Knowing that I am already accepted into the medical school at UIC would give me a great sense of security that would take away some of the stress as I prepare for graduate school. I write this letter on behalf of Levi Johnson in support of his desire to pursue the profession of a Physician Assistant. I have spent one on one time with this United States Army Veteran serving war time and peacetime unselfishly. I too am a U.S. Navy Veteran starting my career in the year of 1986 as a Hospital Corpsman for twelve years. In 1995 I achieved my degree as a Physician Assistant followed by a Direct Commission to the rank of Officer serving ten more years.
I would have the opportunity, not only to shape my own education, but to have the chance to improve the medical school system. It also allows for modernization in teaching methods, such as simulation-based training. I already tend to use hands-on and visual learning methods in studying and so this would help me immensely in succeeding while enjoying the material being taught. We did a lot of simulation-based learning in my EMR class and it was my favorite part of the course. I was also attracted by the WMed approach to teaching through teamwork.
Every day, multitudes of things are competing for our attention. Billboards line every street, commercials interrupt every enticing program, and our phones are constantly beckoning us to check them. And no, this is not the beginning of another trite piece of literature that is going to complain about how the growth of advertising and technological innovation is the decline of the human race. In fact, I embrace it. The world is changing, and with so much to be involved in, competition for our attention is healthy and necessary to keep things that we want to see accessible.
The dream of going to college has been present since I remember. However, I lived in a low income household in Spain, and at that time my family was going through a great depression, lack of financial stability, and my parent’s relationship was not at its best; consequently, the idea of having another expense was not a priority for the family, needless to say that college was not an option. Nevertheless, life has given me the opportunity to review my priorities, make new choices and as a result, I decided to pursue a higher education. I became a displaced homemaker after my divorce in 2008 in Washington State, when I decided to move away and start a new life in Colorado. We were only us, my daughter and me.
As I volunteered at medical centers and learned about the professions of doctors, I will continue to pursue these interests by partaking in clubs such as the American Medical Student Association to learn more about the medical field as a career and the BioMedical Science Club to understand more about biological sciences and medicine. Furthermore, as I am currently taking a class on biomedical ethics, I desire to participate in the Bioethics Forum to discuss ethical issues facing in the medical world. Additionally, As I have partaken in Red Cross in which has allowed me to bring awareness to different diseases, I will be able to continue this activity in Heart to Heart to raise alertness to the risks of high blood pressure and Emergency Health Education to instruct emergency procedures regarding to health since I am First Aid, CPR, and AED certified. In the Tandon School of Engineering, I will major in the Science and Technology Studies program and understand more about the relations between science and
The specialized high school admissions test (SHSAT) has been surrounded by a controversy regarding the admissions process. Many people believe that the process discriminates towards lower class students and should include other things such as the G.P.A, add essays, and more. It is better to keep the process as it is. It is not discriminatory towards lower class students because there are free preparation programs provided in school for the SHSAT.
Ever since grade school, I was passionate about working in the field of medicine, and science. I enjoyed anatomy, medical spelling and terminology, and reading about the healthcare industry. I would like my future job to be in the medical field; I cannot picture myself doing anything else. Lastly, I have previous medical experience from being in the sports medicine class and on the sports medicine team at my high school.
During my personal time I often find myself reading, watching TV or simply trying something new most of the time I am Keeping up with the Kardashians or reading about a Vampire but other times I am reading Hillary Clinton’s biography or watching the Republican debate on YouTube. Unlike most young adults my age, I focus the majority of my time on political debates and new technology. Although I enjoy keeping up with my fictional novels about vampires, werewolves, and fairies or the American royal family, the Kardashians, I would much rather be gaining information on the future American President. Most people will vote for their party, the next group will vote for Clinton, either because she is a female or a familiar name to Americans, or
I am currently an undergraduate at Rowan College at Gloucester County completing my pre-nursing studies. As I was growing up, I always enjoyed the idea of helping and healing others. My inspiration to become a nurse was watching my mother make a difference in the lives of elderly at a local senior living community as an Activities Assistant for years. Even though, she was unable to go back to school due to personal circumstances, the compassion she showed towards others around her was something special as she took care of them as if they were relatives. Whenever I had free time, I would just sit and play a game with the elderly residents hearing their life stories from when they were young.
Since I will be applying to medical schools in a few years, I hope that this program allows me to receive more insight towards what to expect in these upcoming years. I hope to gain a better understanding of how to represent myself as a strong candidate for medical school, how to prepare for the MCAT, learn what medical school will be like, and be exposed to all the different healthcare professions that are available. This program is a wonderful opportunity to help me prepare for my future and build connections with people who are already health care professionals and can give me advice on how to be ready for what is to come. The journey to becoming involved in the medical field can be very difficult, especially when your ethnic background
We must acknowledge that there will be times where we lose our position, only to realize where we stand. Growing up life seemed hard, but now I realized how amazing it was; I had a family who loved me and I was never seen different (discriminated), I was always told I had four very impart jobs: have respect for people even if I didn’t like them, do good in school, always ask questions and never forget where I came from, little did I know I realized where I came from after I left. When I came to the United States of America, New York became a dream, but we must all wake up and stop dreaming; I did after my mother past away a year after I’ve arrived. The world became gray, for I was very downhearted and life felt like death because of all the
