she would never let that affect her interaction with anyone. Although, Minny had a sassy mouth and sassed everyone.
The protagonist of this novel, Lily Owens, has always had a troublesome life. Both her parents, Terrence Owens, also known as T. Ray, and Deborah Fontanel are ridden with illness, sadly caused from each other. Lily also meets a new family in this novel after running away from her cruel father who abuses her. This family is also dealing with mental illness. August Boatwright is a member of this family and has been surrounded by this sickness for more than half of her life.
In Lois Lowry’s novel, The Giver, Jonas is the hero and the protagonist. Jonas is an eleven year old boy who Ii different from everyone else. Jonas is a sensitive and intelligent boy who grew up in a community where nothing is different. He has a strange ability that no one has. Jonas looks just like an ordinary boy who is not different from others, but he has a strange ability where he could see colors.
