Martin Luther King Old Major Speech Analysis

Martin Luther King once said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” This quote analyzes that people can’t get rid of hatred by hating more but, by love and the hate will vanish. Certainly well as motivating message was one very clear and accurate. It can be confirmed through the reaction of the people, where he managed to capture thousands of followers who believed and still believe in its principles. King Jr. showed with action and example his position, which generated respect for the listener. For example, we can see in the video the constant attention of listeners to the message, the quorum, and the ovation approving and accepting to his call. And myself evaluating Martin Luther King Jr. as a speaker from 1 to 10, will certainly apply the highest score.

Additionally, Dr. King describes the problem that is still present at his time. He mentions back to the documents when the country starts a new government. In the Declaration of Independence it states that all men are created equal. That would include African Americans, but according to Dr. King’s speech it says, “One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacle of segregation and the chains of discrimination” (Dream 3). The blacks were promised freedom, yet they are not as equal as the whites.

Through peaceful demonstration, King tried to bring change in the society. In the past, colored people have waited for more than 340 years to declare their freedom, said King. Martin Luther King’s desire is to see all human kinds to be respect and love one another. The segregation create huge wall between colored and other people so he wants to narrow the gap. When colored people wants to go the hotel or other places, the owners wouldn’t allow them to enter into their premises so he wants the next generation entitled to work, go to school, or to do anything equally with white people.

Martin Luther King has changed America tremendously, wouldn’t you agree? King has made very powerful writings but the two main speeches are “I Have a Dream” and “Letter From Birmingham Jail”. There is many of the three rhetorical appeals which are Pathos, Logos, and Ethos. There was one simple thing in both species, King wanted freedom but unfortunately he did not get that. He tried really hard because segregation got way out of control.

The movement can be compared to the Gandhian movement in India. Dr. King thought that using hate with hate would intensify the existence of evil in the universe. He wanted the forces to hate to meet the power of love and not defeat the white man, but win their much needed friendship. Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech is one of the most famous and powerful speeches of all time. Dr. King speaks about how the emancipation proclamation signed by Abraham Lincoln was supposed to free the slaves, but 100 years later, they are still not free.

On April 4, 1968, Robert F. Kennedy gave his remarks on the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Robert’s goal was to inform people on Martin Luther King’s journey and to strengthen people’s attitudes on the whole situation. Robert’s main points throughout the speech were how the country as a whole should move forward, why the states should not resort to violence but unity instead, and he also addressed that the country needed unity, love, and compassion.

Because of his leadership, bravery and sacrifice to make the world a better place, Martin Luther King was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize. His incredible public speaking skills and ability to properly get his message across can clearly be scene throughout the speech. Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most influential leaders of his time and played a crucial role in the African-American Civil Rights movement. Luther was a charismatic leader who took a firm stand against the oppressive and racist regime of the United States (US), devoting much of his life towards uniting the segregated African-American community of the US. His efforts to consolidate and harmonise the US into one country for all is reflected in many of his writings and speeches spanning his career. As a leader of his people, King took the stand to take radical measures to overcome the false promises of the sovereign government that had been addressing the issues of racial segregation through unimplemented transparent laws that did nothing to change the grim realities of the society. Hence, King’s works always had the recurring theme of the unity and strength of combined willpower.

Two score and 13 years ago people with colored skin were being segregated for everyday activities like drinking from a water fountain and going to school. Martin Luther King and many others were tired of not getting the treatment they were promised as a whole, so Martin Luther King wrote his famous “I have a Dream” speech, to address the problem that was sweeping the nation. He wanted to persuade the nation to treat Black people with equality and respect. The black population was not going to rest until they received their rights that they were promised when Abraham Lincoln said the “Emancipation Proclamation” . King has a dream and has faith that one day everyone will be equal, everyone will have rights, and that there will be everlasting

Although racial discrimination still existed, many famous activists such as Martin Luther King promoted their ideals in protests and in speeches. Most prominently, the “I have a dream” speech showed

His passionate demand for racial justice and an integrated society became popular throughout the Black community. His words proved to give the nation a new vocabulary to express what was happening to them. Martin was famously a pacifist, so in his speech, he advocated peaceful protesting and passively fighting against racial segregation.

However, white Americans cannot accept the fact that black Americans were also Americans as they were. It is the people who remember the foundations and morals on which America is built that understand the importance of individual human rights. He also claimed that we are all the same under the color of our skin. We are all humans. He presented a beautiful and convincing vision of equality for all that one day the country would change into a better version of it.

More than 50 years ago, Martin Luther King held the memorable speech “I have a dream”. His impressive rhetoric demanded racial justice, which became a basis for subsequent generations of black Americans. His words have later been used to achieve a better understanding of the social and political upheaval at the time. The main point of the speech is that all people are created equal and although not the case in America at the time, Martin Luther King felt that it should be the case in the future. The audience of the speech is considered very general, however, the speech was held in Washington meaning it is possible that the speech was an attempt to engage law and policy makers who work in the nation’s capital.
