Marcus Brutus: Noble Or Guilty?

It is astonishing how one man can take away another’s life so quickly and easily. It is alarming how one could argue that the murder of Julius Caesar was a group effort, when there is only one man who is behind this horrific feat of hatred. It is amazing how anyone could think that the killing of our powerful leader-to-be could be justified by any reasoning. Ladies and gentlemen, we are standing in the very same room as the murderer of the great Julius Caesar. May I direct your attention to the man guilty of this crime, Marcus Brutus.

What— did one of us strike down the most powerful man in the world in order to support robbers? Should we now dirty our fingers with lowly bribes and sell the mighty offices that we hold for whatever gold we can get our hands on? I'd rather be a dog and howl at the moon that be that kind of Roman.” (Shakespeare 169) Brutus is painfully obvious (at least he is from Cassius’ point of view) when he confides to Cassius that he believes that Cassius wasnt as honest about what his intent and motives for killing Caesar were.

In Shakespeare 's’ The Tragedy Of Julius Caesar, one of the main characters, Marcus Brutus, is found dead by the noble Mark Antony, and is called “The Noblest Roman Of Them All” (Julius Caesar Act 5, scene 5, 68–72). Antony 's’ statement is a true one for many reasons. The first reason would be that Brutus was a man who valued his friendships over all else.

As Antony was continuing to deliver his speech, he brought out Caesar’s body and states “Through this the well-beloved Brutus stabbed, and as he plucked his cursed steel away,”(III, ii,177-178). Although Antony’s claim about seeing Caesar being stabbed is false, the body of Caesar is evidence; that Brutus and the conspirators did murder Caesar. Antony uses Caesar’s body as an example and evidence that the conspirators are cruel and corrupted. As a result, the graphic detail about the stabbing caused an outraged by the people. Antony’s evidence overpowers the effectiveness Brutus’ speech on the people, thus the citizens now believe that Brutus and the Senate are vicious.

However, Brutus continually feels the need to defend his actions and justify his crime. If he is truly confident in his deed, he would not stammer to find justifications. Yet, Brutus may not want power, he may really want justice. In his mind, murdering Caesar, was the only route to go.

Brutus uses connotation and logic to appeal to pathos and logos by stating, “Then none have I offended. I have done no more to Caesar than you shall do to Brutus. Initially, after reading the story, I was confused on whether or not Brutus counted as a betrayer or a patriot and it seemed almost impossible to find out, but as I thought more on it, I discovered he had limited time before Caesar was officially crowned so he had limited options. However, I believe Brutus was a patriot because instead of joining the conspiracy right away when he is offered the chance by Cassius, he refuses because he does not think Caesar deserves something so harsh. Once Cassius plants the fake notes from Rome Brutus decides to kill Caesar because he doesn’t want the people becoming Caesars slaves. So instead of wanting to kill Caesar out of jealousy like Cassius, he just wanted to kill him in order for him not to turn the people of Rome into slaves. When Brutus was talking to the conspirators Brutus was going back and forth think if he should help the conspirators kill Julius Caesar. He was going back and forth because he was thinking of the power he could have and could rule Rome. The reason behind Brutus killing Caesar was for the better of Rome. If Brutus would not have killed Caesar, Rome would have turned into a dictatorship, and in turn it would have ruined Rome and all of its people. Brutus did not kill Julius just for the power to rule Rome, he killed Julius to save Rome from Caesar’s dictatorship.

However, Brutus is guilty of first-degree murder because of the act of premeditation and the act of terrorism. Brutus killed Caesar in the first degree because his killing was premeditated. This means that the killing was planned out beforehand. It was premeditated when Brutus talked to the conspirators.

is Brutus a betrayer or patriot? this question has been debated for so long but with all the information I have been presented I believe that Brutus is a patriot. Brutus kill Caesar because he wanted to to stand up and save Rome and her people. At the battle Philippi after believing that he had done all he could for Rome Brutus then decides to kill himself.this is after he tried his best and and after he could fight no more he gave his life for Rome. While one may disagree with my opinion because he did deceive some of the fellow leaders of Rome and did kill Caesar but Brutus only did this for Rome 's sake.

Honor in the world gives people a reason to fight for the things that they believe in. Throughout The Tragedy of Julius Caesar, Brutus has had to make many tough decisions that display the great honor within him. In The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare's, it is made very obvious that Brutus is an honorable man. Brutus preserves his honor by taking care of Rome’s issues with good intentions and without going too far.

Brutus and Cassius are two prominent conspirators in the play Julius Caesar; one of these two fits Aristotle's depiction of a tragic hero. The difference between a normal hero and a tragic hero is that the latter will have a tragic flaw that keeps them from succeeding. These characters are often sympathetic and will cleave to the reader's pity. Firstly, we shall discuss Cassius. He was a man of questionable character.

Cassius influenced Brutus to conspire against Caesar by stating, Caesar “is now become a god… and his name has been sounded more than [Brutus’s]” (Act 1, Scene 2, Line 118-145-6). Cassius’s arguments convinced Brutus in proving Caesar's murder would be just, but Caesar’s death is unjust because he is being murdered out of Brutus and Cassius’s jealousy. Both of the individuals are envious of the power that Caesar is being given by the people of Rome and want to end his life before they will lose their own power in the senate after Caesar becomes king. Brutus’ naive mind was easily convinced by Cassius that Caesar was not the best choice to assume the Roman throne because he would not listen to their political thoughts.
