This is both self-evident, and also supported by an increasing body of research. It is not necessary to be physically harmed in order to suffer lasting harm. Words and gestures are quite enough. In fact, the old saying, "Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never harm me" is more or less exactly backwards. For the most part, physical damage sustained in a fist fight heals, especially damage that is sustained during the resilient childhood years. What is far more difficult to mend is the primary wound that bullying victims suffer which is damage to their emotions; to their identities. Bullying is an attempt to instill fear and self-loathing. Being the repetitive target of bullying damages your ability to view yourself as a desirable, capable and effective individual. It only means that words also harm us not only by hurting us physically from time to time but words also take a lot more damage to us emotionally. Why do people deal with loneliness? Maybe it’s because no one likes to be with them or the person itself is bullied by people. Being lonely is not okay because you have nothing to talk with, to laugh and to share about our
Through the higher risk of depression, anxiety and panic attacks, bullying can have a lasting effect on a child, causing them to have a damaged adulthood. The effect is seen whereas adults who were previously a victim and a bully are fifteen times as likely have panic attacks, 5 times greater risk for depression, and 10 times the chance more of suicidal thoughts than adults who were uninvolved in bullying. Nowadays, bullying has a different stance through social media, allowing kids to bully without even being in the same room as one another. With the increased times kids see or talk to their peers through the internet, having a bully close to them has the possibility to become very harmful. Bullying can cause the bullied person to bully others.
Dr. Terry Ehiorobo is a principal who keeps a blog. One article from his blog is about bullying. He says this, “The issue of bullying has plagued many school systems in the US. The bullying is defined as “repeated verbal, physical, social or psychological aggressive behavior by a person or group that is intended to cause harm, distress or fear” (Victoria state government) The bullying is stronger in the adolescent because in those age are too insecure and have a lot of questions about himself, this is the topic that Stephen king use in his book Carrie when she got abused by her classmates during her childhood and adolescent. Based in the following citation “the bullying takes a special breed of person to cause pain to others, but the one most hurt by bullying is the bully himself- thought that’s not at first obvious and the effects worsen over the life cycle” (Marano) we can conclude that this citation applies at the situations of Stephen king’s book for example the bullying that suffer Carrie when she was a child because her religion was different and her classmates make jokes and laughing about her beliefs causing insecurities in Carrie; this did that with the time she had
Bullies are usually stronger and victims are usually perceived as weaker and unable to protect themselves.” (Masterson,1997) Bullying expands in many aspects of everyday life; from schoolchildren and teenagers, to adults , working environments and even spouses and family members. Considering that the first signs of bullying appear among schoolchildren, we should examine it in its infancy, that is, bullying in early years and school life, which in turn becomes with the passage of years violence and in some cases even crime. As far as bullying at school is concerned, “one definition is that a student is being bullied or victimized, when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time , to negative actions on the part of one or more other students.”

The Harsher Consequences of Face to Face Bullying Meet Rochelle, a previous student who told her best friend something very personal. Her best friend told everyone and kids from her school started bullying her. They would call her names and it came to the point where she stopped going to school, stopped eating, had to go to the hospital because she purposely cracked her head open on the sidewalk, and tried to hang herself. (“Stories from People Just Like You”, 22) Just like Rochelle, children all over the world get bullied face to face and never say anything about it. When faced with bullying, students are intimidated to go to school and feel unsafe outside of school, so they detach themselves from the world.

As a major problem in schools around the world, the issue of bullying must be addressed in order to keep students physically and emotionally safe. The act of bullying not only affects the well-being of the person being targeted, but it also affects the rest of the school community too. It can be difficult for teachers, principals, and superintendents to make an ethical decision about what to do when bullying occurs because there are misunderstandings about what bullying is, leading to the improper identification of situations.

Bullying is a widespread problem in our schools and communities and has a negative impact on students’ right to learn in a safe and secure environment without fear. It is a process in which one person repeatedly uses his/her superior strength or influence to mistreat, attack or force another person to do something (Van der Werf, 2014).
