Civil rights: The rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality. This is something everyone should be guaranteed to have. Today we are all equal, but it always wasn’t like that. Martin Luther King Jr. changed society forever. He was a civil rights activist who was also the leader of the Civil Rights Movement. King was a pacifist who believed in nonviolent protests. There were many protests he did. Among all these protests, there was one in particular that was very famous. It was the March on Washington. An anaphora is repeated phrases or words at the beginning of successive verses. Writers use anaphoras to help the audience remember certain points of the speech. Martin Luther King Jr. used many examples of anaphoras. One example is when he says “go back.” He was referring to the states of Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Georgia, and Louisiana. King did this to show how people were being rude and not treating them equalally because segregation laws were still active in the southern states. Another example of an anaphora is when he repeats “I have a dream.” He specifically said this to show that he has hope that one day everyone will be equal. King also wants everyone else to hope that it would happen and get support for the Civil Rights Movement. The last anaphora is “be satisfied.¨ In the paragraph, King says that we will not be satisfied until their goals are met and they get their rights back. When he says we, he is regarding regular citizens who have been mistreated. He wants the citizens to agree that they will only have the satisfaction if everyone participates and gives their rights

And letting the freedom bell ring throughout America, for every human of a culture, race, sex, and age to hear, and for them to have an understanding of how much America needs for all the discrimination to be stopped between its people, and for its civilization to not crumble apart, just like other societies when they had brutal wars in their fatherlands.
Many variables affect what makes someone a hero; the actions of one hero could have a long-lasting impact on one and be completely forgettable to another. Mostly what defines a person with the tile are present struggles that the society is directly affected by. The public tends to be more appreciative when change is happening in front of them and for their benefit. Martin Luther King Jr. is one of the most important activists in the struggle for African-American equality even today, almost 40 years later. Martin Luther King Jr. as we know him today is the person who led the American civil rights movement. He is considered a hero by most people and he is the author of one of the most famous speeches in history, the “I Have a Dream” speech. Martin Luther King Jr. is known for his advocacy for nonviolent protests and civil disobedience in the face of injustice. Not only did he condone nonviolence in the face of police brutality, but he also worked to bring justice to black Americans every day until his assassination in Tennessee. For his dedication to justice he is a house hold name around the world today and at 35, he was the youngest man to receive a Nobel Peace Prize.

In order of their usage King draws on anaphora when saying “One hundred years later…,” “Now is the time…,” “We must…,” “We can never (cannot) be satisfied…,” “Go back to…,” “I Have a Dream…,” “With this faith, …,” and “Let freedom ring (from) …” (King). Even without the rest of the speech the phrases that King continuously use tell his tale. One hundred years after African-Americans were supposed to be made free and equal they are still oppressed.
