Mckinley Rogers 10/22/15 World History Prompt #1 The Magna Carta was an agreement between King John and a group of English barons in response to years of the king’s bad ruling and excessive taxation. Many english nobles resented the ongoing growth of the king’s power and rebelled during the reign of King John. The nobles wrote the charter and forced King John to affix his seal on the Magna Carta.

The Constitution of the United States was a document that established America’s national government and fundamental laws, and guaranteed certain basic rights for its citizens. It was signed on September seventeenth, 1787 and used to replace the Articles of Confederation. The Magna Carta was a document that established the principle that everybody, including the king, was subject to the law. It was signed in 1215, issued by King John of England. The Petition of Right was signed in 1627 and was written by Parliament as a way to stop King Charles I from overreaching authority.

The principles established by the Magna Carta and the English Bill of Rights were important to the American colonists because they both limited the king's power and created the British government that we have today. The Magna Carta, that was called the new Chapter of Liberties and was signed by King John after he was forced by the support of the church officials and the help of barons. The Rule of Law, Government by agreement or contract, and the basic rights were all parts of the Magna Carta that brought limitations on the king and gave the people more power. Historians agree that the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution serve to secure the rights of American citizens, while others say that it does not affect the rights of American citizens. The declaration of Independence and the Constitution serves the rights of Americans. The Declaration of Independence is the most important document that involves the rights of Americans.

The Declaration of Independence v. The Constitution The Declaration of Independence is more significant than the United States Constitution, for the principles in the Declaration revolutionized the citizens’ thinking towards themselves and the role of government. As aforementioned, the ethics in the Declaration caused people’s viewpoints to be more respectful towards themselves. For example, the Declaration of Independence begins discussing the unalienable rights of men; these unalienable rights are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The colonists are essentially stating that King Charles III is not abiding these rights, causing them to grow agitated.

1. The English Bill of Rights: The English Bill of Rights was significant because it created a lot of rules that parliament passed. The bill created a separation of powers and limited the king and queen. These rights gave the people of England more rights and power as citizens.

The Declaration empowered citizens to stand up and make changes to government while the Bill of Rights spells out our personal liberties and rights. Both documents serve as a rulebook on how we are treated by the government and continue to be an important part of America’s past and future. The document clearly sets forth a strong statement of the colonists' rights and freedoms. The early Americans used this document as a rallying cry in their fight for their independence. The principles and ideas set out in the Virginia Declaration of Rights were used by the colonists to justify their actions and to persuade their countrymen to join the fight for their freedom. The Magna Carta did establish the foundation for democracy. For example, number nine in the Magna Carta and number ten on the U.S. Bill of Rights are similar. They both are similar because they both talk about fines and cruel punishment. Another example of rights on how the Magna Carta established democracy is number one on the U.S. Bill of Rights, and number one also on the Magna Carta. These are similar to us because they both talk about religion, and freedom of religion.

The English nobles taking a stand against King John was probably one of the most important event in European history. King John's unpopular method of rule led to a rebellion by the Barons. King John had no chance of winning and was threatened by the Barons, so he was reluctantly forced to sign a document called, The Magna Carta,” which limited the monarchy's powers and granted the nobles liberties. The Magna Carta is not only significant in the European countries. In fact, it inspired the American colonists to used the Magna Carta as a model when creating the Bill of Rights and the U.S. Constitution.

In November 1216, a revised version of the Magna Carta was issued in his name, and another version the following year, after the French had been expelled from England. The Magna Carta is regarded to as the foundation of democracy in England. It limited the circumstances under which the King could raise money without the consent of the people. The 1225 verison of the magna Carta had been granted explicitly in return for a payment of tax by the whole kingdom, and this paved the way for the first summons of Parliament is 1265, to approve the granting of taxation.

“To no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice” (Clause 40). The word Magna Carta is medieval Latin for “great charter”. The magna carta established a rule of law, limited power of the government, and guaranteed rights to individuals. The magna carta was a charter that established a rule of laws.
