Lord Voldemort, He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named, or the Dark Lord. Different titles that instill fear to the hearts of wizards and witches alike. Behind of all these monikers is a man who desired for power and superiority to hide his insecurity towards his origin as an orphan. Tom Marvolo Riddle was connected to both the House of Gaunt and the House of Slytherin. He was the last descendant of Salazar Slytherin, one of the founders of Hogwarts School of Wizardry and his ability to use parseltongue—ability to communicate/ understand snakes—was a proof of his lineage. His mother Merope was the last of the House of Gaunt, an ancient and formerly wealthy Wizarding family that was noted for producing individuals with violent and unstable personalities due to generations of inbreeding. On the other hand, his father, Tom Riddle Sr. was a wealthy muggle (non-magical) that was seduced by Merope Gaunt through the use of a love potion. His mother died right after his birth and his father left his mother after the effect of the love potion wore off and as a result, he was sent to an orphanage. …show more content…

Using his likeable and charismatic facade, he was able to hide his goals to attain immortality and eradicate all those against him even Dumbledore, a man considered to be the greatest wizard of his time. His interests were narrowly focused on the usefulness of people, objects, and power to his goals. As a result, he treated everybody as pawns that can be easily discarded and replaced. He was obsessed in gaining power and clearing half-bloods and muggle-born alike through his pure-blood supremacist ideals. An amazing fact was that book was also a training guide for the men. It also had a different and shorter name called “Blue Book.” Fun Fact
He basically taught the local villagers how to protect themselves from the vampires by using garlic and wooden stakes. He was possibly one of the earliest and greatest wizards in the Asian village. Occasionally, the two boys will visit Muff Potter in jail, where he does not know that the crime that he was accused of is false. He thanks the boys continuously for all that they are doing from him, but in reality, even though Tom and Huck are providing his with things, they have the key to get him out of jail and out of the mess that he is in, because they know that Potter did not actually kill doctor Robinson. This is where the change in Tom occurs. In court, Tom testifies for Muff Potter. He tells his story, about how he and Huck - whom he does not mention - were hiding in the trees when the three men came by and got into a fight.
Paul Revere was a respected silversmith and avid colonialist that showed his courage and valorousness to the American people by giving them his knowledge and leadership. Paul Revere was born on New Year’s Day 1735, on a shipping wharf in North End Boston. Paul was the third out of twelve children, and eventually the eldest surviving son. Revere attended North End Writing School where he learned reading, writing, and arithmetic.
When he was eleven, his father died, which changed his whole life. Instead of going to school in England, like all other boys his age, he went to a school where he lived. He did not let his lack of proper education stop him. He overcame his rough childhood and became one of the most powerful leaders of all time. Without this man, the colonies would never be as successful as the were.
He was raised in gentry household and shared many values with his peers. Although he took part in execution of the King, he never thought himself to be an enemy to the crown. Cromwell was even sympathetic to the Crown and thought it to be a part of England. It was not before Charles I had fled and gathered an army that he saw him as an enemy. Previously to that he had considered placing Prince James, Charles I son on the throne.
When, in The Half-Blood Prince, Harry views Dumbledore’s memory of his first meeting with Tom Riddle, Harry observes how the orphans “Were all wearing the same kind of grayish tunic. They looked reasonably well-cared for, but there was no denying that this was a grim place in which to grow up.” When Dumbledore tells him he is a wizard, Riddle admits, “I knew I was different.” Meaning, both Harry and Riddle were friendless and acutely different from those they lived with due to their magical abilities. Yet, the distinction, which concerns Dumbledore, is Riddle’s “Obvious instincts for cruelty, secrecy, and domination,” (6:13, 275) due to his deeds towards the other orphans.
After leaving school he began recruiting followers and later became the most feared wizard of all time.
His family was considered to be dysfunctional. Tom was of German descent as well as he was born into a bilingual family. He was born into a religious family and he later learned to justify his actions which made them more acceptable in his point of view playing a large part in the way he acted and responded to situations. Thomas Horn (the father) was abusive to his children. Tom left home by age thirteen because he was tired of being beating by his father.

In Potter’s world, Voldemort split his soul into eight fragments, called Horcruxes, in order to escape death. I previously discussed in short paper one how Aristotle would argue that these Horcruxes would not be suitable bodies for a human soul. I agreed, for the Horcruxes do not seem to be characteristic of Voldemort because they do not feel the emotion or pain Voldemort feels. When analyzing Horcruxes, another philosophical question regarding personal identity arises. Sider, utilizing the stage view theory, would deem all the Horcruxes identical to Voldemort, but wouldn’t necessarily deem Nagini identical to Ravenclaw’s Diadem.
He studied at a military school and was an officer by the age of 16. Anything that was thrown his way, his Grande Armee could defeat or overcome it. One of the only things he truly cared about was his strong army, and he did everything in his power to connect with his men. As said in Sources of the Western Tradition Volume II: From the Renaissance to the Present, ”Recognizing the importance of good morale, he sought to inspire his troops by appealing to their honor, their vanity, and their love of France.” (Sources 112).
